Subject: The Gunsmoke movies - Why the ratings?
Written By: Sammy Reed on 08/26/05 at 7:09 pm
There's a DVD set of the first 3 "Gunsmoke" reunion movies. But one thing intrigued me as I looked at the box - the movies were somehow given PG-13 and R ratings!
From what I understand, they were strictly made-for-TV movies to be aired on CBS (unless I'm missing something here). Why are they given these ratings?

Looking them up the titles on www.imdb.com, it saids they are rated "R" and "PG-13" for violence. Which seems strange to me for a movie made for television to be that violent, but, as i haven't seen them, I can't really comment.

In 'Return to Dodge', it is implied that Miss Kitty was raped in the Long Branch by Will Mannon (Steve Forrest) so that is probably why they gave it an R rating. I too thought it was weird that they gave them ratings, considering they were made-for-tv movies.
