What you consider to be the greatest mistake(s) ever made in music history?

Well, there's always the ol' chestnut of how the A&R man at UK Decca turned down some Liverpool group called The Beatles...(but I'm certain you all know that...)

So, let's wheel this one out...

Back in 1968, a young singer/songwriter called Terry Reid was making quite a name for himself and seemed guaranteed of success when he signed a deal with the late Mickie Most's RAK stable...

In fact, so promising was this deal that he turned down an approach to front a newly-formed band, although he very kindly suggested another singer who he knew, who would be interested...

The band was Led Zeppelin and the singer was Robert Plant...

As for Mr Reid? Well, he still enjoyed his critical acclaim, but that was about all...nothing sales-worthy of any note ever came his way...

To die-hard Zep fans, he's always known as 'the man who turned down Led Zeppelin'...

That was a riot!  I was listening to Howard Stern way back when the album first came out.  Howard was playing the songs and laughing at them.  It was so funny.

I've gotta agree with the country one!

A few songs here and there are okay (mostly the ballads), but the "up" ones are usually honky tonk stories about getting your keys locked in your pickup truck on the way to the bar, LOL!

About 4 years ago, I used to work with a bunch of people -- my manager included - who ONLY listened to country and wouldn't give anything else a chance. I'd have to close the store and stuff (I work at Blockbuster) hearing that all the time - I felt really outta place when they'd let me put in a mix tape of 80's rock songs - hehe! ;D

I'd rather not relive that (they were cool, but their music wasn't!)

That along with the Beatles allowing William Shatner to masacre Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH. I cringe just thinking about it.

But, I do admit that I like the movie Sgt. Pepper and even own it on video.  :-[  Just call it a guilty pleasure.

MAINSTREAM RAP/Hip Hop.
Rap/hip hop itself is not a mistake, it was a cultural revolution that sadly turned into something ugly. I hope it will correct itself one day.
