I always thought it would be cool to live that high up, R&Rfan -- although I'm sure it's really no different, and unless you knew, you wouldn't be able to tell a difference.

Here in the Bay Area, it's basically at sea level (I think San Jose is 87 feet above?).

PS: I also think living below sea level would be interesting, in a creepy kind of way. ;) I've always been into Geography and stuff like that -- correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't California & Louisiana the only states to go below sea level?

I was amazed I was able to find this out  :o :o :o

Specifically for where I live, which is technically outside Brisbane :

Kallangur - 42 Metres above sea level - which in the old money equates to 138 feet

In my part of Sydney, approximately 190 metres. Not sure what that translates to feet, sorry :-\\

Ah !  Damn good question Jaytee  ;D

I googled "Dakabin elevation sea level" knowing full well that railways are always keen on listing elevation as part of their statistical data, and bingo :

http://qroti.com/cgi/placeinfo.pl?Name=Dakabin

Scroll down and there you have it  :)  A crapload of useless information  ;D

You will be able to do the same with your nearest station  :)

I googled how to do that as well, Mooey  :)

A metre equals 3.2808399 feet

So yours in feet = 623 feet above sea level  ;)

Thanks.  ;)

I've just found out we're 10 metres above sea level  :D

I've also discovered there is a "Camp Hill" in Pennsylvania and a "Camp Hill" prison on the Isle Of Wight and a "Norman Park" in Georgia and a "Norman Park" running track in the UK  :)

I had no idea train stations listed their elevation above sea level.  How did you come by this not so useless piece of information ???

Welcome I'm sure  :)

Err, well, I have always just had an interest in railways and I guess it is simply something I have picked up through experience.  I am not really sure how else I can explain  :)

Never thought I could put it to practical use however  ;D

Nope! Can't do that with Bexleyheath...!!

How delightful of your railways to throw that info' at you...over here, we sometimes get a thing called a 'timetable' (which is used in the loosest possible definition) and that's about it...

Anyway, I live approximately a mile and a half off the bank of the River Thames, so I presume I can't be that far over some sort of sea-level...unless rivers have started to flow uphill these days...

You can find anything if you look long enough on the net Paul  ;D

I live about 25 miles away from Camp Hill in Pennsylvania.  There's a prison there too.

In Leicester?

Leicester is the furthest actual city from the sea in the whole country.

Apparently.

Our highest elevation is just under 900 feet, however the part of Leicester i live in is around 400 feet up.. which is somewhat of a suprise.

For some reason I couldn't find the elevation for NYC, but I did find Two other cool sites:

This one will give some interesting statistics about your hometown, except for the elevation of NYC

www.city-data.com

AND this one will show you precise satellite photos of your home and surrounding neighborhood
it's cool and creepy at the same time

try them out!

Same here, due to Fuss's find...

If my contour line reading skills are correct, I find that I am 20m (or 66ft in old money) above sea level...

Amazing - I would've thought I'd have been no more than 66 inches above it...I'll start getting nosebleeds...!

No not Leicester, I live just outside of Oxford and I was told that it was the most central/inland place in the U.K but I sure that's  wrong. I guess I shouldn't have been so lazy and actually looked it up like everyone else.  ;)

because I am sad b*st*rd I googled on "centre of England" and found that the centre of England is not Meriden, near Oxford, as is popularly believed but a small farm in Leicestershire

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2271925.stm

So Alchoholica was more or less right

Subject: Re: What's The Elevation Where You Live?

Written By: Alchoholica on 04/18/05 at 9:20 am

I just worked it out.

I am ten and a half miles from the centre as the crow flys.

So i am actually closer to the centre of the country than the Historical Centre is  ;D

And Leicester is the closest city which would indeed mean that we are the farthest from the sea.

Sad B that I am I then googled "Furthest from the sea" +England and found

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/derbyshire/3090539.stm

giving Coton-in-the-Elms as the furthest town/village.  Derby is closer to that and is further West than Leicester so I reckon that makes Derby the furthest city and Leicester next.

Hmmm...I believe the elevation where I currently live (Oxnard, CA) is about 61 ft. above sea level. That's way lower than anywhere in the L.A. area, which is more than 10 times that!
