Subject: What are your pets' names?

Written By: Rio_Rhodes on 03/29/04 at 06:28 p.m.

I don't know if anyones ever done this topic before but I always love to see what people have named their furry (or scaly, or feathered) friends.

For me, I've had:

A hamster named Sam
A cat named Salty
A cat named Pepper
A dog named Imy (I-me)
2 parakeets- Tweety and Beeper
A dog named Connor
A cat named Cameron
Another cat named Misty
Another cat named Onyx
And now there is Piggie and Minnie, both cats, my babies.

Those are all the animals I've ever had, past and present. And thats not counting all of the kittens I've raised in the past!

Of course I had Chloe the cat for awhile but I couldn't keep her in my apartment.  :'(

Now in the apartment there is Sasha, my roommate's cat.

So, what kind of names do you give your pets?

This can be for pets you have now or pets you've had in the past.

Twinkle, my one-eyed hamster. I was five years old when I got him.

Taffy, my grandfather's dog who I inherited when my grandfather died. I got her when I was eleven years old.

Right now I have a chocolate lab named Blue. He's a total pain in the butt (just ask Rice Cube ;D). I also have two parakeets, Othello and Squeaker, and my sister has a black bear hamster named Midnight.

I've had some other pets over the years, but I don't have all night to list them all. ::)

I had:

Cat named Buffy
Cat named Angie
Cat named Stryper
Hamster names Mr. Whiskers (who met a horrible death.  My five year old flushed him...really.)
Now we have a kitty named Ginger.  He's a boy, but the short one had to name him Ginger.

We currently have a dog (chihuahua) named Chloe.  :)

We had a dog named Dusty (poodle), but she died in 1993 at age 16. My parents had gotten her 3 years before I was born.

Well, let's see.

My first cat was named Frisky
2. was Frisky the Second (cat)(I know, original)
3. Midnite  ( I won't list all of her kittens because none of them ever lived over four weeks old)
4. Snowball (cat)
5. Ace (cat)
6. Spuds (cat)
7. Max (cat)
8. Bandit (cat)
9. Stinker (cat)
10. Baby (cat)
11. Rose (cat)
12. Jack (cat)
13. Petey (cat)
13. Alex (cat)
14. Gracie Lou (cat named for "Miss Congeniality")
15. Mercy May (cat)
16.  Bailey Jack (dog)

Out of all of these, the last three are the ones we currently have.  Gracie and Mercy are house cats.  This is my first time ever having house cats.  I wouldn't take anything in the world for my little girls.  The others, I'm sure, have gone on to kitty heaven.   :'(

As a child I had a tortoise called Fred and a hamster called Fluffy.  We wanted to call the hamster Hammy after a character on tv (tales from the riverbank if memory serves) but the shop only had females at the time so we changed it to Fluffy.

More recently we had a ginger cat called Roger (after Ginger Rodgers, very nearly chose Baker instead).  He was an abandonned kitten who literally walked in off the street.  Sadly a car got him.  :'(

Next we had a black cat called Captain (after Captain Black, the baddy on Captain Scarlet).  He was with us less than a year before he was hit by a car.  :'(

Decided after that it wasn't worth the heartache.  We've since moved house but now live on an even busier road.

My husband had a golden lab called Lady for many years although she stayed with his parents when he moved here.  We would love to have a dog but don't feel it is fair because we both work full time.

No doubt the children will try and persuade us to get a rabbit or something similar eventually

I have an American Eskimo dog named Missy.  She was originally my neice's dog.  We were asked to watch her for a "few weeks" when my brother in law's family moved.  Well, that was in 1995!  By the time my brother in law found someone else to take Missy, we couldn't imagine giving her up.

As a child, I had a mixed breed dog named Tippy.  She lived to be 16, pretty old for a dog.

Whooo - this could take all night, plus tax the brain cells...

I currently have a pit bull named Dudley and three cats, two female and one male named Cecily, Clay and Flookey.

Had two dogs in the past, a Rottweiler: Johan Ludgwig Jacob (Jagli) and a pit bull: Oliver.

Had tons of guinea pigs (used to raise them) but the only one we had long term was named Gaverigan.

As for cats, have had dozens over the years as everyone gives me strays (18 at one time once):

Marrakech, Grendle, Veronica (Freni), Marguerite (Mama), Ursula, Jasper, Etoile, Diablo, Emmeretta (Poppy), Tasha, Josephine (Josie), Juniata (Juni), Blair, Emelita (Emmy), Eppley, Meriadoc (Merry), Iago (Yachi), Chester, Valentine, Candida, Sebastian (Bashi), Jacky, Winnefred, Mehitabel (Hittie-Kitty), Rosina, Viola (Ollie), Claire, Choo Choo, Constance.... I think that is all of them.

My current Cecily was the daughter of Marguerite and sister to Jasper, Ursula and Etoile. Clay was the daughter of Ollie and sister of Claire.

ok, long post.

As a kid we had A LOT of cats, one time about 24  at once.  :o  Pick any name and we had a cat by that name.  We did have two dogs (the only dogs I ever had in my life) Pseudolus and Hysterium (from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) I also had gerbils as a kid, too. I had two fat ones and went for a visit and asked my sister to feed them. When I came back, they were very skinny. I was finally told that a cat got one and the other disappeared. (They couldn't fool me) He finally came out of his hiding place so I had one fat one and two skinny ones.

As an adult, we had Rocky who died very young. Then we got Snowball but we never called him that, we just called him "The White One" who had two different color eyes and was deaf.

Then we had my very special four-Bear, Swatcha, Sheena, and Brandy. They travelled across country with me (yes, on a plane). I got Swatcha as an adult cat but I had him for 9 years. He was the last one to join our family and the first one to go.  :'(

Then there was Bear. An extremely special kitty. People who didn't like cats, liked Bear. I had to make the hardest decision with him when he was 15.  :'(  I have his whisker hanging on the wall-on a card.

Sheena was my little princess. If you ever see the play Cats, look at the character of Grisabella-that is Sheena to the max. Towards the end, she went senile. I lost her at the age of 17.  :'(

For those of you who have been on the board for awhile have heard me talk about Brandy. She had a lot of health problems in the last few years. I thought about making the same decision with her (and with Sheena) as I did with Bear but I didn't have to. I just lost her last Sept. at the age of 18.  :'(

Now, I have the "next generation"

Electra (who's nickname is "Squeaky" because she doesn't meow, she squeaks.) we got from the Humane Society when we lost Sheena. She is now 3.

Andy (whose name is really Andromena but couldn't see on calling him that. When asked how he got that name, we were told, "Because he looks like a galaxy"  ???) was only supposed to be here temperarly. He was my husband's daughter's cat that her ex ended up with. He could no long keep him (or want him) and asked her if she wanted him. She said yes but she couldn't come to get him and asked if we could "catsit". Well, that was 2 years ago. So, I think he is ours (and besides, we won't give him up.  ;D)  He is about 11. When we first got him, he did not get along with Brandy. Talk about catfights-fur flying, etc. They mellowed out. Didn't care for each other but didn't get into fights. Now, Electra and Andy get along great. They play together and seem to like each other. They also just LOVE me.  ;D What more could I ask for?  As much as I love these two, I still miss my very special four very much.

No, I think the most grown cats I had at one time were three, and they were outdoor cats anyways, but when we did have a litter box, that thing was cleaned religiously!!

When we had the kittens, it wasn't a big deal.

Yeah, I have had a lot of cats in my life so far, I know! ;D

Management called animal control on her one day. She got out of the apartment and the wonderful new management we have called and had her taken away. Before I could even get her to a vet for her shots, and get the money to keep her in the apartment. :'(. Those jerks >:(.

The worst part is, since I realized I couldn't realistically keep her, I decided to find her a home, I found one for her and the very next day was the day she dissappeared. Those jerks >:(.

All I can do is hope that animal control saw what a good cat she was and put her in a shelter to find her a home, and not put her down, she doesn't deserve that. :(

I have a bird named Connor.  A Sun Conure...I know so original. Now the name isn't very suiting since after owning the bird for over 7 years, the bird I thought was a male laid an egg.  I should change it.

I have a dog named Nellie.  When I purchased the dog the breeder was already calling her Nellie so I decided to just keep it.

My daughters cockatiel is named Patches, because of the pattern on his wings.

Cat's named Shadow and Tig

I have had many pets over the years...I wouldn't even know where to begin if I started listing all their names.

These were my pets ( in chronological order)

Christmas-An Albino Kitty
He loved for my brother(4 at the time) to spin him around until they were both dizzy. Christmas ended up being given away due to my brother's severe asthma.

Snow-A cream colored mutt
Snow was taken away from my brother and I because unfortunately my family came into hard times and we couldn't afford her. She ended up with a very nice older man who had his own house. The bad thing was when a Hurricane came and flooded NYC, she was tied up in this basement and the old man couldn't reach her in time, she drowned.

Patches-A calico cat
Patches loved to sleep in the dryer. One time I turned the dryer on (No Heat!!) just see what would happen. Much to my amazement, she stayed inside!

Ginger-A Cockerspaniel
Ginger was only with us for about a month. One day we left her alone and she managed to tear up and Sh#$% on almost everything in the house. the next day my mother got rid of her.

Huskie-Black mutt
Husky was a great dog until he attacked me TWICE. He got put down. :-http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/photogalleries/l/blphhamster4.htm
Unfortunately Jerry died July 29th of last year for reasons unknown to me. I still miss him :'(

Since Jerry's death I have had no desire to get another pet. He was the first of my pets to actually die in my presence. I know he was just a little hamster, but he meant the world to me.

Jerry is gorgeous.  How long did you have him?  Rodents really do not live very long, maybe he died of old age.  It is always hard to lose a beloved pet.

Thank you, NBC, Onaree and CeramicsF
I bought Jerry when he was almost a year in 2000, so I guess that makes him three when he died. I think he did die of old age because he was kinda listless. He stopped eating and he certainly didn't do chin ups. I held him in in my hands to comfort him and then he stopped breathing.

At present, we have four very loveable and demanding Guinea Pigs. They are:

- Morty (4 years old this month)
- Mocha (3 years old)
- Napoleon (3 years old)
- Truffles (7 months old)

Two other piggies have come and gone in the herd:

- Latté, who passed suddenly while we were out, one day before our first wedding anniversary, June 11, 2002. He was named because he looked exactly like Mocha (same breed, I think) except he was more white than golden brown.

- Pepé Le Peu, who had been ill for about a week, and despite our and the vet's efforts suffered a stroke September 29, 2003 and had to be euthanised. He was black with a big white stripe down his head so he sort of looked like a skunk, hence the name.

As a child, I had a cat called Peaches (not my choice - she was already called that when we got her) who was a Persian Calico. We got her when I was around 8 years old and she lived long enough to move out with me when I left home. She passed in 1996 at the age of 16 1/2 years.

Vile, you name your animals like I like to, based on looks! All of the pets I had that I named were all named for a type of feature they had, whether it was color, sound, whatever...

Except of course for my hamster, but I was 5 when I got him, so it didn't have to be a creative name, just cute!

I live with quite a few animals, not all owned by me.
parakeet--Sweety (blue/white)  Cockatiel--Spotty (she's the gray and yellow type with white spots on her back) She thinks she's the boss ;D
The birds both speak a little
mini rabbit --- c.b. stood for the school C' where he came from and "Bunny".
Cats-- Molly (came with the name)
Jericho "the handsome boy"  Yes, my sister likes WWE   (wrestling) and this cat is at least 15 pounds.(? one big cat)
dogs-- Princess and Terra.
Princess was called that when we found her wandering outside our friends apartment because she wasn't being dog-sat properly. So we took her home and left a message for the owner to come by and talk if she had a problem with us keeping her. They brought over her leash, some food, some dog perfume, a sweater and a food bowl and now she's 9 and we love her more than they would have.
My sister found Terra at a gas station, at night, in the rain 6months old and brought her home as a puppy replacement to help me over my 2 days deceased doggie of 8 years :'(. Terra's a shepherd/chow mix reddish-brown coloring with black tongue spots. Terra is latin for dirt="earth", which i rationalized was more classy than calling her cinnamon, brownie or other such names.
These animals all have at least 8 nicknames also I have never lived without a dog.
other former dog names at my house--
Ginger(Springer Spaniel), Laddie (collie/samoyedmix), Happy(Boston Terrier/chihuahua)and his brother George, **"Baby Face" Nelson (some?terrier), *Shadow (white shep/terrier, looked small shepherd), **Sheba(Shepherd), *Sweetheart (terrier with shepherd length) (parents** and puppies*)& Clyde (pit bull).  There were more but they didnot stay long because they were too active and large for our small backyard.

My present little (? - enormous, more like!) bundle of fluff goes by the moniker of 'Ruby' - don't ask me why, I didn't choose it! That honour goes to my sister's youngest, and it sort-of stuck...

I was going to call her 'Lucretia' (the cat, not my sister's youngest!) - but everyone thought I was mad! Hopefully I'll get a pic up soon...

As an aside, the self-same sister tells me that our grandad used to have two goldfish called 'Bugger' and 'Sod'...pretty unorthodox names, you might think - but allegedly, he had a helluva job getting 'em both out of the bowl to change the water...to the impassioned cry of "C'mere, you little bugger - C'mere you little sod!"

They are the cutest dogs. Be ready for a hyper dog. I hope you don't have small children, they don't like them. They are harder to box train but they are worth it. They do have health issues like Hyperglycemia and glaucoma and they have a soft spot on their heads like babies but as they mature it closes. They do live 15-17 years. If you get one you'll love him. ;D

I'd love you to get me a chihuahua but the new apartment I'm moving into doesn't allow dogs >:( :(. So I just have to be patient.

No kids, just me, so the dog would be my baby!

When you do have a chance to get one, they just love sweaters and doggie boots. ;D My apartment didn't allow pets either until it flooded and I became disgruntled and they allowed me to have a cat. Yes, I did take advantage having three pets, but that's ok. They told me that I was the only tenant that paid their rent on time.

Oh I forgot the cat.  My nephew I believe wins the award for the strangest name for a pet.  He named his cat "8:30", and no I am not kidding he seriously named the cat "8:30".

At the time when he got the cat he was probably about 5 or 6 years old.  He is 11 now.

The name was kind of my fault in a way.  He got the name "8:30" from one of my christmas presents, which was an alarm clock and the box showed the clock with the time "8:30" on it and I jokingly said to him "You should name the cat 8:30" and unexpectedly he did.
