Geez, Darko, take a breath! This is, what, the tenth thread of the night?

But anywho, It kicks ass when you're playing a good round of "Dammit".

He just wants to fill this forum with as much Gwen Stefani as he possibly can.

Ethical?  Give me a break.  It shows you who's online, not their SS #s and ATM PIN numbers.

It's like a contact list!!

It tells you if your buddy is on and that is very useful.

I'm just wondering how having a 'Who's Online' is supposed to make it easier for stalkers to track you down  ???. I mean if they really wanted to stalk you they could track you down by you just being a member here.

It's not unethical, it's annoying. People will just watch it and be like "HOLY SH-T!!!!! SOMEONE USED THE SPELL CHECKER?!?!? I HAVE TO GO TELL THE OTHERS!!" or "Man, it's so freaking hilarious that some guest is viewing a thread!"... that stuff annoys the crap out of me, for some reason.

If it didn't show the activities of Guests, or things that people don't get (Unknown Action, XML Feeds), it'd be slightly less unfine, but I hate that thing.

What do you mean you hate the thing? How the fudge are you supposed to know when your buddies are online unless it says so somewhere?

He's talking about the section that informs you of what everyone else is doing, not the list at the bottom of the homepage.

Ummm...well, I use it for stalking.

Kind of anyhow. I want to read what my sister (or other people) is writing and I use it to "follow" her around the boards.

No, I'm cool with that thing.. it's the button that gives us specifics that I hate. Cause then everyone's like "OMG WHAT'S AN XML FEED?!?!" or "OMG THE GUESTS ARE SOOOOOO WEIRD LOL!!!"

Subject: Re: How ethical is Who's Online?

Written By: Sister Morphine on 05/31/06 at 3:39 pm

I have a feeling this is directed at the "Who's Online" thread, where we do make mention of interesting things we seen in the "Who's Online" part of the board.

My question to the whiners (and let's face it, you are whining about this) is exactly what is so wrong with looking at the list and mentioning that someone is printing an XML feed or viewing that MC Hammer pants thread......when it's funny and we all get a kick out of it?  Come on......a guest printing a thread?  That's weird and it's funny.

I don't see anything funny in that...I just think so what? I guess the guest has the freedom to print a thread if he wants to.

I think it's funny that someone who isn't a member of the site is printing a thread from said site.

Hmm.. funny that you're going to point fingers about whining. But we're not gonna go there.

See, it was funny at first. People said "Wow, some of the things guests do are weird".. it was amusing, you'd think "Ha, why are guests doing weird sh-t like that?".. but it kept happening.. every 30 seconds, someone posts:

GUEST- DOING SOMETHING WEIRD

and saying "Oh My God, that's so funny!" or "Rubixgirl has a fan!!!"

It's kinda like the same joke being told over and over and over and over and over. If I were to say, overtake one or two threads saying nothing but shouting out various sex-related body parts, that would undoubtedly annoy people eventually, even it amused them to begin with.

Well, if you think it's annoying, just don't go into that thread.  I can see how it can be over the top sometimes, because it can be, but sometimes it's just good for a chuckle.  I know I use it for that sometimes.

I generally do avoid those threads.. it's when it bastardizes Longest Thread Ever or some other thread.. there are threads for that crap, it doesn't need to be all over the place.

Agreed,at one point it was just everywhere.funny enough I've never found it very amusing

I think the comments started off in LTE before someone started the 'Who's On-line' thread.

. . .

???

So you don't want to know who's online so you can chat with them?

I reckon Bruce Springsteen would have something to say about that;

"Even if we're just posting in the dark".  ;D
