to be a Radio Deejay? I've been told I have the voice for broadcasting, and I thought I might want to pursue this.
Well what kind of education do you need?

You sorta want a canadian to answer this but...

Degree in Broadcasting Communication (BBc)
Arts Degree in Mass Communication (BAmc)

are the main ones, but I'm sure theres heaps of qualifications to go for

Here in the States (not sure about Canada) there are schools you can go to specifically for broadcasting.  Otherwise, pretty much any mass-media/communications degree would cover it.  It really depends on if you want to be on the air or behind the scenes.  I have a friend who does an on-the-air program who simply has a Bachelor's degree in communications.  Heck, to be on the air, I don't even think you really need a degree.  You might start off as a sidekick, but that can lead to bigger and better things.  Good luck!!!

Wow! Thats what I plan on going for!

I have been told to go for a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in radio braodcasting/communications.

What I'd like to do is go to a broadcasting school but when I think about it, I'd be better of just getting the B.A so I can keep my career options open.

Hope that helps!

Rio

I'm not sure about what it takes to get into broadcasting.  However...

I have heard that radio stations pay their employees crap and pretty much treat them like dirt.  Fire people on a whim and so on.

You may want to talk to a local radio personality to get more of a scoop on the industry.  I bet he or she would be happy to spend a little time with you to let you see how it is.

While most of what you said is true, DJs are also hired to another station almost as soon as they are fired.I used to have an internship at a radio station on Cape Cod and the DJs all said getting fired is almost like an initiation into the broadcasting world.

Any radio stations I have been to, they are all treated like they are some kind of family. I think getting treated like crap is more of a rumor. Of course, there are the peons but that is just about every profession.

It is true that DJs get paid very very little but DJs don't get into it for the money, they do it really for the music. And besides, there are so many branches to DJing on air that making ends meet is easier than one might think. You can DJ in clubs, parties, weddings, etc.

This is the type of career that you get into because its fun and its what you live for and love to do. I remember at my internship that the DJs were always laughing, joking, and just generally having a good time at work.

I can't think of a better dream job, no matter how much it does or doesn't pay. There is always a way to make it work.

I hope this is helping Fred. :)
