Subject: Extremely shallow moments

Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 12/11/06 at 9:09 pm

Did you ever have a time where you did an act that was extremely shallow of you?  Tell us about it.

I will mention one (but won't name names).  There was a member here that joined awhile ago...and when he posted a picture of himself, I realized that he looked a LOT like my ex-husband...so I stayed away from talking to him for that reason...then I discovered that he was a cool person...and that I acted very shallow in that particular situation.  Silly me! :D

It was me, huh?

Well, one time... I... Hmm... Honestly, nothing comes to mind, but I'm sure there's something. I'll post my story later, if I can think of it. :P

I have them all the time.  It's an unfortunate side to my perfectionist personality.....I tend to be overly critical and judgemental of people.  However some of the time, I'm right.  Which sucks sometimes because there have been instances where I didn't want to be right.

I am sort of that way too. I have always been a great judge of character, and sometimes I come off as being judgemental...but in reality, I am just being cautious.

Years ago in the days of Napster, I used to frequent the chatrooms.  This one guy in there always acted feminine, and naturally I thought he was a woman.  Turns out he was not, and he got all angry at me cause I thought he was.

Oh well.  He was an ass anyway ;D

Very. However, you didn't marry a porn star, so that's a plus.

You shouldn't feel like you were being shallow at all. He was being dishonest and trying to deceive you, so the hell with him.

Ooh, John. You look so good. So do I.

Way down deep, you're shallow
Superficial to the core
Beneath your surface, there's just more surface
And beneath that, even more

You've never had a deep thought
And I hope you never do
You're all I need
You're just my speed
I'm even shallower than you

Yes, you are.

You're not an iceberg, just a tip
So you can't rip the bottom off my ship

I feel so safe when you are nearby
Because I know there's less to you than meets the eye

And though you're oh so shallow
Truly dumb and kind of grazed

Compared to me, you're like some PHD
I'm so shallow that I'm slightly razed
Slightly razed

(The deeper you go, the less you will find)

Way down deep, we're shallow
Hollow as an old guitar

And considering that we're * so empty
It's amazing how full of it we are

At heart
At heart
We're both
We're both
So heartless
Yet we've pledged our hearts forever more

And we're sincere
Right down to our venier {sp}

Deep down we're shallow to the core

Deep down we're shallow
To the core

(this pool has no deep end; no lifeguard is needed)
(the island is lovely, but nobody lives there)

I like the poem, Cat.

I'm pretty shallow sometimes, I'll admit it.  I love to sit and watch people in airports or malls, and some of the things I think of...man, I even shock myself with my bitchyness.  What can you do?

It's a song-sung by John Forster & Christine Lavin.  John Forster wrote it.

I have the problem sometimes where if a noteable-looking person is rude to me, I sorta stereotype them.. if they're noteably unattractive, I assume they're a cocky bitch.. if they're noteably attractive, I assume they're an ARROGANT bitch.. but not cocky.. there's a difference (cocky being that you think you're attractive, but not)

It's nothing huge, usually just sometime I mutter to myself, but I've commented to some of the worse ones (more rude, not uglier or prettier)

Oh! OH!!! More shallow bastardry!

When I'm at work at McDonald's, I get real pissed at people who make massive orders. There are people (of all body shapes and such) that come in and order 3-4 sandwiches.. I'm not talking, like, single cheeseburgers, that's understandable.. but I see people come in, order 2 McChickens, a Quarter Pounder and a Filet, with fries and a drink, and eat it BY THEMSELVES. So as a result, any time I see one person make a large order, I get real mad, start making generalizations about them, etc. It's all just muttering to myself, but I still do it and don't exactly feel great about it.

It's worse if they're heavy, too.

Last weekend I saw someone I knew from primary school.  In fact we share a birthday so she is the exact same age as me.  I was pleased to note she looked quite a bit older than me and had some very noticable wrinkles!

I can relate. I didn't go to my reunion, but I saw pictures of it on our alumni website.....I couldn't believe how old some of them look! :o  And, every now and then I see someone out in the public that I graduated with...and the guys always have less hair and are fatter...and most of the women have packed on some pounds as well.

I've had my shallow moments that I regret. I am also a perfectionist about certain things and I have a very quick mind, so if someone is moving slower than myself, I tend to get impatient because I can generally move a lot faster and wish I could do it myself if they let me. I have to catch myself and just realise everyone has they're own pace of doing things and sometimes being slower can catch something you may not notice until it's too late.

And, like KKay mentioned, I sometimes don't read long paragraphs probably because I am more of a skimmer with those sorts of things.

Ok, I admit, I have my shallow moments-usually at the college Christmas party (which is this Saturday). I dress to the nines and if I say so myself, I look REAL GOOD!!!! I can "feel" eyes on me and I just lap it up-especially the dean of students. I know he is always staring at me. For Carlos' retirement party, I also dressed up (you can see how I looked in the Inthe00s photo album). As we were getting out of the car, one of Carlos' students congratulated him on his marriage and then I got out of the car. The look on the kid's face was so funny. His jaw dropped to the ground. So yeah, those are my shallow moments.

it seems he was being just as shallow, for getting mad at you for interpreting the persona he created they way you did.
