Subject: POGS (Sammy Reed's Greatest Hits)

Here, as far as I know, is the last post I made myself before I became a registered member.

Subject: Pogs now in yard sales & flea markets

It was bound to happen sometime, and now it's official: Pogs have been so short-lived and forgotten that they have now entered the yard sale & flea market arena.
It was about a month or 2 ago when I saw a big box of 500 pogs at a yard sale, and I bought it. A few weeks ago, I saw a pog-maker and some pogs at a yard sale, so I got those too. I bought all these things mainly because of what a harmless part of the past they were, not particularly because I'm going to have any chance in heck of using them.
I guess 1995 was to pogs what 1984 was to breakdancing - It seems that on January 1st it was born, and that at the stroke of midnight on the night of December 31st, it died. I was one of those people who thought, like I guess most everybody else did, how dumb this pog stuff was. Nowadays, I look back and think, what harm did it really do? I also thought it would last longer than it did.
It's kinda sad that something this recent would make yard sales & flea markets this soon. But if you're still interested in them, at least now you can get loads of pogs much cheaper than the inflated prices they were sold at when they were a hot fad.
NOTE: Were they really sold at "inflated prices", or did I have "foot-in-keyboard disease" when I made that comment?
Now, in case you don't know what "foot-in-keyboard disease" is, it's the same as "foot-in-mouth disease", except it's the typing equivalent.

I've still got my collection of POG's, maybe that's because soon they'll become more of a collectors item the rarer they become.

I remember POGS those things were cool. I always asked my dad to buy me some every time we went to the store. I still have probably only one left from my collection but ohwell.

I'd love to know which one, I wonder if it's one that I won't have.

I think I have that one Alicia! I have loads somewhere - I don't think I could ever get rid of them as I adored them when I was younger. Hopefully I own some rare ones if they ever become valuable in the future.

I had Tazo's too. Is that the POG equivalent of listening to both Blur AND Oasis, or...? On the ground that they're (probably) both past their... better days.

IT'S OFFICIAL AS OF TODAY!

I went to a church flea market this morning and they had battle tops and battle top launchers. So now they too have entered the world of yard sales & flea markets.

as someone who goes to these types of places on a frequent basis, I can safely say that just because something appears there, doesn't mean it's over.. I see loads of baseball card collectors at these things, and Beanie Babies still seem to control some market, etc. etc.

on the other hand.. both of those fads you mentioned, were very short lived. I remember one dealer I knew couldn't give away pogs in the same year they became popular..

it's pretty rare that something marked "limited" or "collector's edition" is ever worth money.. I can point to exceptions, but not many.. and both pogs and battle tops were marketed as both.. generally, the stuff that becomes worth something, is scarce to begin with, and there's a sudden surge in popularity..

I understand about those those flea market booths that sell such latest-craze things as Beanies, racing stuff, seen-on-TV items, and the like. But what I'm talking about, of course, is that "realm" of what one usually thinks of when they think of yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores, etc. which includes such things as 8-track tapes, Atari games, Beta VCR's, Claudine Longet albums, and now of course, pogs and battle-tops.
Another thing I might as well mention: The box of 500 pogs (complete with "6 slammers" and "6 reusable storage tubes") was only $2 at that yard sale. I wonder how much something like that went for in '95? The dern box is 2 feet 4 inches tall for gosh sake!

...And come to think of it, I do remember pogs being sold in one of those current-fad flea market booths in '95 as well.

I still have all my pogs!! I was about 8 when they came out, and I remember it was the HUGEST thing in elementary school...kinda like what Abercrombie and Fitch is in high school here now....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did they have a Dale Earnhart "3" one, or did they do that after the pog fad? :P

Pogs yes i have some in fact I have some that not very many probly only a hand ful of Americans have. They are "plastic Pogs " yes plastic. I was working for a plastic plant in WI. then an we got this huge plastic sheet order from a co. call Serigraph out of Chicago. Well we didn't know it at the time till we started gettting the scrap plastic back from them that they were making pogs for Frito-Lay. Frito-Lay was putting them in bags of chips bound for lol get this Mexico yep not the USA but Mexico only. So when punched out pogs came in in a shipment we dove on them. I still have a 5 gallon bucket full of them. cool huh.
if interested e-mail me @ goofy975@msn.com maybe I can part with some. $$ ;)
