I'm a fan of Dean Koontz myself.
I'm also a big Clancy Fan. I love Bill Bryson and Tim Moore. Mick Foley is proving to be an outstanding Author. Also timothy Zahn is an under rated writer.

Andy, have you read the newest from Dean Koontz, "Velocity"?? I just finished it...it was pretty good, not one of his better ones...but it was ok.

I don't tend to keep recent, just whenever i see a book on sale i'll pick it up.

Well, I'm not much of a book reader... so I would have to say that the posters on Inthe00s are my favorite authors... I tend to read their stuff daily... and keep coming back for more!

My favorite Author of all time is Stephen King!
I have ever single book and clipping he has ever written!
Second is JK Rowling and third is CS Lewis

Of the calssics I love Jane Austen, Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens.
For modern authors I love Marian Keyes,Kathy Reichs,Bill Bryson,Maeve Binchey to name a few.............

I don't read a lot of fiction like that. I am usually into Facts/Reference books. However, George Orwell and Rudyard Kipling have influenced me quite a bit. :)

The two seem to go hand in hand. I rarely see one person like Pratchett and hate Adams. :)

I think they are very similar in style but I do know one or two who like Pratchett but have never considered reading Adams or love Adams but "don't get" Pratchett :-\\

I think Douglas Adams is great.. Can't stand Terry Pratchett ;D Seriously!
I also really like Clive Barker, now talk about don't get an author. This guy writes some bizare books. I think they're outstanding, i've lent books of his to friends and had them come back the very next day.. WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT!

I love Kathy Reichs. They are making a TV show with Tempe Brennan being the main character. I really hope they don't screw it up.
My faves would be Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Janet Evanovich, Joann Fluke, Sue Grafton, Jan Caron etc. There are too many to name. I am really into mysteries, though.

My favorite is J.R.R. Tolkien. I especially liked the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series. The Silmarillian wasn't a very good book, though.

A few of my favourites have been mentioned already - Bill Bryson, Roddy Doyle, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanonich, Marian Keyes, Maeve Binchy.
I also like the classics. I love Roald Dhal - in particular his short stories and W. Somerset Maugham. John Mortimer, Barbara Kingsolver, Robin Klein and John Marsden are also favourites.

That happened with me too! I lent out "Books of Blood" and never saw it again. Now that was good
