8)  The Shippensburg High School Marching Band!    8)

http://www.vintageimages.net/misc/schools/Shippensburg%20%20PA%20High%20School%201908.jpg

Fast forward a few decades and move to the west and you'll have a picture of the current high school.

Or...if that's not what was meant, then I'd have to say Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers get talked about a lot.  Maybe not as much as they used to but still.

For a list:

Kill Hannah (If I had to make a guess these guys are the next step in punk music)
Charon (just an awsome band all around)
Blessid Union of Souls  (they come and go with hits yet no one seems to notice them)
Tantric  (since 2001 you never hear about them)
Nightwish
Within Temptation  (I seem to be mention them and Nightwish on every board like this but they fit here too.  Awsome bands never talked about here in the US)
Hazardous Pedestrians  (my friends band so I had to throw them on here  ;) )
Custom  (this band would probably disgust many people but their songs are just so catchy)
Jimmies Chicken Shack  (fun band that had one hit and hasn't been talked about since)

Ok, I was only able to come up with 9 but its 3am so I have an excuse.  :P

I downloaded 'What do I do now' by accident a few months back. I love that song. It encapsulated a vibe for me at the time. Lol.  ;D

I like them, but I always thought it was funny that the two big hits that I know of by them --- 1995's piano pop ballad "I Believe" and 1999's alternative-tinged upbeat "She likes Me for Me" --- couldn't be more opposite each other, LOL! ;)

In fact, when I found out the latter song was by them, I was shocked - sounds way more like a cross of Nine Days and Third Eye Blind, but honestly, I like both songs.

Alright, well since I posted in this thread, I guess I better come up with a list! ;) In no particular order/era/style:

Loverboy - 80's hard arena rock/new wave could hardly get catchier.

Collective Soul - 90's alternative pop/rock band way underrated today (I hope their new CD 'Youth' doesn't slip through the cracks - it's their best work yet, imo!).

Tsar - Power pop/punk band circa 2000. I love their self-titled album - some of the catchiest new stuff I've heard in a long time (only discovered it by a guy recommending it to me at the used CD shop!).

John Cafferty - Guy from Eddie & the Cruisers. Did some great oldies-tinged 80's rock - say Springsteen meets 1962 meets Rocky IV - that's a general idea.

Survivor - Similar to Loverboy but not quite as hard. Just try to get "Is this Love" out of your head!!

Van Stephenson - Sounds like a dead ringer for Don Henley. Great 80's borderline hard rock, had a minor hit with "Modern-day Delilah".

Laura Branigan - Way more than just "Gloria" -- some of the catchiest, well-written danceable pop/rock of the 80's. I never got a full album of hers until after her death the past August (:(). I wanted to kick myself for that!

Eddie Money - I was hooked right when I heard "Take me Home Tonight". Catchy and somewhat hard rocking at the same time - same goes for all his 80's and early 90's albums.

Silvertide - Cool new band that sounds like a modernized Aerosmith in a way.

Buckcherry - Another modern/classic rock hybrid - like a more aggresive, alternative rock take on hair metal, but less cheesy/polished.

Yeah, "I Believe" and "Hey, Leonardo" are probably their biggest hits.  But they have had other ones like "Storybook Life".  Some other songs like "Oh Virginia" and "I Wanna Be There" have gotten moderate air play when they came out.

Underground Hip-hop:

Atmosphere
Sage Francis
Aesop Rock
Jurassic 5
Blacklicious
A Tribe Called Quest
The Phormula (very underground, local Oregon group)

Other bands:
Non-Take on Me a-ha (early stuff mostly)
Linkin Park (they get plenty of talk but most people don't like em)
Devo (it's all about Duran Duran and the Cure >:(  )

Out of many...  8)

10. The Sounds... along with Interpol & Franz Fernidand, '80's inspired band The Sounds have been compared to the likes of Blondie. Their debut album "Living In America" has many great cuts like "Seven Days A Week" and the title track.
9. Spandau Ballet... one of the most underrated new wave bands that wasn't popular in the US, but had many hits in the UK.
8. Dokken... should be ranked along with Van Halen & Def Leppard as one of the great '80's hard rock bands.
7.  Expose'...The best  of Freestyle  :D
6. 10,000 Maniacs... pre solo Natalie Merchant
5. White Lion... They're just as talented as Bon Jovi & Def Leppard
4. PJ Harvey...  One of the most underrated artists from the 1990's.
3. The Replacements... Best of '80's alternative
2. Devo... I agree with DevoRule that they're the pioneers of new wave.
1. Deborah Gibson... she still puts out great music as a stage actress, but doesn't get the recogition she deserves.

I don't think I could come up with 10, but I should mention that OMD and Thompson Twins always seemed to be living in the shadows of Depeche Mode, although I thought both were better than Depeche Mode.

And I agree on George Harrison as a solo musician.  All Things Must Pass is an amazing album.

Religious music is hardly seen outside of its own element- I don't like it at all, but my friend does, and she wears Relient K shirts to school.
