Lone Star's "Baby I'm Amazed By You"

Never in the history of musicology has there been a song as laden with as many sappy cliches.  This tune HAD to be generated using one of those songwriting computer lyric generators, with the knob turned to "sap".

Classic - Adrian Gurvitz   (Classic, alright - classic garbage that is...)

Key Largo - Bertie Higgins   ("We had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall"….he sings.  But Bertie, Bogie and Bacall had…..talent….)

Lady In Red - Chris De Burgh   (Schmaltz Schmaltz and more Schmaltz…)

Never Ending Story - Limahl   (Self indulgent narcissistic rubbish - luckily the song did end…)

Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk - Dr Hook   (What were they thinking ?…)

Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus   (Those boot-scootin' folks aren't forming a line to dance, they're forming a line to get out the nearest door…)

Some Days Are Diamonds - John Denver  (Now we know why he crashed his plane - he heard the song…)

Just To Be With You - Mr Big   (But I DON'T want to be with them…)

I Know What Boys Like - Waitresses   (If they had really known, they would've shut up…)

I Just Called To Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder   (Couldn't he see the damage this song would do to his career ? - Oops, no, he couldn't, could he…)  :P

Anything and everything by Lionel Richie.
"All I Want Is You" - Bellefire
(For those of you who have been lucky enough not to hear me blah-ing on about how much I totally and utterly love U2, you won't know why I hate this song... Make a guess if you like.)
ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BY AQUA.
(Except for "Dr. Jones", because a mate of mine made up a hilarious parody of it about one of our teachers.)
Anything and everything by Westlife.
(My fascist friend Kelzo loves them because she thinks society expects her to. All their songs sound the same.
There is a definite pattern to making a Westlife song: Shane opens, singing the first verse to a piano ballad. The others join in for the chorus. Brian/Mark sings the second verse with a few more instruments in. They sing the chorus again, then they do a KEY CHANGE(!) and do the chorus again in the new key. Shane finishes off by singing the last line slowly, without any instruments. And there's your Westlife song.)
"Loneliness" - Tomcraft
(What was the point of that song other than to reach No. 1 and murder us all in our sitting rooms through our ears?)
"Lucky" - Brrrrritney Spears
(I forget who it was said this, but it was very profound: "Britney, everyone cries, cries, cries in their lonely heart. Not all of us have $200 notes to dry our tears with.")
"Sing For the Moment" - Eminem
(For those of you who have been lucky enough not to hear me blah-ing on about how much I totally and utterly love Aerosmith, you won't know why I hate this song... Make a guess if you like.)
ALL TECHNO MUSIC.
ALL DANCE MUSIC.
ALL POP STUFF. (Except for Savage Garden, if they count as pop. Oh dear, they probably do. My God, I like a pop act.)
ALL R&B STUFF. (These days, R&B does not mean jazz, which is quite palatable if it's done well. R&B means "pop that's trying to be dance/latin/some other such genre that it plainly isn't.")

PF is great, its just that "Comfortably Numb" is one of those tracks that I've grown to despise.

REM? Well. "Shiny Happy People" is like chewing tin foil for me...can't stand to listen to it. Mr. Stipe himself says it was just a experiment to see if they could write the "perfect" pop song.
Hell, even REM dosen't want to hear it, they won't play this song in concert anymore...its that bad.

Wow. Reading this thread makes me realize I am mellower than I thought. There are a lot of songs I hate, but there are really only three that I HATE (as in grab the singer by the throat and bang his head repeatedly against a brick wall HATE...):

Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka (that squeal he does on the chorus makes me want to get a red hot poker and GIVE him something to squeal about)

Grow Some Funk of Your Own - Elton John (when it became apparent that any talent Elton my have once had was going down the toilet at lightning speed)

Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold (was this pshycho-babble really trying to deomonstrate that any male child who has a youngers sister is scarred for life? - someone take this man out and shoot him....)

Oh, and just for good measure - anything by Elvis.

I feel a whole lot better now! :)

Yeah... nicely captured the mood of christmas by singing about Starving African children, which made you feel really guilty on xmas morning when you woke up to a room full of presents, when those poor african kids got nout. I suppose it is a good number one in the sense that it actually had a purpose though, and it did change people's lives for the best, but why did they release it around christmas? It made me feel really greedy and bad around christmas - it's a depressing song, but it does remind you of christmas every time it comes on

Bob Geldof saw the news reports by Maichael Buerk towards the end of November 1984, and it only seemed to be the one option for him.

Can you explain the lyrics?
The group have never given any indication that they mean anything in particular. The lyrics appear to be intended to evoke imagery rather than have a definitive meaning. Matthew Fisher who was the group's organist seemed rather pleased that he had no idea what the song was about. In more recent interviews group members seem increasingly irritated that people have been asking them the same question for 30 years.

The music of course was based on Bach's Air On a G-Strings, whick I do not mind, but it is always the lyrics that puts me off.

Chain Hang Low - Jibbs (00s)

I like Closer to the Heart, but other than that the rest of these songs are crap. Especially Chain Hang Low, that's without a doubt one of the worst songs ever.

Don't Let it End - Styx (80s)
Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature (90s)
Trouble - Shampoo (90s)
We Belong Together - Mariah Carey (00s)
I See Girls - Studio B (00s)

You Americans consider yourself lucky that Trouble by Shampoo was not a hit in the charts.  It was BIG in the UK and Canada  :\'(

I can agree with Mariah Carey's We Belong Together. I think it's just getting too much airplay, otherwise I probably wouldn't mind it that much.

I don't know if I would call them my least favorite songs, but here are the songs I don't care if I ever hear again.
Radio stations ruined these songs for me.

Kashmir, Fool In The Rain....Led Zeppelin

More Than A Feeling....Boston

Love Hurts....Nazareth (this is a least favorite song)

Another One Bites The Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody....Queen

Come Sail Away....Styx

Any John Mellencamp song (again, least favorite)

La Grange....ZZ Top

Daniel, Tiny Dancer....Elton John

Owner Of a Lonely Heart....Yes

Hotel California, Take It Easy....The Eagles

These are just a few, I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Sticking within genres of music I like (otherwise I'd list every rap and hip-hop song I could LOL), here's a few for me ...

Don't Hold Back - Chanson (1979)
Could I Have This Dance - Anne Murray (1980)
Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant (1983) (however, I did like the '01 remix.  The dance beat drowned out Eddy's vocals LOL)
Never Gonna Let You Go - Tina Moore (1997)
Dancing Baby (Ooga Chaka) - Trubble (1999) (Sadly, this was a Top 40 hit in the UK, Austrlaia and Canada.  It did not chart in America)

They might feature clever / thought provoking lyrics ... but since most have little in the way of a distinctive melody ... they just about all sound the same to me. Sampling some old hit and chucking the main 'hook' into their lyrics is about the only way to spice it up.

About the only 'rap' I've got in my collection that I can think of ... although there may be some eminently forgettable ones on my compilation CD's .... are 'Gangsta's Paradise' by Coolio  ... which is the ONLY rap song I've really ever liked .. and 'Rappers delight' by the Sugarhill gang .. from 1979 (was it THAT long ago!?).

Yeah "Check On It" had a killer beat I admit it but I think Beyonce could do better I mean lyrically it was not good at all. A song like "Dangerously In Love" that she did back in 2003 sounded like Toni Braxton lite but I think Beyonce went backwards on her 2nd album because I think "Ring The Alarm" is annoying. "Don't Cha" by PCD was overproduced that it was a hit that sounded good at the time but is corny now I thought "Stickwitu" was kinda cute though. On "Chain Low" I forgot how the lyrics went.

Obviously Wayne's not too keen on the Beatles classic 'I wanna hold your hand'; 'Put your hand in the hand' by Gene MacLellan; 'Reach out and touch somebody's hand~Diana Ross; Tom Jones' 'With these hands'; Paul McCartney's 'Admiral Halsey' ('hands across the water); 'Legs'~zz top; Franki Valli's 'My eyes adored you'; Elton John's 'Blue eyes'; 'Fingers of love' / 'Nails in my feet'~Crowded House etc; etc; etc;

I'm starting to wonder ...

does he like any BODY ?!  :P :D
