Subject: UK Set For The Hottest July Day Ever.

Written By: Philip Eno on 07/19/06 at 2:02 am

Britain is preparing for the hottest day of the year with temperatures forecast to reach 36C (96.8F).

Monday and Tuesday have already seen the two hottest days so far, with temperatures of up to 33.2C (91.8F).

It is set to be the hottest July day since 1911, when temperatures reached 36C (97F) in Epsom, Surrey.

The highest UK temperature ever recorded was 38.5C (101.3F) in Faversham, Kent, on August 10, 2003.

Roads have been melting in parts of England as the heatwave across most of the country continues.

Gritting lorries have been sent out to spread crushed rock dust on melting tar to create non-stick road surfaces.

Holy the roads are actually melting? :o

You'd best get lots of fans and ice to help cool you down

Personally speaking, my plans for the day have totally changed. Due to go to a cricket match over the other side of London, but now I am staying at home, with plenty of cool water on tap.

What you also have to factor in is that very few places have air conditioning.  Because this hot weather is unusual for us most businesses considered it an unnecessary cost

So we open the windows. The old Sash Cord Windows are the best, for the windows can be open each halfway, thus letting the hot air out the top and the cooler air in the lower open window.

A bit hard when your office is in the basement!

The offices upstairs have windows but also have a flat roof and are about 5 degrees hotter than my office!

Though these temperatures are rare for the UK, but I fear our summers will see high temperatures more often.
