Subject: Your Elementary School Achievements

Written By: velvetoneo on 05/12/06 at 6:08 pm

-I won the 6th grade school spelling bee on the word "julienne." I got out on the tri-county on "ante", as in poker.
-I was exhibited in a local mall in 2nd grade for some art of mine.
-I had a story published in a Wizard of Oz fan magazine in the mid-'90s, c. 1996.
-My painting from 4th grade was exhibited in Newark and flashed over Times Square.

WHY am I so disordinately proud of these things? I haven't done much special since then, I guess... ;D

What are your elementary school "achievements"?

I won my school's geography bee 6 years in a row, took 1st place in the science fair 5 years in a row and was the valedictorian of my 8th grade graduating class.

I didn't do much in elementary.. middle school (6th-8th) was my time.. I won the Science Fair in 6th, won the Geography Bee school-wide 7th and 8th, and qualified for the regional spelling bee every year. I also scored so high on the standardized tests and stuff that they let me take the High School SATs every year... I got 1080 in 8th grade on the old scale. Not bad.

I never had any achievements in elementary school.  I did however pull a real mean and crude gag on my Grade 5 teacher, and I didn't even get punished for it

I got a couple ribbons for science fairs, got a $500 scholarship (big deal, lol) in some spelling bee (though that had nothing to do with school, it was something I had entered on my own).

I was in many school plays/musicals (and even in high school, I was in the select choir, and traveling singing ensemble).
(This was in the beginning of high school) I was nominated and featured in, "Who's Who Among American High School Students".
I won awards for best Halloween costumes and best Valentine's Day box.
I made honor and/or high honor roll most of the time.

I made honor roll everytime possible and in 6th grade I had perfect attendance...and I'm happy to report that I am still making honor roll :)

I was the star of the 6th grade musical...each of the five 6th grade classes did a decade, and our class got the '70s. I sang "I Will Survive." I had just come out of the closet as gay.

I am now thinking about the part of "Mean Girls" where the gay guy sings "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera

Yuck, gay men don't know what to like nowadays. ABBA, disco, Madonna, Kate Bush, Peggy Lee, Pet Shop Boys, Tori, and Morrissey all the way!

I couldn't imagine coming out of the closet as a 6 grader, I hope your teachers/parents.etc were supportive - back when I was that age some people barely knew what 'gay' really meant. Serious...

Nonetheless, I'm sure Gloria Gaynor would be proud!

Gloria's also a local girl for me, she comes from Newark, which I consider my "city" more than NYC, because my family and the families of most in my town are Newarkers. Alot of people didn't, I had to answer alot of questions...I came out to my schoolmates but not my parents.

Oh yes, I can relate to the latter...let's just say, it's all put behind me now  :D.

Well, actually it was my sister who found it out at first. Lucky she was out of the 'dobbing' stage, lol.

I got a certificate stating that I could float like a jellyfish. (age 5)
I was in every Christmas play except the very first year I was at school.  I played a tree, was a narrator, King's attendant, Bob Cratchit and the boy who Dr Barnado found.

I got jack all in Elementary/Primary school, 'cept the mandatory 'certificate of recognition' of some crud like that which everyone got lol.

In High School, though, in the last week of year 12 we had a dress-up day, and I came up with a very original, very unique costume; my school uniform, and hence won the 'Least Effort' award. It's an award I treasure to this day. Indeed, I'm anti-convention in many ways; I didn't go to my School ball (Prom) in my senior year, which I didn't give a damn about...I'll be looking forward to my ten year reunion in 2013 tho..

My teacher thought I did the best job out of everybody, and awarded me with a pack of gum!  :D :)

I turned up to one in regular clothes as a 'Secret Agent'.
I pointed out the necessity to remain incognito, but I still got in trouble.

You actually got in trouble for not wearing a costume? Where'd you go to school, a Catholic convent?

Excellent stuff. Well done.

Right.. I've racked my brains.

I received a commendation for getting 100% on all the Geography tests in 7th grade.
The whole school took these C.A.T tests, anyway, I scored the highest mark in my grade and about the 3rd highest in the school, they decided that they would move me up in to all the top set classes, I then proved how lazy I was by being moved back down to the middle sets (apart from science, I was always great at that).

First choice center back Grade' 6,7,8,9,10 and 11. (football)

First choice Tighthead Prop Grades 7,8,9,10 and 11. (rugby)

Won the 9th Grade shot put competition breaking the school record. The next year I finished 3rd even though I threw further than the year before.  :P

I was Judas Iscariot in our 5th grade performance of the crucifixion. How fitting.

This is all I can remember, I feel I should send my mother an E-mail, I know she has all of the certificates and what not.

I was in the Spelling Bee every year, only won once though if I remember right, that was a long time ago  :-[

A friend and I were in the Talent Show in 5th or 6th grade and wore matching outfits  :P and sang "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Brand New Key"  ::)

I'll have to clear the cobwebs out and try to think of some more  ;D

- I won first prize in 4th grade for our school science fair
- I won first prize for a pumpkin decoratiing contest in 3rd grade
- I got accepted into choir in 6th grade after barely getting through "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"  ;D

I won the math award at elementary school graduation.

I got a science award (that's incredible, I hated science) one year for my science fair project about why we have freckles, why we hiccup, and other random questions.

Um...my friends and I made a club and we cleaned up all the trash at a bus stop and got some kind of certificate for that.

I had a real crappy black plastic flute we used in 3rd grade. They had a recital with us playing the flutes and it sounded SO awful. I don't think any of us knew what we were playing.
