Subject: ALMOST Instant Karma=from Michelle

Written By: MLB on 01/21/07 at 5:25 pm

Ok. So for all of you not in the karma league just yet, here's a way to quickly get yes, INSTANT karma.
Post a bit of wisdom, inspirational message, philosophical commentary, or other notable quote others might like to read, include the author if possible please and the next time I am online I'll be doling out the Karma points, one for each worthy post.

So to begin here's a quote for nothing:

"Never give up believing in yourself. With God, you hold the power and talent to achieve all of your dreams.
Muhammad Ali
as a Foreword in Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul.

So one time for my high school honors physics class, we were supposed to build a physics demo to show off the awesome power of physics or something...so I designed a trebuchet, which is like a catapult except it relies on gravity and angular momentum rather than elasticity to toss a projectile.  They built one in England a few years back that tossed an old Volkswagen something like half a mile.  Anyway...

We had a friend who we jokingly referred to as our fearless leader, so one night we were cruising around and we decided to call him and say, "Hey, we're going to bring you a weapon so that you can conquer the world!"  He was, of course, thinking "whatever".  So we snuck back to my place, picked up the mini-trebuchet, and put it on his front yard.  He thought we had built it for him just then (as told the next morning), which was the most amusing part of the whole deal.

The moral of the story: never underestimate the power of physics.

"My friend drove off the other day,
Now he's gone and all they say,
Is you got to live 'cause life goes on...

But now I see I'm mortal, too,
I can't live my life like you,
Got to live it up, while life goes on.

And I think that it's all right,
That I do what I like,
'Cause that's the way I want to live.
it's how I give, and I'm still givin'...

And now I wonder 'bout my friend,
If he gave all he could give,
'Cause he lived his life like I live mine.

Got to make a plan,
Got to do what's right,
Can't run around in circles,
If you wanna build a life,
But I don't want to make a plan,
For a day far away,
While I'm young and while I'm able,
All I want to do is... "

-Song written by Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt after his friend Jason Relva died in a car accident in 1992.

Erin, Lie (Rice), Lorac, Mach!ne_he@d, and Belle-

You have each posted noteworthy things, and the Karamel Sutra has been delivered to you.

Karamel also to my new friend Michelle, for putting the boots on here, and collaborating with me on this new idea.

And now, I contribute my own 3 postings, as will be my usual, on this thread:

I actually live by both of them. Joseph Campbell was AMAZING! If you haven't read any of his "stuff" I HIGHLY recommend it. He did an interview with Bill Moyers called "The Power of Myth" that is on video. Incredible stuff.

what the hell is that quote supposed to mean, anyway? that's been rankling me for years. why is that movie so supposedly great?  yes, life, box of chocolates, forrest. so what? anything else? cuz if not i'm gonna head out.

i totally didn't get the whole forrest gump thing.

It means life is a bunch of random moments all thrown together.  When you open a box of chocolate, you don't know at first what you're getting until you bite into it....meaning, you don't know what life will throw at you until you stick yourself out there.

I can't believe I just analyzed that.

In deference to Hawk leaving us I felt it was better to change the thread's name. Tho I wll still keep up with it the best I can. Tho there may be a bit of a backlog on my side once my computer access leaves home with my sister :\'(.  I'll have to buy one of my own or go back to using the public library. :P
