Subject: What is "Karma"?

Written By: ultraviolet52 on 02/23/06 at 4:33 pm

We have this new feature to our little profile thingy that says "Karma" and for awhile it said "0" for me, now it says "1"

What does this mean?

You get to "applaud" someone, and it gives them a point. Apparently, it's only working for the editors, so... you can't do it right now.

By the way, I applauded you..

And there I was thinking this was going to be adeep and meaningful thread........... ::) Either that or you had been watching 'My name is Earl' !

I keep thinking of the plastic ono band and radiohead in alternation. instant karma police!

Is the plan to have it keep being just for the editors? Or is there gonna be a karma free-for-all? Cuz that would be FUN. :)

;D Karma Police keeps hitting my mind

I'm not sure.. probably for everyone. Whenever there's a new edition to the site, it seems only the editors get it, or only the editors DON'T get it.

Well, I hoped to make it meaningful by maybe letting others be informed of what it is, too. If that counts for anything, lol.

By the way, I do know what Karma is, lol I'm not THAT out of it..

So, by being applauded, I gather you said or did something to make the editors happy? Is that what it means?

I think it's for anyone who wants to applaud you...

Basically it's gonna be like candy grams. You get them from people who like you, and well.. not from ones who don't.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Now I see that we can applaud anyone, so I'll start doing it - lol.

Is there no way that I could get some "applauds" as it were?

There's a running log of who applauds who.  No tracking for what thread/post, which I think is a little lame, but hey, I didn't write the silly thing.

You should only be able to applaud once a day, though it looks like the editors get the ability to do it whenever they want (odd).  So the limited ability to applaud should indicate that you should only do it when someone says something cool.  I don't know if there's a limit to the amount of karma one can receive. According to the database field, it's 65535 which is a lot.  I have no doubt someone will shoot for that though!

If someone wants to, they can start a thread in this board where people explain why they applauded someone.  I removed the ability to "smack" people (award negative karma) 'cuz I thinkknow people would go nuts with it in the political forums.

I fail to see the problem with Hitler hairdo's. In future please refrain from personal attacks against my Lord and Master.
Mussolini would be ashamed of you.

uh oh. busting out the national socialist prosthelytizing on the public threads. i'll be interested to see where this goes.

i was thinking about it last night. do y'all roam around beating people up and stuff? or is that a different outfit? do you guys have a political wing and a militant one, like the IRA?

We just assault people we don't like the look of.

It's more a kind of club, we have to hire a church hall and everything.

We had these really neat Uniforms but then some Boy scout group came and stole them. We tried to beat 'em up but there were a lot of them.

If only Josef was there..

Rimmer:Perhaps you'd like to explain to me why it is that every major battle in history has been won by the side with the shortest haircut.
Kryten: Oh, surely not, sir!
Rimmer: Think about it! Why did the US cavalry beat the Indian nation? Short back and sides versus girly-hippie locks. The Cavaliers and the Roundheads, 1-0 to the pudding-basins. Vietnam, crew-cuts both sides, no score draw.
Kryten: Oh, for a really world-class psychiatrist!

You needed franz, the guy with the potato masher who knew he could fight back with the Americans Dying channel. I love that picture; he looks so determined.

Church meetings? Shouldn't it be plotting putsches in beer halls? Or is that a matter of been there, done that?

Allright, I'ma give you props for the boy scouts thing. that was a good one. it's only REALLY embarrassing when one is overwhelmed by Brownies in vastly superior numbers.

I know on gamefaqs, they have a karma system, you start out with the points and lose some everytime a moderater deletes your post over something that's not allowed to posted(bad words, slurs, sexual themes, etc.). I've ended up with three of my posts deleted by a moderater, not bad for being there for almost a year and a half.
