From my mom's side I'm Italian (her mom was 100% Italian), Polish, German.

From my dad's side I'm a whole mix of things. German/Norwegian (grandfather), and Norwegian/English/Irish/Scotch/Dutch/French (grandmother). I am not entirely sure about the exact percentage of English/Irish/Scotch/Dutch/French, since I'd have to go back several generations to try and figure that out, but I'm sure about everything else.

In summary: 1/4 Italian, 1/8 Polish, 1/4 German, 3/16 Norwegian, and the remaining 3/16ths English/Irish/Scotch/Dutch/French.

My first full name is Stephen, I've played a few video games(Final Fantasy on the NES and the Dragon Warrior 1 ,2 & 3 remakes on the Game Boy systems) that only let me use four letter names, the first four letters of my name spell "Step". The "chan" suffix I got from watching alot of Excel Saga(anime) where the some characters use nicknames ending in "chan".

No, nobody gets my last name right either.  Did your mom ever make cheese pita?  I like that a lot.  I'm going to try to learn Serbian so that my kids will know it.
looking all over for this, I saw it earlier but no chance to reply. She didn't make the cheese pita thing, but she made great chicken and dumplings, Weiner schnitzel, some Yugoslavian crepes she'd fill with jam, those were my very favorite, I sort of know how to say but not how to spell, I'll try Polyshenkas or something like that. she cooked stuffed bellpeppers, sauerkraut, yuck. I evacuated when I smelled that. She mixed in some German cooking with her Slavic. I told my wife I want to get a Yugoslavia cuisine cookbook and see if I can do something with it. oh yeah, she made strudel and excellent chicken and noodles.

Yeah, a lot of their food is similar to ours.  You've named a few that you don't see much here, also sarma(cabbage rolls), baklava, burik and lamb.  Oh yeah, the crepes.  I've always pronounced it polachinka, but you're probably more correct. :)  I can get my hands on a cookbook for you, but you have to learn Slavic to read it. :P ;D  You could also try Russian and Greek cookbooks.

I just found this site that has some recipes that look familiar.  http://pages.prodigy.net/dkomar/ethnic_recipes.htm

I'm half hispanic, half European

The funny thing for me is that I look mostly hispanic, but dont speak any, and mexicans all the time try to talk to me in spanish and I'm at a loss for words.

I feel like an undercover cop sometimes. I'll be standing around someone, and they'll say something racist to Mexicans, not knowing I am one.

I read this earlier and wanted to comment:polachinka is probably correct. my mom passed away in 1988 and hadn't made me any for at least 10-15 years before that, I will ressurect her old recipes and cook them and have a fond memory of her. I never dug cabbage cooked too much. She was in this country almost 30years and never shook that accent. I'll be making my annual run to take flowers to her grave next month, probably on my birthday which will be a odd way of spending the day.

Sorry to hear that.  Sounds like you have great memories of her and her delicious cooking. :)  I think you should make something from her old recipes, that would be a great way to remember her.

she was only 57, cancer whittled her down to nothing. I remember being at a softball tournament in Santa Cruz, and I swear I got this pain in my chest on the way home and for some reason I thought to myself she's passed away. When I got home the message from my older sister gave me the sad news. I'm a good cook, but could probably never duplicate that authentic Yugoslavian technique. this is heavy stuff isn't it

Just got back from Starbucks, and the girl working there asks me if my daughter is Philipino, and I explain, nope, she's Chinese, mexican, yugoslavian. Said she looks philipino and is very pretty and my kid says thanks and starts laughing and tells the girl she gets that all the time. I guess she does.but I know I dont, more hispanic than anything. My fathers side, the mexicans from Texas, have a small trace of comanche in the bloodline so thats pretty cool.
