Subject: What country songs do you lke?

Written By: ADH13 on 03/01/06 at 4:58 pm

Usually when someone mentions a country song that they like, it is in the context of "I'm not a big country fan, but I like..."

I too am not a big country fan... but here are some of the ones I do like.

Baby Blue - George Strait
All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down - Hank Williams Jr
The Dance - Garth Brooks
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash
Come On In - Oak Ridge Boys
Stand By Your Man - Tammy Wynette
The Grand Tour - George Jones
I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool - Barbara Mandrell
East Bound & Down - Jerry Reed
You're Still The One - Shania Twain
Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer - Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes
The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised - Johnny Paycheck
Neon Moon - Brooks & Dunn
Fancy - Reba McEntire

I'm not a country fan at all, but I do like some songs by country artists that have been hits on the pop charts.

Some that I do like include (all of these have been hits on the pop charts, and been played on pop music radio stations):

Many songs by LeAnn Rimes.
"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack.
There are a few Shania Twain songs that i don't mind (including "Man I Feel Like A Woman" and the 'pop' version of "That Don't Impress Me Much").
"You'll Think Of Me" by Keith Urban.

There are quite a few country songs I like. I don't listen regularly, but I don't mind hearing it once in awhile.  I do like George Jones alot, and I love Patsy Cline.

He Stopped Loving Her Today and The Grand Tour--George Jones
Shameless, The Dance, Thunder Rolls--Garth Brooks
Forever and Ever Amen and 3 Wooden Crosses--Randy Travis

Some Dixie Chicks songs and pretty much anything by Patsy Cline

There are lots more, if I think of more I'll post them later.

I forgot to add: "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks isn't really a favorite of mine, but there are times when I don't mind listening to it. :-\\ O0

I like a lot of the older stuff, from the 70's and before.

Too many to list right now, but one of my favorites was "Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson (1970).

I'm not much of a Country Music fan, but there were a few 80's ones I liked.  With the exception of The Gatlin Brothers, all of these also qualified as pop hits ...

I Love A Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbitt
Drivin' My Life Away - Eddie Rabbitt
You and I - Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle
Houston (Means That I'm One Step Closer to You) - Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers
Baby, I Lied - Deborah Allen
Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love - BJ Thomas
Blessed Are the Believeres - Anne Murray
Now and Forever (You and Me) - Anne Murray
Try - Blue Rodeo
In the Driver's Seat - John Schneider

Don't know whether it's 'pure' country, but Harry Nilsson's 'Everybody's Talking' has got to be one of my all time faves. No other song brings back memories of the movie it is associated with as well as this song...

*Michael Murphy (What's Forever For, Geronimo's Cadillac)

I completely forgot about him.  I loved What's Forever For, as well as his other 80's pop-coutry hit "Still Taking Chances" :)

Oh, I forgot I like Indian Outlaw by Tim McGraw... I'm pretty sure it's a remake/sample from another older song called Cherokee People.

Without hearing it, I'd say that was 'Indian Reservation'...or a version of it!

Yep, that's originally 'Indian Reservation (The Lament Of The Cherokee Reservation Indian)' which was the biggest hit by Paul Revere and the Raiders

I am not a fan of country or western music but I absolutely love The Blues Brothers renditions of
Stand By Your Man - Tammy Wynette   (funny choreography by Jake and Elwood)
Theme From Rawhide - Frankie Laine

performed at Bob's Country Bunker
