I took the kids to school this morning, came home and cleaned my bathroom and waited for the plumber to fix a leak in the downstairs bathrrom then I clean up after him.  I did some other stuff around the house.

A little later I'll get the kids and then run to the grocery store.

It's going to be in the mid 80's today so I'm sure the kids will want to play on the water slide this after noon.

How was the Cirque Du Soleil to the Beatles Love? I bought 3 of the CDs for Christmas for me and the girls and it's amazing, so I bet the show was awesome!

Today I went to buy some flowers to plant, but didn't really find anything I liked, so just ended up buying 2 ink cartridges, then when I got home I walked down the lane next to my house to find some interesting big rocks to put in my flower gardens.

The hair I get done every month (gotta keep those gray's covered up  ;D ;D ) and next week we have a retirement party to go to. I went through my closet and most of the spring/summer dresses I have are either too tight or too loose (my weight has gone up and down in the last few years) so I figured it was time for some new NICE clothes. Hopefully, next week, Hubby will drop me off at the mall and I can do some real damage.  ;D ;D ;D

the show was great, especially good if you're a maniacal Beatles fan. I want to see it again soon. They play most of the music from the new Beatles Love cd and a little bit more.

Actually, it was first piece of clothing I have bought in such a long, long time.

Today, we are going to a briefing about some heath insurance to see if it is worth our while to sign up for it. Then tonight, we MAY (or may not) go to an auction. Haven't decided yet.

This is mainly for Carlos because I am already covered under the V.A. He has insurance through his work which will end when he hits medicare age so we are going to see if this is worth it for us.

I think its a fairly recent introduction.  There are two in the town where I live: one opened less than a year ago, the other has probably been open about three years I think.  I expect they have been in the bigger cities for longer than that.

That's gotta be a real pain for the couple!  It's something I've never considered myself before, since I'm only in my mid-30's.  In some cases that could leave one spouse insured, and the other not.

I have another q, Spaceace, since you seem to know this stuff.  Do you know if there are there preexisting condition limitations when a person gets on Medicare?  Meaning if they had the condition b4 they reached that age...tough luck, Medicare wouldn't cover it?

Another thing is when both spouses hit the age where they can  get medicare and Social Security benefits are usually based on the person with the higher income.  My Mom was a teacher and my Dad was an Insurance executive.  My mom's benefits are based on my Dad's salary while he was working.  They don't take into consideration my Mom's income. :P

I don't know of any.  In fact some people end up on disability (SSDI) which can include Medicare Part A and B for preexisting conditions.  Usually in those cases the condition has worsened to the point of where a person can't work.

One thing I ended up NOT doing yesterday was getting my hair cut. When I got to the salon yesterday, the receptionist told me that my hairstylist was having car trouble; the receptionist even tried calling me yesterday morning, but apparently she had my phone # written down incorrectly. So I didn't know until I got there. So then I had to reschedule my haircut appointment for next Wednesday morning.

Well...Vaughn and I stopped at some rummage sales at a few local churches today...then went shopping for a bit. Then...I started digging out the old stones in the front yard (we are doing some landscaping)....then Chris came home and we rode over to my parents so that he could borrow some lawn tools...then when we came home he continued digging only to stumble onto the remains of the old sidewalk...so he spent the rest of the late afternoon using a sledgehammer on it...what a pain.  I cooked on the grill and Vaughn and I played until it was time to put him to bed.

He's only 34...dang.  I didn't realize that we were elderly yet. ;D  Mayweather is 30...I think.

I don't know how they score those fights, but I really thought it could have gone either way.  Oscar was more aggressive throughout the fight and threw more punches.  Mayweather was more defensive and threw fewer punches, but was more accurate when he did throw a punch.

I surely didn't mean to insinuate that 34 is ederly, just not spry enough for the rigors of top level boxing, in my estimation. I'm sure these pugilists got big paychecks for the fight.

I tossed a few pitches earlier, with the radar and the big strike mat (Have you ever seen one? It's like a mattress up against the wall and it's full of sensors that record information about what you've been throwing.) I didn't embaress myself like I thought I would., I was throwing around 82-84MPH and had some decent accuracy going on (which is uncommon, I'm usually all over the place.) If I'm gonna play in the fall then I need to build my velocity back up to 88-90 which I don't know if I'll be able to do, but if I can I think I'll do pretty good and have some fun come the fall.

holiday weekend for us here.  We went to South Wales to stay with the mother-in-law partly because she lives about an hours drive away from what we really wanted to do!  Saturday was the individual races for the British Orienteering Championship.  The weather was lovely which helped because I did not have a good run.  On Sunday it was the relay races.  I didn't run but my husbands team came in 5th overall which was good.  Yesterday the weather wasn't so good so we took m-i-l to a couple of places looking at replacement cloakroom stuff, to some shops that has a playground nearby so the kids could burn off some energy and then we went somewhere for lunch.  We got home last night just in time to put the kids to bed at their usual time.

I opened it, and it had 3 books inside. I guess when I paid for a Medical Assisting course last week, they sent an order of the three textbooks I'd need for the class. For some reason, I never recieved a notice of how or when I'd get these books, just that what I'd paid to reserve my seat in the class would be my payment also for my textbooks. So, there they were. I skimmed through them and boy, I'm getting scared!! SO much to learn!

;D You've got beastly size so I see why you hurl the baseball at high velocity. when you mentioned not being able to hit a curve, I thought of Cerrano , the voodoo player from the movie Major league and his idol statue Jobu.  I can hit as hard and far as some of the bigger players, for a being a little fella, 5'7" 160, and my defense is solid. my hitting is all technique, timing, rhythm, weight shift, very much like sex, plus i have a couple of  $300 bats that are nicknamed cheater bats because they give the hitter extra pop & distance, at least 30 feet more!  thanks for the HR kudos, no pizza, just high fives and it was funny because I was signaled by both the 3rd & 1st base coach to try to hit it out & I tattooed the first pitch over the left field fence.  that was cool  8) good to hear you're out having fun, if you lived around here, you could play on one of my teams.

I wouldn't wanna play against you Mike, you'd either knock one out, or I'd accidentally bean you!  ;D

I really, REALLY need to do some work on my control. It's never been great.. ok.. it's always been poor, so I need to work on that and the only way to do that is to throw more. Which is ok, it's fun.

Yeah, technique is the key always.. and with baseball as well.. haha, ok..ok.. but yeah, it's impressive that you can do that as a smaller guy. $300 for a bat! Jeez!

getting beaned hurts, dammit, I'd have to charge the mound  ;D  yeah, you need control so you don't kill somebody or disable them. $300 is the retail rate for the best & hottest bats, but I have friends that get them free from their team and they sometimes sell extras to us lower division players, but i have 4 of those bats so I don't need to buy anymore. If i had you're size, I'd be a very dangerous hitter.

I'll bet. Sometimes I really wish I'd been born in the US instead of moving here. I think maybe with coaching I could be a real good pitcher. I've certainly got the size to get great velocity behind the ball and maybe I could have got a free ride or something doing that, but alas, it's a bit late now.

I couldn't warrant spending $300 on some wood.. ugh.. that's insane! Although I guess the $300 bats are the aluminum ones?

where are you, in England? with coaching and daily training you could have had a baseball card Davey. aluminum is all but gone now and for awhile the high tech alloys were the rave, since 2003, Composite bats are the ticket, made from graphite, glass, resin fibers to create a sort of plastic bat that out performs anything previously used. I have a couple friends that still swing aluminum alloy bats, but the majority of us use the new ones and there is a noticable difference.   hey, you could be a walk on at college when you go back to school.  :)

I took Chris out to dinner at Smokey Bones....then we went to drive golf balls, and played a round of mini golf (which I kicked his arse)!! LOL! ;D :D

Chris has been playing golf for a few years now...I didn't realize how good he is getting, because it has been sometime since we've gone to drive golfballs...man, can he hit that ball now..I'm so proud of him. :)  He wants to teach me how to play real golf now....so I think I will take him up on his offer. :)

I last played golf last July, two days before my birthday. It took me several shots to get to various holes, but just being out there and whacking the ball was good activity. :)

You are so right...it's all about having a good time. Just like when I go bowling. I haven't bowled in almost 7 years, but I do like to try to avoid gutter balls. If I don't do something for a while, then I tend to "lose it". However, if I only bowl, say...a 56, then that's ok for me. For the record, I've only hit the triple digits in bowling once, and that was in July 1999, when I bowled 109.

I'm not good at bowling either...the best I've ever scored was like maybe 115 or so....but I have fun anyway. I always thought it would be cool to be on a bowling league...complete with the retro 50's bowling shirts, etc. :D

My mom bowled a lot in high school (late 60's) with her friends... and in the early to mid-80's, when I was a little kid, she tried her hand at bowling again. Her best game ever was a 246, which she'll probably never be able to come close to again, due to a permanently dislocated bone in her wrist (caused by a 1989 roller skating accident).

In the late 90's, I had a friend who was on a bowling league, and he bowled quite well...but he sadly died of a seizure in October 2001 at age 19. :\'(

325 ain't bad. That'd be out in close right/left in a lot of parks.

Last time I actually hit one out in a game was about 3 years ago and it must have been more than 360 which is good.

My man Pete is the real hitter though, I guess more like you, he's a contact guy. He's only 5'9 but he's about 205 so he can get a lot of power, I bet he'd benefit from one of those cheaters bats.  ;D

Composite bats are the ticket, made from graphite, glass, resin fibers to create a sort of plastic bat that out performs anything previously used. I have a couple friends that still swing aluminum alloy bats, but the majority of us use the new ones and there is a noticable difference.

But does it have that beautiful Louisville Slugger crack, when it connects to the ball.  It is one of those sounds that just goes to the center of my heart, like the thump of a Harley, there isn't anything to compare.    :)

There was a time when I was great at Bowling and I scored a 185 on my league but when I wound up twisted my hamstring in 2002,I didn't do so good so I sucked and about a year later I quit bowling leagues altogether and now I just bowl for fun now and retired my ball and bag forever.

Damn straight. Those metal bats always used to have that pansy azz little *ping*, I never cared for that. Kind of like if there wasn't a *thwunk* when the ball hit the catchers glove.

Jeez!
If I could combine you & my oldest, you'd be the best pitcher of all time.  He's got the accuracy, but not the oomph behind it.  Although, now that he's finally figuring out to use his legs, he's getting more speed, but losing a little of the accuracy.

Oh, and I've hit 3 "over the fence" homers in softball....of course, that was 20+ years ago and I was 5'6" and a whopping 90-95 lbs :o  I did label a couple into right/center at the oldest's baseball practice a few weeks ago....the head coach was joking that they'd "tape me down" and put me in the lineup ;D

Same here.  In my son's league, they won't allow wooden bats, but I always used one when I played softball....it had been my dad's and was older than I was....god, I could whack a ball with that baby 8)

I remember ages ago we discussed him and his lack of velocity, but that just improves as you add bulk. I threw again this morning and topped out at 85 but once again, there was a lot of spraying the ball about. Man, that's getting annoying, no matter what I do, I can't put it where I want it. Last night I was messing around with a curve and got some sick breaks going which is always cool, but then again, as soon as you (or at least I) try and throw breaking balls.. it's gonna go wherever the hell it wants.  ;D

You're the f***in hittin mom, I remember you saying that before.

the designers of the new composite bats have taken that into consideration and many of the bats, even some of the aluminum alloy bats have a sound that sounds similar to the crack of a wooden bat against ball. but nothing sounds quite like the real thing.  8)

This is one provided by Philip a couple of years ago and is from the tea towel he mentions ^

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

I basically understand as follows.

There are a set number of overs (which are more like innings) and a set number of innings (which are more like games) and with this set number of overs the bowler (pitcher) has to record 9 outs which is the whole team (Unless this deviates sometimes as well) the 9 players must score as many runs as possible before the bowler records all 9 outs.

That's about it except in some games there isn't a set number of overs, you just keep going until all of the team is out.  That's why you can sometimes get drawn games because the time runs out before all the players are out.  In the big games they usually play two innings per team

There is for each style of game.  It's like with football.  Some games are 'allowed' to end in a draw, others have to have 15 minutes each way, others 'golden goal' or penalty shoot out etc.  As long as you know it doesn't matter does it

There is for each style of game.  It's like with football.  Some games are 'allowed' to end in a draw, others have to have 15 minutes each way, others 'golden goal' or penalty shoot out etc.  As long as you know it doesn't matter does it

Fair point. I went to a 20-20 game a few years ago, that was suprisingly good fun.

When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

today I went to work, but my right eye was bugging me, so I went to my eye doctor and she found inverted eyelashes poking right into my eye and she plucked them. This is the 4th time I've gone in for this condition.

Went yard sailing. A town not too far from us had their town-wide yard sale-we must have hit about 20 of them (and that only scratched the surface of how many there were). Then we went out to eat. I was a bit put off at the restaurant because on their place mats it said, "In loving memory of_______" and it listed my friend who passed away in Feb.  :\'( :\'(  So yeah, I thought about her throughout lunch. (Her son does the place mats which is why her name was there.)

You can teach me then! I've never been able to rollerblade, only ice skates seem to work for me.  :(

I went down to the pitching cages again today and topped out at 85 again, whilst that's some real good velocity, I know to have any chance of doing anything in the fall I've got to get that up to 90 because my accuracy is poor I really have to just rely on throwing good fastballs.

I had the same feeling when I was teaching The Boy to play hockey. He was in a roller hockey league which

Had lunch with the family today at our favorite Chinese restaurant, the occasion was to celebrate Julie's 18th & her cousins 14th birthdays & to do early Mother's Day thing for my MIL. as I'm at the table enjoying my Kung Pao three combo with steamed rice, I hear music playing & I look at Diane & ask her " Do you hear that?  That's my theme song.  *Take It Easy by The Eagles. she's like. "oh yeah I hear it" it made me smile to hear them playing that at the restaurant.  so then we did that and came home and then I went back out to get some Mother's Day cards from me & Julie and cleaned up the house a little and now chilling here with all you fine people.  8)

I tend to lag behind  ::) afterwards, we took Diane out for lunch at the Happy Sashimi for sushi & tempura & it was very good, came home, mowed front/back lawns, pruned camelia bushes, pulled weeds, now I'm enjoying big tall diet coke on the rocks but I'm going out to return some dvds, then to grocery store, then pick up a pizza for Julie. so it's nice just to sit still for a bit.

That was cool and I was impressed.  I have to admit I was worried that they were going to be sucky neighbors too because they never even tried to talk to us before today and they have kids the same age as ours.  I'm glad I was wrong.

Because of the money I make when I am working I actually get more money in unemployment than I would taking a temp job, it is scaled to your earnings. In order to get work I go to the union hall and sit around and hope for a call. It isn't so bad, there are many there doing the same thing, and when you work in construction, if you are smart, you plan for times of layoff, I have a savings account, to supplement what I get in unemployment, just for that purpose.  The problem is that the economy, no matter what they want to tell you, is in serious trouble.  When they count unemployed people they only count those collecting unemployment benefits, they don't count the people who have run out of unemployment benefits and are living off of their savings.  That won't happen to me for quite a while and I'm not real worried at the moment.  But looking around at some of the guys gives me pause.

This is the phase kids go through which parents have to figure out how to deal with in order that they don't develop awful personalities. This is the phase they go through when you begin to wonder what was in your mind when you decided to have kids.  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/11/BangHead.gif

What's Jook? ???
it's a soup Howard, Jook is a Chinese soup made with rice & whatever kind of meat or flavoring one likes. my father in law is Chinese & he told me how to make his version, a simple, yet delicious recipe. I use turkey necks & long grain white rice & chicken bouillon. I cook it on a slow boil for about 3-4 hours until the necks are completely cooked, then I remove them & cut up the neck meat & by this time the rice is well cooked & has broken down to almost a porridgy consistency, & I make mine more soupy and not too thick. it's really good with the rice and turkey. I've brought some to work & my friends crave it  ;) Julie is the supreme taste tester. If she likes it, then i know it came out good.

Yeah, but it's only about 20 minutes away from where I live and it's much cheaper than going to regular stores, so it ends up making sense.

Plus unless you go to Global Market you can't get half the stuff you can at the base.

Ours is called the Beater Yard. I found a 1980 Camaro with 58K on the clock for $5950. I left the guy a note asking him if I could give it a test and see if there were any problems with it. I had my cousin Rick's Camaro for 6 months whilst he was on detail in California and I just loved it! I'd love to own my very own one even if it is 20-25 years old. To be honest, I doubt I'll buy this one, the body work and interior were in great condition and the mileage is reasonably low, which leads me to believe there is a serious fault with the vehicle somewhere. Still, I'll see if the guy will let me take it out and then I'll check it over.

There is so much to do in DC.  It would take at least a very busy week to see it all.  We stopped in there for a day last December in hopes to see a lot of stuff, but we were only able to go to a couple places.  The rest were drive by looking only.

I just got back from coaching my oldest's baseball game....we won 8)  Although, the other coach was a PITA....we alerted the ump to one of their pitcher's balking so they tried to say that our pitcher was balking because his foot was ON TOP of the rubber when he pitched (then tried to say that our ump warned one of their pitchers in our previous game for doing that when he was actually starting his windup from BEHIND the rubber, THEN standing on the rubber to pitch) ::)

You know, the long rectangular thing on the pitcher's mound that the pitcher has to be in contact with when he pitches, it's called a rubber (though the kids crack up every time it's mentioned, they're 11-12 ::))  I think they named it that on purpose so if someone asks a baseball player if he's using a rubber, he can say yes (if he's a pitcher ;)) ;D

There is so much to do in DC.  It would take at least a very busy week to see it all.  We stopped in there for a day last December in hopes to see a lot of stuff, but we were only able to go to a couple places.  The rest were drive by looking only.

You are so right Chrissy, I only had an hour before the bus came to pick us up. I was only able to see
a limited number of exhibits in the Smithsonian. I was half tempted to tell them to leave me, I'll take a
train home. I have to go back, I really want to visit the Vietnam War Memorial, as well as all the other
museums.

Vietnam, Korean, WWII, and Iwo Jima memorials are the only ones that I really care to see.  I would enjoy the WWI memorial if it was more out in the open.  It seems like the memorial is the same as the war, important but forgotten.  I enjoy the Jefferson Memorial just because of who he was.  The Lincoln is cool, but it seems a bit much for me.

The Air and Space Museum is really cool.  If you get a chance, the holocaust museum is a must see, but be prepared to be depressed for awhile.  It is well done, but very sad.  There is just too much in the American History museum, its almost like sensory overload.

I live around 11 miles away from D.C. and only go there when people come to visit.  LoL.

So, here I am in Boston thinking how great it would be to be able to live so close to DC see all that stuff,  then I remembered that here we have the "Freedom Trail" that I walked, once, at age nine.  There are a couple of places I have been, once or twice.  Seems you have to be from somewhere else to appreciate the full value of what you live next door to.

It is an unbelieveable experience if you get the chance, Jacks.  Looking at all those names, seeing the pictures, etc. left by loved ones.  Very powerful, very moving, very emotional.  They were adding a name when my daughter was there--she got to see how they did it, but from a slight distance because CNN had it roped off.

Micah got to see Viet Nam, Korean, WWII, Iwo Jima, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt memorials in addition to the A&S Museum which she loved.  She, too, was overwhelmed and saddened by the Holocause Museum as was I when I went.  It is a hard place to be.  I lit a candle.  When she went, she got an Identification booklet of someone who went through it.  I didn't get to see as much as I wanted to, because I only had 7 hours to work with.

the vietnam memorial will make you cry, unless you got ice water in your veins. seeing all those names in front of you, it's overwhelming.

i read somewhere how long the wall would be if it had the names of all the vietnamese who died in that war on it. it basically would have been something like a mile long.

Yep, my Dad said it was really the only thing in D.C. that truely affected him.  His cousins name is up there on the wall.  Right around the middle where it is biggest during the years of 1968 - 69 I believe.  That is where the war really turned for the worse.  Two of his cousins went, both brothers, bot Marines.  The one who died served two tours as a Marine, then went back as a Green Beret, where a land mine got him.  the 2nd is basically a recluse from society.  All those names affect someone in someway.  Its amazing.  Interesting too, the design was initially critized, but when it was first opened and all the vietnam vets went to see it, they were overwhelmed with emotion.  I found out about that in a book I read about Chesty Puller's son.

Wonder how big the Afghan/Iraq War and War on Terror memorial will be?

Talking about memorials, did you know that in Buenos Aires, the Falklands war memorial is right next to a replica of Big Ben that the British Government gave to the Argies in like 1950 or something.  ;D

My Uncle's name is on there.  He was killed before I was born.  When I was 9 I left a Beach Boys tape and a box of Twinkes near his name.  I heard the Park Service keeps and catalogs all gifts left at the memorial.

The Afghan/Iraq War and War on Terror memorial will probably not be built for quite a long time.  Remember all the political upheaval and red-tape involved with the Vietnam Memorial?

It wasn't so much the design, it was the designer.  A large faction objected because Maya Lin, the designer, is an Asian American.  It didn't matter to them that she was born in Ohio and was attending Yale at the time. Racism, pure and simple.  The were pissed that an Asian would get the contract. Luckily the design committee held firm.

Carlos & I went to the Vietnam Memorial a long time ago. I used to wear a POW bracelet (until it broke) and I found they guy's name (Michael Joseph Blassie) on the wall and took a pic. Unfortunately, my camera wasn't working at the time and didn't realize that all the pics I took on that trip didn't come out.  :\'(  Anyway, I found out a few years later that Michael Joseph Blassie was the guy who was buried in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington (we did go to see that, too on that trip-my step-father is buried in Arlington). I sent the bracelet (in two pieces) to his mother.

Anyway, back to the topic. We went to see Carlos' daughter graduate with her R.N. There was a pinning ceremony that we went to and then we skipped out on the commencement. They really didn't have things very coordinated. His daughter said if she knew, she would have invited other people to the earlier one and skipped out on the later one. What was really interesting was she invited her ex-mother-in-law, ex-sister-in-law and her husband-but her ex husband was no where to be seen. I got to see 2 of my step-daughters as well as granddaughter #1 who is always a doll. The problem I have with functions like this is dealing with Carlos' ex and her husband. They have never been anything but nice to me but I am still very uncomfortable around them (but I do like her ex-in-laws and it was great to see them, if only for a few minutes).

You remind me of the memorial to the American Airmen who fought in WWII here in the U.K. It's at the Imperial War Museum airfield at Duxford. You have to walk up this long curving path and as it curves up it has these glass panels on each side that increase in height. They are beautifully etched with tiny airplanes. It's not until you get to the top that a sign tells you each plane represents an airman lost, you turn and look behind you again at these hundreds of thousands of planes and it's a sobering moment.

anyways, stayed home trying to get over this darn cold, slept in, did not go to church, Lady Di brought me a burrito home for lunch & I just cooked some rice pilaf and steaks for dinner. I don't know why Lady Di wants to ruin it with her "what kind of vegetables should I make"? meat & rice is just fine.

We used to travel quite a bit together, but after she went through her divorce a few years back, we haven't as much, and I definitely missed it.  My sister did treat me to a trip to Las Vegas last year, and we had such a fantastic time, and undoubtedly we will have a magnficent time in New York City together. It's a good thing we are both culture vultures and shopaholics, as we both intend on hitting all of the big museums and all of the great department stores! I was delighted to find a flat to rent in the East Village for the duration of our stay, as the E. Village is such a cozy part of The City. So, until I return, everyone take good care and I will tell you all about it once I get back! Ciao!

Throw some used coffee grounds in the hole when you plant it.....they like the acid.

Today, I've made a bunch of phone calls, a German chocolate sauerkraut cake for the oldest's Germany project today, laundry and a little bit of housecleaning.  When my brother gets here, we're going to go pick up my parents' van so I can get it cleaned up and sold since neither of them can drive it  :\'(

Off topic: On our 8th grade trip, there was a girl in my class whose father's name is on the wall.  He was killed shortly before she was born.  About 5 of us were looking for his name and I found it, then we all took pictures of her pointing at her father's name.  I did a "pencil rub" of the name and framed it with a picture of her in front of it and gave it to her for her birthday that year.  It was one of the most moving experiences of my life (followed closely by my trip to the concentration camp in Germany where another friend's family was held).

Yours or Hers?
no question about it. Hers!

Today I will do a bit of yard work, cut the lawn, plant the blackberry plant, and I bought a rose called "Yellow Submarine"-well how could I pass it up?   :)

http://www.willowaynurseries.com/Images/ee_yellow_submarine.jpg
beautiful rose Danoota and with the flower's name,  you couldn't pass that up . that's cool. We have one rose bush that Diane was given, I planted it and worried it was gonna die but it's taken root and is flourishing. good luck.

So, tomorrow is the big day... my trip to New York City. I'm looking forward to this trip and spending some time with my big sister. Ciao!
wow, have fun and have a sandwich at the Carnigie deli on 51st, and get some Nathans hotdogs too.  ;D

Throw some used coffee grounds in the hole when you plant it.....they like the acid.

Also if you eat bananas chop up the peel and scatter it around the bottom of the rose bus they love the potassium.

I was wondering if anyone else saw the Venus Moon conjunction in the early night time sky last night. It was amazing. With the Gemini constellation stars above the moon and Venus below, it was looking at something out of a sci-fi movie.

We saw that too.  IT was beautiful and unusual.  We were wondering what planet it was that looked so close to the moon.

it was very unusual and just chance that I happened to step outside and saw it. I went online to find out what planet and they said Venus and Venus is still very bright and visible and the 2 top stars of Gemini are directly above. I wish I hada good camera, it was so clear and rare. I'm glad you got to view it.  :)

I have had a bit of experience in this department and, wierd as it seems, you're better off with a break as opposed to a sprain(if you are on the younger side of 50).  A break will heal and the bone will be stronger because of the way it knits itself back together, but a sprain or torn ligament, well they get better but the damage is permanent.  ( I say this as I hobble on the sprained foot from January and await the orthopedist appointment on Friday)

well, it's slow pitch so you have lots of time to see it, but right now at this time of the year, as a batter you're looking directly into the setting sun. I mean the sun is right behind the pitcher and you can not see for about 4 innings. it's horrible, even the cather and umpire have to hold their hands up to block out the sun. otherwise, I'm leadoff because I get on base a lot and score runs, and also have enough pop in my bat to go deep if the chance arises. slow pitch is fun because I can hit the ball  ;D

I'm hoping Pete charged the mound and tackled you  ;D  Hitting a batter means he 's on base and can score a run, so yeah, you don't wanna just be puttin guys on base unless there's some jerk that deserves it, then the coach can bring you in to plunk him, because you like doing things like that  ;D

Yesterday: SPRING FLING!!!! We had more people here than ever. What was really nice was my niece who said she wasn't coming, showed up with several people in tow. Our part of it was the best ever but the town's was disappointing. I didn't really do the park (except to go get syrup) and they had less vendors than they usually have. The parade was smaller than it usually is and the library didn't have their sale like they usually do (it will be on June 9th). But, with all our company, it was GREAT. I'm sure next year will be better, too. Here what started with only 5 of us (one of my best friends and her 2 boys plus Carlos and me) to a MAJOR party. It just grows every year.

Today: A quiet day. My step-daughter stayed the night and we said good-bye to her today.  :\'( Someone stopped by to pick up his stuff that he left yesterday. Other than that, trying to recuperate. lol. I didn't sleep well last night so I'm having a hard time today. Will probably take a nap.

Ran the sprinklers on the lawn for a couple of hours and will probably mow the grass later today (I know, counterproductive, but it is starting to look kinda' brownish), then water some more tonight.  Our town has a watering schedule from 6-9 am & 6-9 pm on odd/even days and it hasn't really rained enough to keep it green so I get to run up the water bill ::)

Now, I'm doing laundry so the oldest has a clean uniform for baseball tonight.  I also need to do some cleaning around the house since the MIL is coming up this week.....my FIL might be coming as well, which means they will only be here for a few hours on Thursday (since he refuses to sleep anywhere except his own bed).....if it's just my MIL, she will probably come up Wed afternoon, go to the middle guy's baseball game Wed night, littlest one's kindergarten graduation on Thursday, oldest's baseball game on Thursday night, then go home on Friday.  It will be really nice if she comes alone because I have to coach Thursday night so she can watch the other 2 while I'm being "the coolest mom in the world" :)

Well, part of the reason I'm putting off my shower is that I have to wait for UPS to come. They're supposed to deliver something at some point today, but we don't know what time. So if I took my shower right now, they just might show up while I'm drying myself off. They always come when you least expect it. :o

that's true..

and it's always the day that the ugly substitute delivery man is on the job.

It's been one of those days.

First of, I woke up early, which always sucks.

Today I updated my SSQ-I Certificate, which meant I went on a dull course which was really really hard work, physically and mentally. Lots of bollocks as well. Plus it rained.. and was 85 degrees.. a humid.  :(

Anyway, I get in the car after I'm done with that, open the glove box, pull out my phone and I have a billion voicemail messages. My Grandfather was sent to the emergency room, there's something majorly wrong with his kidney. So I do about 95 all the way to hospital, which is about 25 miles away (I went around a highway ramp at 75 and actually had the wheels smoking  :-[) get there, find out I can't see him, they explain what the deal is, I talk to a doctor.. ok, all is cool.

I go and get some dinner with my friend Patrick who lives in the area.

I come back an hour later, see my Grandfather, he dosen't know what they're going to do but the basic emergency has been dealt with (all medical crap, I don't understand it) so by now it's about 20 past 9, I get on the highway to go home. I'm just going across the Poplar Street Bridge (Voted worst intersection in the mid-west) and I'm moving over a lane to get off, somebody comes from nowhere at.. roughly twice the speed limit (yeah yeah I know I was speeding earlier, but I don't cut people up!) as I'm going in to their lane, I swerve one way, they swerve the other. They spin, I brake, cut the wheel hard.. end up almost facing the central reservation, pull it back around, jam on the brakes, skiiiiiiiiiiiiiid, cut it the other way.. end up facing the exit ramp... calmly go on my way.  ;D :o

It was pretty f**kin scary, especially seeing as I was over the Mississippi at the time and all that seperates the vehicle from the water is a bit of concrete.

So, that was my day.

I was going to see my cousin this evening, but couldn't.

Oh well, she wont die.

Seeing as I've passed 3 driving tests in the past year... I think you're safe.

I had to do my British one again, my Missouri one expired and they made me do it again (I thought you only had to do the written portion again! azzholes) and I did my Illinois one the other day.

I just want to be able to honk at everybody, if you do that here... well, we have concealed carry.  ;D

Of course I wanted to make sure he was ok! He's ok now I think, they think he has some sort of kidney infection and stuff but it's nothing that's too bad and they're clearing it all up.

I was incredibly impressed with my skills, I thought for sure I was going off the bridge.

I hope it was a good visit Ash. I got a call today confirming a dental appt tomorrow morning which I don't recall setting up. I always try to set up Tuesday, Wed, or Thurs appts. so I had to postpone & don't even know what I'm supposed to be going in for. anyways, I know a trip to the dentist can be stressful, but if you have a good one, they can help you get past that. I'm having work done as I can. Diane & Julie have awesome darn near perfect teeth, but I need some work, but I'm getting it done as quickly as possible.
