Subject: Good movies nobody's heard about

A while back I found a "hidden" section at one of my local video rental stores (before you ask the porn was at the other side of the store). They had an enourmous selection of old (and new) movies that many people havn't heard about. Can anybody recommend me a decent "unknown" movie?

Yes. A film called 'Proof' with Hugo Weaving (Priscilla queen of the desert), Geneive Picot and Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

It is about a blind man that photographs everything he comes into contact with because he can not seem to trust his home-help (Picot). Russell plays the man that describes his photos.

This sounds like a really awful movie but it is great. I recommend it.

Creator with Peter O'Toole. An excellent feel-good movie. It also has Mariel Hemmingway, Virgina Madson, and David Ogden Stiers.

The War (1994)---has Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood in it. I
would consider it a family movie because
there's not much $ex, drugs, swearing,
even the violence is relatively tame, and it
might be considered corny. But it's a movie
about morals, racism, and if you're looking
for some "chicken soup for the soul", this is
an ideal flick. The setting takes place in
the deep south during the summer of 1970
(right around the Vietnam War era), and
Costner comes back from the war, and him
and his family find themselves in a different
                        social class.

Some of the foreign films are wonderful.  "Babette's Feast" is a favourite of mine.  I also love Pedro Almodovar's films but they may be a bit too old for you (you're a teen aren't you Fred?)  A lot of English films are good too - "Waking Ned Divine" and "Little Voice" are 2 that come to mind.

War of the Buttons was a really good Irish film sort of along the lines of The War (which I really liked too).  But it really depends on what kind of movie you like, so you should look these up on the Net before you rent them.

There's a great Irish movie called the Secret Of Roan Inish.  Have you seen Bend It Like Beckham?  I thought it was great.

An Everlasting Piece is a great Irish comedy about two men living in Northern Ireland. One is a Protestant and the other a Catholic. They start out as barbers at a prison, and quickly learn that the man who used to have the monopoly on hairpieces in Northern Ireland is in jail there, after having gone nuts and scalped a number of people. I'd rather not give away the rest of the movie, but it is extremely enjoyable, and has great humor. If you're not used to hearing people from Ireland speak, it may be a little difficult to understand. I recommend this movie if you enjoyed "Saving Grace" and "Waking Ned Divine."

Yeah, at first I thought it was a piece of crap. But then when I got farther into it I thought it was pretty good.
