Subject: Need some help/advice

Written By: CatwomanofV on 12/19/03 at 05:27 p.m.

I have been digging out my Christmas decorations (that I haven't used/seen in 5 years) and I came across some decorations that I bought in Isreal made out of olive wood. Unfortunately, there is mold on them. I did just spray it with Lysol mold killer-don't know if that would work or not. Does anyone know how to clean the mold without killing the wood too much? I appreciate any advice anyone can give me. Thanks.

I'm not sure if Lysol would help or not.  Has the color of the wood changed after you removed the mold?  My dad is a woodworker and I know he's told me to use a healthy coat of walnut oil on my cuttingboards to keep them in good condition.  Perhaps the same would work on your ornaments.  At any rate, I hope you're able to clean them up!  :)

Thanks for your input. Believe it or not, I think the Lysol is working. I don't notice that greenish color as much since I sprayed them. I'm going to give them another dose today. Once I am sure that the mold is gone-I will try to find some walnut oil on them to coat them. From now on, they are going in the hall closet instead of the basement.
