Subject: Songs you have that unexplainable love for...

What songs do you love too much to put into words!?

El Condor Pasa (If I Could)-Simon and Garfunkel
Family Tree-Belle & Sebastian
This Here Giraffe-The Flaming Lips

... there are more, I'll add them later.

Oh, Where to begin..

Right now, "Brightly Wound" and "Lost At Sea" by Eisley, for certain reasons.

"Angeles", "Division Day", "Bled White", "Say Yes" and "Memory Lane" by Elliott Smith. Actually, let's just sum it up and say every song he's ever done! =)

"Bird Stealing Bread", "Sunset Soon Forgotten", "Muddy Hymnal", and "Weary Memory" by Iron & Wine.

"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve gives me chills every time I listen to it.

Well, I haven't even put a dent in it yet. I'll post more as I remember.

Why unexplainable? As campy as a song is, I also have some sort of awareness of the reason 'why' I like it. I admit, there are a whole stock of campy 70s pop I love listening to (but I would probably hesitate to blast out of a boombox in a crowded street), but at least I can identify reasons I like the song - e.g. because it has a dancy melody. Bah, don't mind me I'm just blabbering!

Not sure.. that's the thing isn't it. Hard to tell, makes you listen.

It's a song of contradiction, which I'm all about.

There are a lot.. I closest to unexplainable are:

1. Professor Shaftenberg- Momus... for the life of me, I can NOT figure out what I likea bout this song.
2. Pretty Girls Make Graves- The Smiths... honestly, this song is terribly written, but I listen to it on a loop for a really long time.
3. The Machman- Gary Numan... nothing about this song would imply that I should like it, but dammit, I do.
4. System of a Down- B.Y.O.B.... some System of a Down is understandable, but this song doesn't make sense for me.
5. This Way- D.A.T. Politics.... it's waaaaaaaay too uber-happy for me.. but then, most Chiptune Music is.

I wouldn't get in, Karen. I go for the 'jokes that are so crap, they're funny' mentality. Stand-up requires humourous anecdotes and the Jerry Seinfeld 'What's it all about' mentality. Oh, that reminds me of a hilarious Cheers episode where Cliff wants to be a stand-up comic and he thinks by simply saying "What's up with that?" he is being funny.

Yes, I have heard they have tough crowds in the US. A good job too as they are ones paying their hard-earned money to see these people. We have a 'comedian' (and I'll use the term loosely) called Phil Jupitus, and he regularly does stand-up comedy over the world . . . He's crap and I don't know why people give him the time of day.

well, to be fair the guy was also wearing a diaper. i don't think society is ready yet for that particular brand of humor. plus, he sucked.

oh, i said "breathe" by ministry. but i meant "so what?". that song's amazing.

It seems he got what he deserved.

Yeah him and c moyles need to go and take a running  jump off the nearest pier.   >:( >:(

Ha ha! Chris Moyles (man who hosts Radio1 in the morning for anybody interested) really does have an inflated ego. Moyles gets a lot of humour from basically picking on anybody that is with him in the studio - he's attempting the Chris Evans style of radio and I don't thank him for it.

Yes, this song--.. In fact, all their songs kind of suck, but I can't help but love them. Probably because all the guys I work with used to be in this band.

Sleepwalkin'-Modest Mouse

That kinda has the properties of those old 50s Slow Dances, maybe that's why.. it's just a really good chord progression, and it's a totally different side of Modest Mouse.

"Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads is really sticking with me, no clue why, but there's something really cool about it.

Satan my Master by Dimmu Borgir.

I can sit and listen to it all day.

Chugs along like a behemoth whilst at the same time maintaining an inner core of pure beligerance and disgust.

the real spooky thing is that when you play "satan my master" backwards, it's all about smiles and sunshine and bunny rabbits.
