Subject: Singers with terrible vocals

Written By: catluver on 02/05/04 at 06:51 p.m.

There are those American Idol contestants, but that one's obvious. There are some others such as:

-the lead singer from AC/DC---I just don't know why this is known to be such a great band because he sounds so raspy and screechy. I like the beat to "Thunder Struck" but once the singing starts, it feels like I'm listening to Animal from the Muppet Show

-in many of Brittany Spears songs, I find that her voice is too syrupy and girly so she comes across as plastic

-Nelly Fertado. Her voice sounds so nasal that she almost sounds like Fran Drescher or Janis from "Friends".

Neil Young
Leonard Cohen (who one year won the Juno for best Canadian vocalist)

I perfer to think of these guys as 'song stylists'

That'd be Brian Johnson, a refugee from the rockers 'Geordie' who joined the band after Bon Scott's death in 1980...

Myself - I much prefer Bon's vocals, but as the band appear to be as popular (if not more so) than ever, it's all a matter of opinion...

I'd have to say Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics. He sounds like Rod Stewart, who also has a terrible voice.

I agree 100%, I can not stand to listen to him for more than about 5 seconds.  I almost sounds as if someone is grabbing his nuts everytime he sings.

Oh my goodness,  I can't figure how Bob Dylan even became famous in the first place!  If anyone thinks he really "sings" then something is wrong.

You people do not understand the difference between singing with technique and singing from your SOUL, man.  Bob Dylan is one of my favorite vocalists.  Mariah Carey is one of my least.  Bob Dylan may not be able to "sing," per se, but he knows how a certain song is supposed to be sung.

Oh, I love Justin Hawkins's voice. He's one of few things around these days that one can describe as "wacky".
*sings* I believe in thing called luuuuuuuuuurve, aaaa-aa-aaaaaaaaaaah!!!

Nick Cave (though I still like his music)
Marianne Faithfull (ex. Broken English)
Nico (still like her sound though)
John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten)
Biz Marke
Yoko Ono (should be a law against her "singing")

Heh! Not really a singer with a 'unintentionally' bad voice, but...

An honourable mention must go to Elva Miller, who recorded as Mrs Miller in the 60's...absolutely tone-deaf! Her take on 'Downtown' has to be heard to be believed! Go on! You know you want to...!

Makes Yoko sound like an angel, and also has the ability to scare wildlife...so be careful!

And you can take ANY SONG IN THE WORLD....it can even be a sad song....and turn it into a comedy.  How?  Sing it a la Bob Dylan.   ;D
Actually my personal favorite would have to be "Get Low."   Can you just imagine Dylan *singing*: "to the windowwwww...to the wall....."    :D  LOL!

Cher was good- I particularly liked "Walking in Memphis". Her later stuff was terrible though- "Believe" wasn't great, it was grating.
I think Justin Timberlake can't sing. I've never actually HEARD a geriatric goat in labour... but I think that's pretty close to what he sounds like.
