Subject: Tunes that make you laugh out loud

Written By: BooBerryMuffin76 on 09/30/03 at 02:22 p.m.

Here's my list:
                  1) The Who's "Boris the Spider". I think this one will rank near the top of my list. I was listening to it at work and I was so close to embarassing myself for laughing my head off. I mean the song is totally ridiculous with those lyrics and a very deep voice repeating, "Boris the Spider". And let me not forget: creepy crawly, creepy crawly

2) "Magic Bus" is pretty funny too. (in a wonky voice) "I wanit, I wanit, I wanit..."

3) "A$shole" (by ?) "You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to get into my 1966 Cadillac, hot pink with whale skins on the back and cow leather interior, and I'm going to suck up some Big Macs from McDonald's in those old styrofoam containers..."

4) "One More Minute" (Weird Al) "I'd rather..."

There's more, but I can't think of them now.

There was a thread on this a couple weeks ago.  I just copied and pasted the list from that thread to this one:

The Shoop, Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)--Cher
Kiss You All Over--Exile
Super Freak--Rick James
Runaround Sue--Dion
Hello--Lionel Richie
Mother--The Police (Well... just, because)
Jenny From the Block--Jennifer Lopez (Well... it's fake)
I'm Real--Jennifer Lopez (Well... the title says it all... it's so fake you would think J.Lo was TRYING to be funny)
Back at One--Brian McKnight (Because it's so blastin' STUPID)
I Will Always Love You--Whitney Houston
Shake It Up--The Cars
Come Sail Away--Styx
I Get Around--The Beach Boys
Summer of '69--Bryan Adams (It just... does)
As Long As You Love Me--Backstreet Boys (Because I used to love this song)
Quit Playing Games With My Heart--Backstreet Boys (^ Ditto)
Addicted To Love--Robert Palmer
Mr. Roboto--Styx
Maggie May--Rod Stewart
Bennie and the Jets--Elton John
Renegade--Styx

There are several reasons these strike me as funny, where other people might go "huh?".

Depends if the song is intentionally meant to be funny or not...sometimes intentional comedy on record can fall flat on its backside...

But an intentionally funny one that'll always bring a smile to my face is Spike Jones' 'I Went To Your Wedding'...marvellous...!

Wow! My grandad had a Spike Jones Album and would always play that song (that's the one where Spike plays drunk). He was quite a pioneer for his time, creating musical chaos with his band. 'Three little fishes (Itty Bitty Boo)' was wonderful as well.

A song that makes me laugh? 'Ride a wild horse' by Dee Clark gives me the unintentional chuckles.

1.Makin' Whoopee-this song has cracked me up for years.

2."Turn off the lights" by Teddy Pendergrass. There's this part of the song where TP yells TURN 'EM OFF!!! it sound like he's tryin to scare a chick into makin' sweet love to him.

3. "Shoot em up Movies" this is a song from an 80's R&B group(I forgot the name) the chorus goes: " Oh I met my baby at the, bang, bang, got-CHA, shoot em up movies yeeeeah..."HILARIOUS!

4. The opening sentence to the "Christmas Song" the Nat King Cole version gets me everytime. "Chest NUTS, roasting...."

5. "Push th' little daises" by Ween

6. "The Star Spangled Banner". I will respect anyone who can pull this song off(Whitney Houston, N'Sync) and I will laugh very loudly at anyone who can't(Rosanne Barr). I got deathly stares at a boxing match once for crackin up during the national anthem.

Birdhouse In Your Soul is a song written about a night light, so it does mean something.  That doesn't make it any less silly though.  They talked about this song in their documentary "Gigantic" which is supposed to be released on DVD sometime soon.

Nothing to be sorry about, with They Might Be Giants it's easy to think their songs are just silly fluff (and some of them probably are).

One of their songs that really makes me laugh (probably because if I didn't laugh, I would cry...) is called Older "you're older than you ever were and now you're even older, and now you're even older and now you're even older..."
