Subject: The most insensitive person...

has to be the dentist + his hygienists.  I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and I'm scared more than ever!  Last time I went...it was HELL!!!
Ok for those of you who ever had to wear braces you know how you have to use a floss threader and put in between the wires of your braces.  Well then when your braces are off and you have a permanent retainer and where does the floss threader go? Between the actual TEETH!  And what if your teeth are still too close together for the width of the floss threader to fit?  Well, TOO BAD!, says the dentist.  He just doesn't get it! It's like he's raping my gums!

I'M GONNA DIE!!!!!!!!!!    :-X

Had simalar type of dentist when I had braces as a kid.

This guy had Robin Williams type of "super hairy arms" and would seemingly bury his hairy ape limbs in my mouth  :P to tighten my braces & change bands once a month. Flossing and cutting my gums to shreds in the process.
Of course, while I'm in pain, he's disscusing/complaining about his divorce/ex-wife to his assistants (whom are the reason he is getting a divorce, if you know what I mean) as if I'm wasn't even there.
He then continues to complain about the high cost of his car payments for his BMW & boat, that with his high fees, my parents pay, and I suffer for!

Best thing to do is to bring a walkman, turn up the tunes and tune the dentist and pain out. Braces don't last forever. If that fails, time to find another dentist!

Get a Sonicare brush.  I got one for Christmas 2002 and when I went to the dentist, the hygienist (who has the personality of a shoe) said "Oh, it looks like you've been flossing better" ::)  I didn't bother to tell her that I don't floss, I just use the Sonicare.  My teeth (even after braces) are crooked on the bottom and floss ALWAYS shreds when I try to use it.

Gee, I sound like an infomercial :P

ORIN
When I was younger, just a bad little kid
My mama noticed funny things I did
Like shooting puppies with a B.B. gun
I'd poison guppies and when I was done
I'd find a pussycat and bash in its head
That's when my mama said

CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON
What did she say?

ORIN
She said, "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way to make your natural tendencies pay

You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causing things pain
Son, be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane
Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Son, be a dentist
You'll be a success

CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON
Here he is, folks the leader of the plaque!
Watch him suck up that gas!
Oh, my god!
He's a dentist and he'll never ever be any good
Who wants their teeth done by the Marquis de Sade?
Oh that hurts!
I'm not numb!

ORIN
Oh, shut up.  Open wide.  here I come!
I am your dentist

CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON
Goodness gracious!

ORIN
And I enjoy the career that I picked
I am your dentist

CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON
Fitting braces

ORIN
And I get off on the pain I inflict
When I start extracting those molars
You girls will be screaming like holy rollers

CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON
Dentist!

ORIN
And though it may cause my patients distress
Somewhere in heaven above me, I know that my mama's proud of me
'Cause I'm a dentist- and a success
Say ah! Now spit.

LOL Cat...how true.

I'm going to the dentist in about an hour. I have a tooth that needs capped, and frankly I can't wait because it has caused me mucho pain the last couple of weeks and I can't chew anything on that side. My dentist is really good, not very gentle but he numbs me really good and I don't feel anything, until I get home and the stuff wears off...

My dentist has a very unique name too...Dr. Balloon!!!

Mine started moving shortly after the orthodontist told me I could stop using my retainers and "completed" my treatment.  Then, they moved more when I was pregnant with all my kids. ::)

I think mine started moving about a year or two after I finished wearing my retainer.  My brother also wore braces and his teeth were so stubborn that they actually broke the retainer!  :o

Well, I survived.  The actual "dentist" wasn't there, so I only had to see the hygienist who actually has a brain!  She was equally frustated as I whilst trying to floss between the retainer...and she KNEW the thing wouldn't go through because....oh yeah! THAT'S where I keep my GUMS!

Had braces on for 2 and half years and wore a retainer for I don't know how long. Yes, my teeth have moved some. Not too bad but I noticed it. I also had three widsom teeth out-Knocked me completely out. I ended up with dry socket. Talk about painful. They pack it with this yucky tasting stuff. Everything I ate tasted like it. When if finally started wearing off and I could really start to taste food again, they packed it again and I went through the whole ordeal again. But, they did give me some really good drugs.  ;D Flying higher then a kite that I didn't care about the pain.

Now-going in for a cleaning is torture. I have extremely senitive teeth plus a TMJ problem. I don't know what is worse when they are done-my jaw or my teeth. I think I have put claw marks on the arm of their chair.

I remember in grade school when they would discuss oral hygene. They used to give out these little red pills that you chewed. The red would show where you missed when you brushed. The problem was, that red dye would get EVERYWHERE! Not just on your teeth and gums but on your tongue, your lips, your face, your toothbrush, the sink, your fingers. I hated those things with a passion.

Ick! I hated those too!

Favorite fluoride, Howard?  Well, it's not exactly a "favorite," but the dentist has made me start using this "Tandem" fluoride stuff every night. (Like I remember or feel like it!)  I have to mix this stannous fluoride with warm water and rinse with half of it for a minute, and then the other half for another minute.

OMG, I had braces when I was younger.

I got them when I was 13, right after school pictures.

I got them on, and a week later, I got out a screw driver, and managed to get the damned things off.  They had to put them back in when I turned 15, and the exact same thing happend; I pried the suckers out.

I was free from braces, despite the fact of having a major over bite and totally screwed up looking teeth, until about a month ago.  I don't think I am gonna pry them out this time.  I think they really have a cause this time.  Plus they have a "stronger glue so you can't 'try' anything again".

I also had braces.  However, I had a reaction to the cement they used on the brackets.  You know the pics they show you if you don't brush your teeth?  When they took mine off, mine were exactly the opposite as the cement had actually eaten away at the enamel.  Not exactly a pretty site, which is why my teeth are now all veneered. ::)

I never did have to deal with name calling.  I guess braces are so common that everyone assumes it's just normal.  I am ultimately glad that I did endure braces.  I just can't imagine having crooked teeth!

Me too. Now, if someone says that I have a nice smile I said, "It should, it cost enough."  ;)

*Whew!* Glad I never had head gear.  Was that something you had to wear all the time, or just when you sleep?

I had to wear it all the time (except when eating or brushing my teeth) for a few month, then only 8 hours a day, then finally, only at night.  Not only was it a style statement, the drool running down your face cuz you couldn't close your mouth all the way (or the slurping sound you made when trying to keep the drool from dripping) was ultra-cool too :P
