My aunt bought us one of those vhs/dvd recorders and the box says we need DVD-R 4x for it. She went to walmart and all she saw was DVD-R 8x blank dvd's....
Does anyone know what the 4x and 8 x part means?

I believe 4x and 8x means DVD writing speed.

It's the writing speed, and 8x discs should work in a 4x drive just at a slower speed.
