For everyone complaining about guest posting, why? Some of these guests are legit, and they only want to ask a question or confirm a fact. Why go through the hassle of registering for that? Besides, there is already like 4000 members who don't post, so why add more to that mix?

As for the freaks, well, what can I say? This IS the internet. If you see something objectionable, report it. If it's not offensive or it's something stupid, leave it alone or don't answer it.

I talked with PoP a bit while she wasn't weird about this whole Tarzan Boy thing and at the time she wasn't too happy with her marriage, and it seemed that TB decided to initiate the contact, not the other way around.  The guy was intelligent and funny but a bit unbalanced in my humble opinion.

Well at the time she was always posting about how happy her marriage was. I'm sorry but I must disagree with you, her posts were very suggestive to say the least. If he was unbalanced then it was even more of a reason not to flirt in such a full on fashion with him!  I believe in fidelity in a marriage/relationship and that's why I found her posts so uncomfortable.

I don't know the whole story and I'm sorry to say that I know neither of them as well as I thought I did.  Suffice it to say that both were a bit two-faced about the posting and the fling, but I guess she must have worked it out with the husband or something.  Call it a learning experience for everyone involved :D

I agree, I don't like guest posters. Most of them have an attitude and don't contribute anything useful to the board, or some members, not naming names, use guest posting to create multiple identites and talk with themselves which is quite disturbing.

Amen.

Especially that guy who uses an ellipsis as his "name". ::) Sometimes he says things that are okay; other times he can be downright annoying.

The only person who I've seen do that is Mr. Woops. Eac Zeffron, Sick Of Britney, Ashley Tisdale's A Cutie, Electrical Youth... c'mon, Woops, we know it's you. ::)

I don't do that anymore since it lead to ridicule  :P

And I don't talk to myself  and mostly post on different boards since I've felt out of place in this one.

Though still post in the board games once in a while and some in the '80's & 2000's board.

well you shouldn't; often times it's better to be just yourself. O0

For the record, the only time I posted as a guest after registering was when I had trouble logging in once.

Back on topic...I've seen a lot of weird threads started by the guests recently, some of which seemed like spam. Fortunately the mods deleted 'em.

You can tell when people stop posting as guests when you see an avatar.

I added a huge range of IP addresses that cover China and I think India.  It might slow it down.

Even if I disable guest posting, the spammers will just automate creating fake accounts, they were doing quite a bit of that on my WorcesterTalk website.

Avatars have nothing to do with what you look like unless you put your picture in your avatar.

Also, when you hover your cursor over the "email" link on a guest's post.....more often than not, it's not a real email address.  Is there some way for you to make them give a valid email address before they post?

How do you know where an IP adress belongs to? Does the first number pertain to a specific region?

And speaking of slowing down, I noticed the site was going ever so slow this morning...could that have been because of the guest spammers?

I couldn't help noticing that when you go to 'Who's online' it will list the guests as either 'reading' a topic or 'posting' in a topic, however if you go and look at the topic they are meant to have posted in there is never a guest post there..........

yeah...the older browsers don't display a lot of extended unicode characters. some of 'em even display kana (chinese/japanese chars) when a character is supposed to follow an apostrophe. ::)
