Subject: Comic book stores and Arcades.. a dying breed?

Written By: Child_of_the_80s on 02/15/04 at 07:10 a.m.

The comic book stores are dropping alot here in Philly area.I remember there was usually one at every mall but its rare now.I can only think of 3 in the area.I think in the next ten years comic books will become obselete. They will be put on DVD and be animated.

Arcades are dying here too I was just at the shopping center saying I wish the arcade was here its the best way to kill time but its a hair salon now.And then theres the mall I used to go to when I was growing up had the best arcade ever at one time they had two of them! But they are gone now.Theres nothing like being competitive with others at the arcade to see whos best and the honr of putting your name up on the high score list. Now I go to the malls and the have those crappy Time Out arcades which are smaller than phone booths ::)I guess with the popularity of Playstation,GameBox etc. is taken over....unfortunately :'(

Actually, in the area where I live, there has been a resurgence of these.  In the past few years, there have been 2 new comic book stores open that I know of & a new arcade.  I certainly hope, despite the advances in technology, that they don't "go away" as my kids love reading comics and going to places with videogames.  It's one of their "special treats" that they get when they've been good. :)

I don't think arcade games can survive on their own (with home video games and all) but arcades are sucessful where they are not the only thing bringing in money. For example, the arcade games at my city's movie theatres are doing very well.

As for comic book stores, I have to admit I've never seen one before.  :-/

comic books are now done more by mail-order it seems...

arcades though (i think) are gaining more popularity though because of DDR...it's just as fun to watch a bunch of guys play DDR as it is to actually try the game yourself. :)

My local mall still has a comic book store & an arcade.

Though I don't neccessarily care for them. No offense.
