Subject: List the countries you've visited

Written By: Trimac20 on 04/15/06 at 4:48 am

I haven't travelled a great deal in my 20 years, I'm probably the only Australian who hasn't visited Bali or Phuket...

The countries I've visited are;

Malaysia
New Zealand
Singapore

And THAT's it...Within my own country I've been to the Eastern states, around WA...

I need to get out more.

Only been in New Zealand
Hoping to visit Australia in the next 2 years or so. (I must be the only New Zealander who's never been to the land of Aus yet...)
Hoping to see the rest of the world (or at least some of it) within the next 20 years.

I spent about 6 months of my life in NZ (when I was really young), and went back for a school ski-trip in 2002...it was the first time I saw snow, and I must say skiing is pretty damn addictive! We skiied at Mt. Hutt and around Queenstown. Queenstown was a lovely and picturesque place, though perhaps lacking the old world charm of say European resorts. We also visitied Christchurch, Dunedin and a few other spots in the South Island.

hmmmm lets think back

in the 70s I holidayed in Singapore and Bali a few time.

in the 80s I holidayed in Singapore, New Zealand, Fiji, Noumea, Tahiti, Samoa and Tonga before moving to the US (CalNev) to live for a year, then to the UK to live for a few years.

in the 90s - still living in the UK.

Since then, havent bothered with overseas - mainly due to lifestyle choices like paying off mortgages !! Instead I travel to the east coast 4 or 5 times a year to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Coffs Harbour, Snowy Mountains etc. Use to regularly visit the outback relatives but cant be bothered with them anymore.

Not that I know of. The only term i've heard is 'Aussies'. French people are 'Frenchies', but everyone else is just referred to by whichever part of the world they come from (eg- an american is just referred to as an American, a chinese person as 'chinese', or chink, but chink is usually used as an offence)

well I had three weeks to bum around...

then I was too tired to do anything else so i got a room at a B&B at the beach a little further north and laid around there till it was time to go home.

what a waste, yet great at the same time.

"Pom" doesnt offend Aussies as probably 95% of us use it affectionately to describe anyone from England.

It was derived from the initials used on the convicts uniforms in the 1700s "Prisoner Of His/Her Majesty" - POHM then become Pom.

Some choose to use it in a derogative manner - "whinging poms", "bl**dy pommie tourists" etc - but for the most part it is very definately a non racist term used in a friendly manner - "my pommie mate", "going on holiday to pommieland", "we beat the poms at cricket" etc.

I am fairly sure that where the Aussies refered to Poms - it was the Americans who used Limey to describe British subjects.  While I have always known the term "limey" - its not one that I have ever actually heard an Aussie use in conversation.

Trying to remember where it derived from - I am fairly sure it had something to do with eating limes to prevent scurvey.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limey

Limey is an Alternate word for British. It is a racist term, coming from the habit of British sailors to consume limes as a source of citrus to ward off scurvy.
