Subject: Niskayuna

Written By: Howard on 09/02/04 at 7:07 pm

I'll be going on my trip to see my old friend Robert who lives in Niskayuna,New York(A small town in Albany) starting tomorrow (Friday) and hopefully to return on Monday morning or afternoon during the Labor Day holiday. My Mother and I will be leaving around 10am but the Amtrack train doesn't arrive till about 1:45pm so that will give us enough time to purchase the tickets and hang around for a little while. The ride is about 3 hours approximately so hopefully the time will go quickly and I will be in Schnectady at about 4 or 5pm.I haven't seen him in almost 2 years when he was living in New York at the time and he is sort of my mentor and guidance counselor so to speak. We've had a few finanicial problems but we've worked them out perfectly.I also had read that the weather up there will be cool in the morning and pretty warm in the afternoon almost the same temperatures as New York but 5-10 degrees cooler in the morning as compared to here in New York. & That's about it!

As Jim Carrey said in "The Truman Show,If I don't see you,Have A Good Morning,Good Afternoon and Good Evening! Take Care!  :)

Thanks guys,My friend Robert says "hello".From Penn Station in New York to Schnectady took approximately about 3 hours and 10 minutes.Let me tell you,the small town of Niskayuna is much different of that compared to New York from where I live.It is much quieter and serene & you can take your time while walking slow & every store is very far away but a long walking distance.Anyway,I'll talk to you soon or when I get back.Have a good weekend!  :)

Well,Danoota,Niskayuna is a nice quiet and serene place to be and you could walk at your own pace and no one would bother you + you can take your time about it.My Friend and I have visited most of the stores and so far it's almost as similar to NYC,it's uncanny.Tonight we are going to an Italian restaurant called Scotti's just around the corner from his house and having something to eat. That's basically it.I hope to talk to you all tomorrow for Part 2 of this wonderful quiet trip.Have yourselves a good night.  :)

The meal was very good but so filling.I had the Spaghetti with sauce and he had the Lasanga. The dinner came with bread and salad and we skipped desert. The choices were delicious but we both declined cause we were both full. :P The prices were reasonable and we both had a good time.Next year,I would like to come back to Niskayuna & Go back to that restaurant possibly during the winter or springtime 2005.Not too sure yet but My Mother and I will hopefully figure out a day for me to see him and spend the weekend.I had a fun time and it's just so quiet every single day like he told me in our conversation.Absolutely, nothing compared to New York without the cacaphoniness. That's about it.See you all tomorrow afternoon when I come back and hopefully I'll have a little bit more to say about the rest of my great trip. This is Howard signing off. :)

I am extremely tired after coming home 4 hours approximately on the Amtrack Train cause of the stupid Labor Day holiday and they had a delay in Utica and the car was filled up and they couldn't take anymore people so they tried their best to fit everyone in.My train was supposed to be there at 120pm then they said 240pm,then they said 330pm but it didn't come in till 350pm so I didn't come home till about 9pm from taking the Amtrack to Penn Station, then the E Train then the bus home!I will talk to you people tomorrow.I'm gonna go take a shower and go to sleep! Bad luck on Amtrak.  I once took it to Florida, and loved it, and when I come to NYC(about once
a year) I take it.  When we took it to Florida we were supposed to have a 1 hr stop in NYC that
turned into four. No fun with a (then) seven year old who happens to be Amtrak crazy.  I do tend
to recommend train travel though. It is good when it runs right.

Amtrack really sucks on holidays. That's why I spent almost 4 hours on it.
I was very tired coming home and couldn't wait to hug my mother.
I guess all that quiet was just a temporary solution for me. :(

It was very good.I really enjoyed the quietness. In Niskayuna, you hardly ever hear MUCH noise just the sounds of silence every single day compared to New York where you hear a whole HEAP of noise.I really didn't want to come back to New York,it was just so peaceful.I missed my friend Robert. We haven't seen each other in 2 years and it was great talking to him again.I definitely plan to go and visit him again in a couple of months but this time I would like my Mother to plan it out very early in the morning so that way I can get back to NY in the afternoon & not at 9pm which I had a terrible experience Monday night cause of the stupid Labor Day holiday.Anybody have anymore questions about my trip? :)

Well, once again I'm off to Niskayuna for the New Year's holiday December 30th.It's too bad that I won't be spending any time with many friends. :( Niskayuna is pretty quiet just about all around the town so I guess I'll be bringing in 2005 in a peaceful matter without any horns or dings or whatever. I read it's extremely cold compared to NYC.he told me his house is like a furnace in the wintertime so I'm gonna have to be prepared for 10 degrees with 0 below wind chills and snow showers. :o

I would think that it will be worse coming back on the 2nd with all people returning from vacations and
long weekends, whereas on the 31st a lot of people may have left early enough(say Thursday), or
would have already be at their vacation destination.

I didn't go today and I'll tell you why: >:(

I hate when Amtrak messed my whole morning up today.I went to the Amtrak station and I said what I had to say then she said that there are no Amtraks running today up to Albany cause of severe flooding and heavy rains so the asshead gave me the number to Greyhound to get from Albany to Schenctady and then they said that there are no buses running today so I wound up calling the Amtrak hotline from Penn Station and 1 customer service person told me that there will be trains on July 1st and another told me possibly tomorrow cause of heavy rains and thunderstorms if it stops. So I had to tell my friend and he was angry at Amtrak and I was angry at them too.Basically,I'm going to have to extend it either tomorrow or Saturday.I thought I was going to go and was anticipating but just not today.  :(

I'm back from vacation.I had a good couple of days despite the trouble with the Amtrak trains being disrupted from Albany-Schenectady and I had to wait till Friday when the trains were running again and back to normal but overall it was very quiet and I enjoyed it and hopefully I'll be able to do it again during the Fall season. :)

I'm back from vacation. It was a good 4 days, the weather was pleasantly warm and cool with temperatures in the upper 50's to low 60's.The only busy day was that Robert and I attended a Disability Day Convention in a mall which was very informative.Other than that,Him and I walked and talked and discussed some old news, new news and other stuff. He'll be moving to Scotia by next month so I may not have enough time to see him but Him and I will play it by ear when the time comes.

He was telling me that after 4 years since moving in November of 2002,He doesn't like Niskayuna anymore so his lease is up in November. The town consists of mostly the elderly and teens and almost every place has an Italian restaurant or pizza,Subway,McDonalds and not much variety in the shopping areas.Plus, every place you want to go to is somewhat of a long distance away and he's handicapped with a seizure disorder so my friend Robert has always been in major pain.He told me that I can come and visit him but him and I will have to play it by ear.Probably by Christmas time or early 2007,I'll be able to see him again. He's hoping Scotia will be a better town than Niskayuna.
