Subject: anyone want to help me make a fake newspaper?

Written By: Ethan Mawyer on 03/31/04 at 10:27 p.m.

I know this seems pretty random but i've been kind of disappointed with the fake news sites lately (especially rash report and becker sports report which have hardly done anything the last couple of months) so i'd like to make my own. But i have no idea how to create a website or run one... but i know a lot of people here do. I'm thinking i write the articles and whoever is helping me puts them online in whatever layout they want. The amount i'd be writing per day depends on my level of responsibility when i start this (hopefully May). Ideally i'd like to do this full time instead of getting an actual job but i don't know if i'll be able to do that. Even if i just have time for an article a day i think it'll be pretty good i've got some ideas to make this stand out from other fake news. Anyone interested?

Ethan, fake news in what sense?  Like the Onion?  Is this comedy?  This might be the wrong area to try and attempt....Im gonna use me favorite reference again, and tell you that for Nonsense Humor Magazine, we just did an issue that was a copmplete newspaper parody.....the issue is probably the best we've ever done (and definitly the best weve done since Ive been there), but it wasnt easy......Id like to hear some of your ideas for fake news.......

but other than that, if I knew how to run a website, then my own website wouldnt be in as crappy shape as it is

it would be more like the onion than anything else i've seen online but not really quite like that either... do you think this might not be a good idea because it's hard or stiff competition or something else?

sure null and void (and anyone else) you can help write once this gets started... but first we need someone with website design abilities and the willingness to take the small gamble on buying a domain name.

both......there are many other news parody sites on the internet, but the problem is, most of those guys are paid writers that were hired because of their great comedy writing ability....do you think you can compete with them?  I mean, I think I can honestly admit that the issue of Nonsense we did was amazing in the fact that it was all around strong on the basis of parody and funniness....the thing is, it was writen by a whole group of people...all of whom have distinct comedy personalities (in fact, one is a writers assistant for SNL, and another an intern(who has been on the show) for Howard Stern), and we had a clear target to parody (Hofstra's school Newspaper 'The Chronicle'), so it was made easier by that and the fact that our audience was familiar with the parodied object.....

we recieved more compliments and had more people saying  "this was the greatest issue youve ever done",  or "This is better than anything Ive ever seen" or "Billy Florio, I want to bear your baby!" than any other issue in the past......

anyway, its hard to come up with material from so little sources, but it will be even harder to get noticed and compete......

plus, then theres libel and slander laws.....parody doesnt protect everything

If it's a bit of a comedy one, I could pretend to be an advice giver or something like that... :D

Hey, I can help

I run a freewebs website. Even though the url is www.freewebs.com/ then you have your actual website name, and you get i think 7 pages, it'll still be worth it. You can pack each page full with junk! I'll help definately. Tell me what you want to call it, I'll save this to faves and read your reply. Even though I'm new and signed up today don't mean I can't help! I'll make one though called 'The Gossip Chain' just for fun to get me started. Mine's gonna be like a magazine - I'll just stop talking now, kay? Im rambling on! Lol I do that
