I like your list lebeiw15, but I'm surprised by some of your entries...
9.  The Logical Song--Supertramp
5.  Goodbye Stranger--Supertramp
Both from the same album but you think they're better than say ST's "Take the Long Way Home"? ???

Good pick for #1.  ;)

Anyway, keep this list. Five years from now you'll drop and add to this list different songs but some will stay on. Why will some stay and others won't? That's the interesting part.

:) ;D

I think the older songs have an edge on the newer stuff. The newer stuff still needs to stand the test of time with me. It's sort of like Rick James and "Super Freak", I liked it 14 years ago but not now. Sorry!

I can give a good 50 or so songs for every decade since the '60s, but I'll settle for just 25 today...
(oh, and my apologies to some artists that I really do like but who didn't get included on today's list -- that means you Elton, War, Steely, Little River, and the rest.)

25. Night Fever - Bee Gees (1977)
24. Tighter, Tighter - Alive & Kicking (1970)
23. Better Than You - Lisa Keith (1993)
22. Isn't It Time - The Babys (1977)
21. Cherish - Madonna (1989)
20. If Only You Knew - Patti LaBelle (1983)
19. Lady (You Bring Me Up) - The Commodores (1986?)
18. Ah! Leah! - Donnie Iris (1980)
17. The Heart of the Matter - Don Henley (1990)
16. Train in Vain (Stand by Me) - The Clash (1980)
15. Rock With You - Michael Jackson (1980)
14. Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp (1979)
13. It's My Life - Talk Talk (1984)
12. A Night to Remember - Shalamar (1982)
11. Stomp! - The Brothers Johnson (1980)
10. You Are My Starship - Norman Connors (1976)
9. I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash (1972)
8. Things I'd Like to Say - New Colony Six (1969)
7. O-o-h Child - Five Stairsteps (1970)
6. You Ought to Be With Me - Al Green (1972)
5. Oh How Happy - Shades of Blue (1966)
4. Things We Said Today - The Beatles (1964)
3. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot (1971)
2. I'll Be Around - The Spinners (1972)
1. Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (1968)

Oh goodness, I can't believe I forgot "Baker Street"!  It is indeed a great song and should have been included in my Top 15.  :-[

I think the older songs have an edge on the newer stuff. The newer stuff still needs to stand the test of time with me. It's sort of like Rick James and "Super Freak" with me. I liked it 14 years ago but not now. Sorry!

I can give a good 50 or so for every decade since the '60s, but I'll settle for just 25 today...
(oh, and my apologies to some artists that I really do like but who didn't get included on today's list -- that means you Elton, War, Steely, Little River, and the rest.)

25. Night Fever - Bee Gees (1977)
24. Tighter, Tighter - Alive & Kicking (1970)
23. Better Than You - Lisa Keith (1993)
22. Isn't It Time - The Babys (1977)
21. Cherish - Madonna (1989)
20. If Only You Knew - Patti LaBelle (1983)
19. Lady (You Bring Me Up) - The Commodores (1986?)
18. Ah! Leah! - Donnie Iris (1980)
17. The Heart of the Matter - Don Henley (1990)
16. Train in Vain (Stand by Me) - The Clash (1980)
15. Rock With You - Michael Jackson (1980)
14. Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp (1979)
13. It's My Life - Talk Talk (1984)
12. A Night to Remember - Shalamar (1982)
11. Stomp! - The Brothers Johnson (1980)
10. You Are My Starship - Norman Connors (1976)
9. I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash (1972)
8. Things I'd Like to Say - New Colony Six (1969)
7. O-o-h Child - Five Stairsteps (1970)
6. You Ought to Be With Me - Al Green (1972)
5. Oh How Happy - Shades of Blue (1966)
4. Things We Said Today - The Beatles (1964)
3. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot (1971)
2. I'll Be Around - The Spinners (1972)
1. Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (1968)

:) ;D

Wow!  someone else actually remembers "Pick up the Pieces" !!  How 'bout "Love's Theme" by Barry White?  Or "Take 5" or "Take another 5"?  Yeah R&R Fan I like the older stuff too.  I got turned on to BNL in 93 and have been a die hard fan of their stuff since.  I still think Gordon and Born on a Pirate ship are their best albums(Albums? I just dated myself)  I must add;
Spiro Gyra: Morning Dance
Herb Alpert: Rise
David Benoit: MWA

Here are just a few favorites. And since Elton is probably my favorite artist, I'll just list one of his and there are way too many Beatles songs that I like, so I'll leave them off all together. And there is no way I can put these in any kind of order, so here goes!

Harmony--Elton John
Crystal Blue Persuasion--Tommy James and the Shondells
Shine on you Crazy Diamond--Pink Floyd
Superstar--Carpenters
Red Rubber Ball--The Cyrkle (Don't ask!!) :)
Wishing You Were Here--Chicago
How Deep is Your Love--Bee Gees
River--Natalie Merchant
Secret o' Life--James Taylor
Lets Stay Together--Al Green
Strange Magic--E.L.O.
Baby Come Back--Player
Stone in Love With You--Stylistics
There's a Kind of Hush--Hermits Hermits (Memories of Childhood!!)
Good Vibrations--Beach Boys

Yes!  I loved Steppin' Out and that is why I bought the album.  I didn't know any of the other songs.. but I'm glad I got it, 'cause they were all almost as good as Steppin' Out.  "Real Men" became a favorite because I got that album. :)

I don't have Look Sharp.  I  plan on getting that real soon.

Well, thanks, I'm glad you appreciated my really long list.   :D

Yeah, some of them are probably a little unknown..I listened to a lot of Canadian music, which is where some of them came in, and a lot are songs from albums, that may never havce been released.  But they're all good!  ;)

OMG, I thought I was the only one who remembered this!  :o 8)  I love Jefferson Starship!  :)

Oh no, I love Jefferson Starship!  They were one of those bands, that I had liked We Built This City, and Sara, but had never heard of the others.  Then a radio station I listened to started playing some of their older stuff when they were doing a concert in the area, and well, I got hooked!  I thought Nuclear Furniture was just an all around spectacular album--even as a teen, it just really made me think (which is something when you're a teenaged girl!  LOL!  ;D).
I always thought that Jefferson Starship had some really thought-provoking music..and Starship was just a commercial machine.  Though, I did enjoy them too!   I actually saw Starship once when I was in Jr. High, and then I saw Mickey Thomas (who had been the guy lead singer) alone years later, and he did do some of the "old stuff" too.  I really enjoyed them.  :D

I have to tell you that I prefer Jefferson Starship from the time that Marty Balin was the lead singer (mid to late-70's).  You might remember "Miracles" and "Count On Me"...those were sung by him.  I like Grace Slick, and Mickey Thomas did a good job, too, but I kind of lost interest in them when they dropped 'Jefferson' and just became known as 'Starship'.  As you said, they went very commercial.

I agree.

Jefferson (whatever) is an odd band. Three decades of music. Hard to believe. For me I always liked the stuff they did in the '70s ('75-'78 to be exact). There just aren't many bands that can say they had hits in 3 different decades. Easier said than done I guess. The Rolling Stones just made it in '81. Stevie Wonder did it. Any one else? ???

It's impossible for me to list my favourite songs. A lot of my favourite songs are by my favourite artists, and those of you who have gotten to know me through my posts will know who they are by now, I think. :) So, instead of being repetitive and boring, I'll just leave it at that. I do like other individual songs by lots of other different bands, and maybe I'll try and come up with a list of those. But my very favourite songs are by my favourite artists. :)

The Bee Gees managed four decades of hitmaking - sadly, no more with the demise of Mo...

Not a band, but a honourable mention to Sir Cliff of Richard who's not only managed to hit in five decades (50s - 00s), but has also managed to score #1's in four of 'em (50s - 90s)...only in Britain, of course...!!
