Modern R & B - some of it's good, some of it is kinda lame.
New Age - I am iffy about it because sometimes it can just get a little too far out and ethereal for me.

I pretty much like all forms of music, as long as they're GOOD. The only genre of music I truly can't stand is modern country. (I like a lot of the old stuff, i.e. Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, hell, I even like Jerry Reed.)  All the new stuff seems so soulless and corporate.

i'm that rare bird in that my two favorite kinds of music at the moment are 70s soft rock and 80s heavy metal. i sorta like the extremes, i guess.

Other faves:

i'm also big on acid jazz -- particularly corduroy and mmw. but i listened so so much of that stuff in the late 90s i'm a bit burned out on it.

also love 60s and 70s psychedelic rock -- pink floyd, strawberry alarm clock, stuff like that. anybody ever hear of the dukes of stratosphear?

finally, anything that involves b-movies. hence i like the b-52s, the aforementioned corduroy (a 90s band solely devoted to 70s car chase and 60s spy music! genius!), and white zombie.

Stuff that doesn't do much for me:

most modern pop rock. modern happypunk, like green day, good charlotte, avril whatsherbut.

don't have much of a taste for country, although i have a lot of respect for patsy cline.

i don't like much rap, although i dig public enemy and disposable heroes of hipoprisy.

My favorites:

Avant-Pop: Relies on a catchy, pop-like melody, but has the depth most pop music lacks. Momus, Magnetic Fields, Ween
Goth Indie: Too hard to be EMO, too soft to be Goth. Black Heart Procession, Daniel Johnston
Indie: Not the "acoustic guitar, sad lyric" kind, the good kind that varies all over da place. Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal
Modern Rock: Uh.. I don't even know how to put this. Soul Coughing, Cake

My least favorites:

Smooth R&B: Christ, this would be a good genre if it didn't rely on so many of the tired stereotypes of R&B.
Country: See above.
Hip-Hop: See above.
Christian Rock: Wait, no, maybe it's just Christian music I hate. I hate lack of subtlety, which is why I hate most Christian bands (except Woven Hand, they aren't just saying "Jesus Jesus Lord Lord God is awesome" over and over again.)... plus, almost all Christian bands are horribly over-rated. There ARE only, like, 12 of them, after all.

Really?  I dislike it for the opposite reason.  It seems most "Christian" rock you would have to be told that it was Christian or you wouldn't know it if you listened to one of those songs.  They're...poser Christians.
