Subject: What would you consider 'Message Board Addiction?'

Written By: Trimac20 on 02/20/06 at 8:13 am

Where would you put the cutt-off line at? An average of more than 2 posts a day? 5 posts a day? 10-50, 100 posts a day? When I'm in a message-boarding-mood (usually lasts for a few weeks) I might average at most 5 posts a day. It seems this is a full-time job to many of you :D.

well...I usually spend a few hours a day on here, while doing other things online as well. I don't consider myself to be addicted, so to say.....but I do enjoy being here. I know of a lot of people who are here a LOT more than I am though...maybe they are a bit addicted themselves! ;)

2 Hours a Day of Non-Quality Posts is Postwhoring Addiction.. You Like Seeing Your Own Name, and Feel Superior To Others For Having 3908598 posts...

If you're spending at least 2 hours, 4 or more days a week posting quality posts, I'd say you have an addiction.

Either that, or if the message board is interfering with your actual life/personal relationship/daily habits.

Yeah, I've done that before. ;) I've been on message boards since 1998, so especially on ones like this (where I'm more of a frequent poster), sometimes I'll think of a topic I'll want to ask/tell people later on when I'm not even online. I guess it's just like a real life hangout, or real life friends in the sense that they'll sorta be in your mind at any given time.

Exactly!  I don't think having a ton of posts and karma means you're addicted to this place.  It means you enjoy posting here and other people enjoy you posting here.  Nothing wrong with that.

As for friends in real life...I haven't hung around in a group with them a whole lot, but I still talk to them (via email, phone, and in person).

very true. Believe me...I have been "addicted" to certain things in my lifetime....but posting on this messageboard...or any other website, for that matter, is NOT what I would classify as an "addiction".  It is nothing compared to certain personal instances of mine (from my past).  Let me put it this way....I know of nobody in my real life who has the interests and passions for certain pastimes...as some members on this board. Here, I can discuss things like: thrift shopping, urban exploration, haunted places/things, roadside attractions, nostalgic things, old music/movies/tv shows, different childhood memories, etc.....I mean, basically...that's what my "being" is made up of...things from the past...so why wouldn't I want to participate in a place where I find people who are so much like myself? It's easy to figure out why this place attracts so many of us....but that doesn't mean that we are "addicted".....we just merely "fit in" and enjoy being here. ;)

Ok, ok...I do think it's a little odd people posting names to songs or whatever as a full-time occupation, but whatever floats your boat...
If I could get paid $12 an hour for posting 100 times in the PBG per hour that'd be a pretty sweet job right there.

ya, why are you all of a sudden coming back here and ripping all of the members apart (calling them basically postwhores, etc)....whenever you and DD were two of the biggest postwhores known to man not too long ago? Nobody has done anything to you...so why are you starting trouble? If people want to post in the PBG until they are blue in the face....that's up to them. Not everyone on this site has "postwhore" mentality...some people actually post there because they totally enjoy it.  I mean, if you have something against someone in particular here, take it to PM's please...because it's not fair to lump a large group of people into one stereotype.

No I wasn't making a personal attack on anyone, or suggesting that people who like playing Penguin Board games are weirdos or anything. I'm just wondering why people spent 2-3-4 hours daily doing them - I'm not suggesting they have nothing better to do, I'm sure some of you really do find it fun. We all have our reasons for doing things, and of course I understand how people could enjoy doing that, but I'm just making my perfectly legitimate opinion known. But I'm not here to ruffle any feathers, I wish nally, whistledog.etc well in their endeavors - whatever that is. Anyway, no harm meant.

I only started using the internet around 6 years ago and boy was i surprised with how much i liked it,it was like all of the sudden i couldn't get enough of it,but like everything else in my life after awhile i got bored with it.
