Every one has to have a first time.  Mine was 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush (on vinyl - God, I'm old).  What was yours?

"Once Bitten" by Great White

I've told you before haven't I. The guy I used to play with, Kelly, used to hang out with them every day. He used to go on and on about Great White.. and it was like "Yeah, we're aware of them, now shuttup."

First thing I ever bought is hazy, but I believe it was a Deep Purple album. No idea which though.

The first CD I ever bought was the soundtrack to "Streets of Fire" which I found in a bargain bin at Music World in 1994

The first single I ever recall owning was the cassingle of "Too Hot" by Alanis (Morissette) in 1991

I don't know what "first" cassette (as that was the norm in the mid-late '80s) I purchased, but I think I requested a few and my mom purchased them. One I know I wanted and my mom bought was Whitney Houston's second album simply titled "Whitney!" in 1987. There were a few others, such as NKOTB, too. I also am sure I urged her to buy Paula Abdul's first album and also Debbie Gibson's first. I remember rotating those few albums quite often on my cassette player (and for your amusement, I had one of those "clear" cassette/radio players - kinda like those "clear" phones back in the day.) My first CD's were purchased in early 1992. I bought some cheap classical CD's, but later for my 10th birthday in May, I got KrisKross and the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack.

With me, this is sorta open-ended.

Like lots of you already know, my whole life has basically been around music, so I can remember (at least to an extent) my mom buying new or fairly current tapes in the then-present of, like 1985 or 1986. I couldn't possibly remember the first.

But me myself, with my own money?

When I was 10, I got three tapes at once with my birthday cash: (1) Eddie Money's Can't Hold Back (the one with "Take Me Home Tonight"; (2) Weird Al's original Greatest Hits, and (3) Billboard Top Hits - 1984 compilation.

I didn't buy CDs until 1998, and that was Chicago 17 and Steve Miller's Greatest Hits.

Yeah, I'm a dork. ;D

8-tracks aren't as dorky or stuck in the '70s as people think.

I first saw one in the early '90s at a flea market after my dad pointed it out to me. It made sense to me. Sure, nobody except someone really cheap would've still been actively using them by then, lol - but it was a recent enough "older technology" that it was in my grasp.

Do you know what sucked about 8 tracks...they had 4 programs that the music was on and sometimes the player had to switch from one program to another right in the middle of a song.  So you would hear the song start to fade.....click....then the song would fade back in.

I've always had a tendency to like ballads, so "I'll Be Loving You Forever" is a guilty pleasure (i.e. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be caught listening to it). ;D

Their dance stuff, especially when they tried to pass themselves off as tough guys, sounds pretty dated though, and I was never into it (although I don't dislike it per se). I do think ballads tend to age better than upbeat songs, too.

;D  Hey, I have some pretty "dorky" material like that myself. I remember I bought America's Greatest Hits when I was 14 years old (11 years ago) and one of my good friends was over and saw that, and I think she took it as being like American Anthems and stuff, not the actual group "America." That's when I knew I was such a nerd!

First record... must've been a 7". Not sure which one though...
could've been "Amico E (Inno dell'Amicizia)" by Dario Baldan & Caterina Caselli, or perhaps "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" by Information Society...or something by Depeche Mode. :-\\

Albums... I don't have that many (vinyls, that is), and I think most were given to me as a birthday present. I know I bought "Reconciled" by The Call, though.

CD albums...now that I know. The first CD album that I bought was "Raw Like Sushi" by Neneh Cherry. 8)

CD singles.... blurry again. Most likely something by Depeche Mode, possibly "It's Called A Heart". I think I got hooked on them around that time.

And then there's 12"... I'm almost sure it was "(Hey You) The Rocksteady Crew" by the Rock Steady Crew.
