I have stumbled upon discussions about this kind of thing before....but have you seen a certain cartoon/famous character and you often wonder, what are they?  For example...Grimace (McDonald's character), Gonzo (from the Muppets), and Goofy (Disney character).....what are they?  Can you think of any others that would fall under this category?

concerning the 3 listed above I have heard that Grimace is merely a purple blob and that he used to be somewhat "evil"...but has mellowed out.

Goofy has been said to be either a dog or an odd looking human. :o

In the original cartoons, a character bearing a very strong resemblance (in fact, almost identical) to Goofy was named "Dippy Dawg".

I heard it from God's Taxonomer in 1993, and I believe it.  That doesn't help you with Gonzo or Goofy, but at least we've solved it for Grimace.  He and Barney are the last of their kind.

Gonzo was a space alien - it referenced this many times in the Muppet Movies...

Grimace is just a big, fat purple monster, and Goofy is supposed to be dog, though I didn't realise that until recently.

Goofy is a dog, I understand...



Yeah...but he doesn't act like one. He acts like a person in every way: stands upright, talks, wears clothes, etc...which is why I didn't always think he was a dog. Pluto, on the other hand (who is also a Disney dog), acts like a dog in every respect.

I've always wondered what the Warner siblings from "Animaniacs" are (Yakko, Wakko, and Dot). They have tails and dog ears, but they look like some sort of animal...it's anyone's guess as to what they might be.
