Subject: Someone Who Is Familiar With www.allmusic.com...

Well, more familiar with it than me, anyway.  What do the red checkmarks mean next to some song titles?  I've always guessed that those were the songs that were released as singles?  Any answers would be appreciated.  Thanks

I generally believe that those are the star picks from any one album. It must also have to do with the singles from the album.

Glad you didn't pick anything out from its new interface... but here's my theory.

On Pet Sounds the general opinion is that the standout tracks are the four checked ones.

Taking a better example, on Keepin' The Summer Alive.

Singles released from this album in America were:

A: Goin' On
B: Endless Harmony (reached #83 peaking 4/19/80)

and:

A: Livin' With A Heartache
B: Santa Ana Winds (released 5/20/80, failed to chart)

Draw your own conclusions...

it's supposed to be the site's picks for best songs, but 99% of the time, it's just singles.  you do occationally run into a song that is a "pick" but wasn't a single.

I could prove you wrong, enter in "Drops of Jupiter" by train, and, to my knowlege, not one of the released songs are checked.  The released songs of course being, "Drops of Jupiter," "Something more," and "Shes on fire."
