Subject: The voice within the character

Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 03/05/06 at 8:46 pm

There are so many different cartoon characters, puppets, and other popular TV icons that we see everyday...but very rarely do we see the person whose voice is behind this creation. This thread basically shows what the person (who provides the voice for these characters) looks like or who they are.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0520/csmimg/p18a.jpg

This is Caroll Spinney....he plays the voice of Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird on the beloved Sesame Street.  For nearly 35 years, Caroll Spinney has been Oscar and Big Bird.

Sometimes he's inside Big Bird, moving Big Bird's wings with his left hand and his beak with his right. Other times, he's hiding behind Oscar's garbage can. Occasionally, he plays both characters at once!

This is Kevin Clash....he is the voice of the ever popular, Elmo!!  http://i.cnn.net/cnn/SPECIALS/2002/black.history/stories/28.clash/clash.jpg

Kevin Clash provides the distinctive voice for Elmo, the immensely popular Muppet character introduced on "Sesame Street" in the 1980s. Told to provide a voice for Elmo soon after joining Sesame Street as a puppeteer, Clash came up with Elmo's distinctive voice and laugh, turning the puppet into one of the show's most popular characters. It also netted Clash an Emmy Award.

I've seen the Elmo guy before, but never Oscar/Big Bird.

Is it just me or does anyone else try to figure out the voices in commercials too?  i.e. Julia Roberts does some AOL commercials, Christian Slater does Panasonic, etc.

yes, I do that sometimes.  Some of the voices sound very familiar at times....but I usually cannot place them.

Gollum is cool, I love his split personality, the evil murderous Gollum and the try to be good  Smeagol,  but that darn Ring screwed him up something fierce  ;D

WHOA. Nancy Cartwright has NOT aged well.  :o

If anyone remembers, she was in the Twilight Zone movie.  She was the young blonde girl in the story about the boy who could use his mind to control reality. He could turn people into things.  Ironically enough on one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes of The Simpsons, they do a spoof of this story with Bart. Anyway, she didn't look too old then. Maybe early 20s if not younger looking. And that was the early 80s I think.. So she shouldn't even be 50 I don't think. But god she looks it. Anyway, sorry for the tangent.

About Mike Judge:

He took the name "Arlen" for the fictional town in King Of The Hill by by combining Arlington, and Garland. These are both suburbs of Dallas, and infact, Garland is Judge's hometown. I'm originally from very close to Garland. I am from a neighborhood in East Dallas called Casa View/Casa Linda. If you'll ever notice, on King of the Hill the apartment complex where Hank's dad and several other characters live is called Casa Linda.

Re-posting this so people will see it, lol.

WHOA. Nancy Cartwright has NOT aged well.  :o

Age certainly has not been kind to her.  I remember her from the Twilight Zone movie :)
