No. Most everyone just gets a day off from work, except the people in retail and groceries. And my husband. :P

So if it is Labour Day, you should be working not having the day off?

It's like a bank holiday in the UK.

Energy FM Arizona was doing all songs A-Z this weekend.  They were at "Pavement Cracks" last night around 6:20 PM AZ time.

The classic rock station here in Atlanta usually does a countdown on Labor Day, but I don't know if they're doing it this year.

My favourite of radio marathon is when BBC Radio1 opens up the phonelines and the public phones up for request and the obscure records are played.

Not that I know of.  One year, they counted down Top Canadian songs of the 80s.  I remember coz they played "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar and it got stuck in my head for weeks ;D

American television is offering a marathon of the Sherman Helmsley 70's sitcome "The Jeffersons" all day today.  All the episodes have been playing (and it's the ONLY thing playing on that channel since Friday.)  They are calling it the "Good neighbor day" marathon, cause like neighbor rhymes with labor.  ??? ::)

Unfortunately, the U.S. has really forgotten the meaning of Labor Day. It is supposed to be a celebration of the many victories in labor of this country-the 8 hour work day, the passage of the minimum wage, better working conditions and benefits. Now it mearly marks the end of the summer with BBQs and yard sales  (not to mention having the day off).

In my labor union it is in our contract that we absolutely do not work on Labor Day unless called out in a matter of life and death.  I, too, get pissed off at those who do not appreciate the meaning of Labor Day, or, even worse, don't care.

Labor Day, shmabor day.
Watch my boss pay
to hire my butt,
then send it away,
to celebrate work
by playing all day.

In our contract there's a particular clause concerning the company's "right to schedule".  If they need us to work on Christmas day, we work, but the pay is triple-time...go ;)...

  Sorry, I missed this one...

Was a relaxing weekend.  Even grew a beard.  My normal work schedule is ten-on, four-off with one extra day this time with the holiday.  We were gone Saturday, Sunday and part of Monday having made a trip to Monterey.  The rest was BBQs, beers and terrible martinis...

Nobody even noticed that I threw-up at one point...

  How was your  weekend..?

  groove ;) on...

Boring.  We didn't do anything or go anywhere.  My dad grilled stuff for dinner, but that's it.
