I'll take this one Stinger, if you don't mind...
Among people working on virtual reality and cyberspace interfaces, an avatar is an icon or representation of a user in a shared virtual reality.
In simplest terms, the picture you have chosen to represent "you" in these forums. :)

Plymouth is not that great. It pillages from it's own heritage in such a sad way. An example is there is a place not too far away called Tintagel where King Arthur was supposed to live - What do they do? Ship in a load of plastic swords and sell them to a gormless public. There's commercialism and then there's taking the mickey. It's a bloody shame, Howard.
The city blames it's misfortunes on the fact that a lot of it was bombed during World War 2. :-/

Well, can't say for Maxwell, Bobby - but most of the useless info' I've accrued over the years (mostly of a music vein) comes from The Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles (The Bible!), Billboard Top Chart Hits (US version of above - commonly known as a 'Whitburn'), a monthly dose of Record Collector magazine (mainly for articles), and the occasional dip into http://www.allmusic.com/ for any kind of artist overview...
But then, being the beauty of the board, there's always some titbit that someone can drag up seemingly from nowhere!
Living in Plymouth, eh? (Anywhere near Sin?!!) Haven't been there in years! Will be travelling that way sometime this August en route to Cornwall - I'm desperate for ideas for the garden, so a visit to the Eden Project near St. Austell's a must!

Hiya Izod!
Sorry for my late reply...I haven't viewed this thread in a couple of days!
Now for the question of how many mugs I've made. Well, most of the mugs I've made I've either sold or given away to family members. I have about a dozen that I keep in rotation for myself for that ever-important morning cup of coffee. And I have another handful just sitting outside in my so-called 'studio'. ;D
I guess to answer your question regarding the number, I'd say maybe close to 50. I really need to get busy and make some more...it's just hard finding the time when you have little ones that need your attention! :D
Subject: Re: Something You've wanted to say/ask another mem
CeramicsFanatic, this may be a crazy question, but you don't learn anything unless you ask. So here goes. When you make your mugs, do you spin them on a potter's wheel? I think it would be neat to use a wheel.

Hi there onaree!
Thanks for the question...and it's not a crazy question at all!
I do in fact make most of my mugs on a potter's wheel...the initial 'body' of the mug anyway (the handle is added later). It is my preferred method of making pots, but I have made a few using the 'slab' technique. Working with clay is lots of fun and very relaxing. You should try! :D

The Guinness Book of hit singles is the bible, Paul UK. I have the most recent one and it's great to have handy.

As for my good lady, Devon girl. She is fine but she is very busy and does a lot of things for work and has duties in the evening involving Girl's Brigade and stuff. We are getting engaged soon so I've got to find the money for a ring. I'll try to persuade her to come on - She isn't quite as nostalgic as I am and the computer does her head in.
As for her young son, he is 12 actually so if I gave you the impression he was a baby I am sorry. He's doing fine as well but he's entering the 'terrible teens'. Thinking about girls and how much his armpit hair is growing and the like. I wish I was 12 again, Paul. ;D

Nah - I brought him back to Australia and discovered he thought wife bashing and the Dole were permenant career options. So I had him deported.
I found with Plymouth - for a big city - it had a very country town attitude - didnt like outsiders - didnt like its own if they had travelled overseas and returned home with new opinions etc.
I also didnt like the career options for 14 year old girls - as it seemed to be limited to 'get preg by 15, have baby, get free stuff from gov for rest of life'. And I know that isnt limited to Plymouth - but thats where I encountered it it enormous volumes.
I lived in Southway for a bit - worked in a couple of pubs there. The Southway Inn ? I think it changed name after I left to something about monks. And the Kings something ! I liked the scene with the parody of "Rambo" when "George", "Weird Al"'s character...I barely remember..., freed Michael Richards' character and started blowing up stuff and the TV programs on UHF that are 100% times better than "Stay Tuned" and the stuff that's out now. TV execs should take note & Nickelodeon should bring back "The Weird Al Show" on reruns or actually bring back the show.

I find it very comforting that Hairspray reads every post. It's nice to know someone's watching over the boards. I can't imagine that kind of diligence, but I appreciate it!
I'd like to add that I felt really welcomed to the site when Hairspray greeted me and apologized for the mean person who posted a kind of ominous warning in response to my hello message. (I can't remember the poster or what he/she said -- but Hairspray deleted it, which also made me feel better). So, thanks, Hairspray! And thanks to the other members who said hello.
