Subject: Games Threads...Fun but Repetative!

Written By: RockandRollFan on 09/03/04 at 12:24 am

Been there....done that....over & over.....creativity???? Sometimes.....some topics are creative......and some are NOT! Sorry, but it's really NOT that fun to keep answering something (For Example) from the 60's...and you get the letter "Y" and keep saying "Yardbirds" or whatever....what I mean is, you run OUT of stuff sooner than later and then things just keep getting repeated over & OVER again! What is the point ??? YES....I AM guilty of boosting my "Post count"...but....big deal! okay, so I'm venting my feelings about SOME of the games topics....not all of them. Yes..it IS fun to play there but when does it become a bore? Anyone else?...just wondering  ::)

I only play there occassionally, RockandRollFan. I don't mind it sometimes but quite often, as you say, it can get tedious. I am one of those people that don't care about post-boosting.

However, it should be said there a lot of people who like the games boards and that is good.  :D

Yes Mark I can see where you're coming from.  It depends on what sort of mood I'm in as to whether I play or not :-\\

I think it's fun 'til someone gets nit-picky about the way you're playing the game. If you're following the rules, I see no reason why one should be picky.

As for alphabetical lists (specifically the bands/artists list and the 80's list), I don't mind being repetitive...with certain letters. :D

Well, if I hadn't ever played games I wouldn't have learned how to multiple quote people...thanks to Vile ;)

I think it's better than ski[pping the letter altogether--some people have the misfortune to get a harder letter.I like playing myself. Why don't you check the City Chain game--certainly you can get creative there!Cheers! ;) ;) ;) ;)and put it back on the first page ;) ;)

At the risk of sounding a bit thick, RockandRollFan. How do you multiple quote? That's well handy.

You can quote one response (or you can just reply to a post), and scroll down below where you type the message, and you'll see the last few responses to the topic. On each reply, at the top right corner, is a little link where it says "Insert Quote"; do that as many times as you want, but be careful where in the message you put it!

You're welcome. By the way, I made a slight boo-boo in my post; I meant top right corner. I changed it.

I'll reiterate my comment about people being too picky about the chain and link games. You know who you are...

I really don't think that's necessary, AV.  You've stated your case time and again...now let it rest.

Yeah, well, I've been unnecessarily singled out again in another game (by someone else who shall remain nameless) and I did nothing wrong, yet again. I'm getting really sick and tired of being picked on.

That part doesn't bother me, but when people get snotty because you put the wrong artist with a song or put no artist, that's when I get annoyed and stop playing for awhile.
I hate when I do something wrong and some point it out..but then I see others making mistakes and it just slides by with no comment. Darn double-standards ::) Anyway, I agree with 80s_cheerleader..I get frustrated, I just stop for a bit ;)

That's exactly what I've been talking about! I've been singled out...not once...but twice...for doing absolutely nothing wrong, when some are getting away with far worse. Look, I know it's just a game, but that really ruins your fun when people are trying to tell you how to play a game you already know how to play...even if it's a game that they never started themselves! ::) Maybe I should stop for a while myself... I've stopped a few already.

Sure enough....stopping for a while helps but it's just a shame that we miss out on the fun :-\\

Yes, it sounds like you should stop since it's bothering you that much.

Try kindly PMing the person that's bothering you--you're better off that way.

True. Sometimes I'll see people put an odd artist for something (as I often do, attributing, say, an artist who I recognize who did a version of a song, or the version of the song I remember the best..)

:oI don't let that bother me.I mean,if it's really the wrong artist,then I like knowing.cheers!

Point is, this thread's turned not into the fact that we're becoming redundant, but rather that we're becoming angry. That's pointless. The angrier we get, the more fired up we are to disagree as we have recently. Now, I know who's getting angry with whom, and the reasoning behind it, and I'm not liking it.

For a long time I've attempted to keep a lid on things if something happens, anywhere, that I'm not happy with. At the end of the day, if some people getting angry at others, deciding whether something is a chain, whether something is a link, whether something is sequentially accurate... know that if, from a specialist subject point of view, our most fond subjects are "The controversial tactics of George Bush employed in the..", what the hell ever. Politics ain't my ride. If this were so, we'd get eaten alive by the Kerry fans, and I'd be eaten alive by the more intelligent folk over in that corner.

Is this amount of coverage, this amount of anger really necessary? I love playing, and though I don't like being reprimanded for doing the wrong thing, it is done in a sympathetic way, (as it currently is..) and I'm glad that that's continued.

As for repetitive-ism, this isn't an infinite world that we live in. Can anyone ever say that they'd dare attempt another "Countries A-Z" after this? Zimbabwe, Zambia, and.. Democratic Republic of the Congo?! Wha..?

End of the day, Marian's got the right idea about all this. This isn't about getting one up on your opponent. This is a learning experience. And quite happy I am to do so.

*rolls eyes* I knew I shouldn't have woken up this morning..

ok,here comes my two cents..it's a fun site, right?good times, not a place to stress over the missing of a letter or accidentally liniking instead of chaining..my overall experience has been lighthearted reminders to wake up and get back on track if i've goofed..no big deal(aside from once when i was reprimanded which rubbed me the wrong way for a second but i got over it just as fast..).anywho,it's not rocket science or any kind of serious competition so hopefully those among us who take it a bit over the top in being annoyed with others for slipping up can lighten up and keep it a fun, friendly place  :)
