I'm enjoying every day of my last few months of being 39.  Maybe I will do 39 the sequel next year.  ;)

Turning 40 doesn't really bother me because strangers often mistake me for one of my daughter's friends.  Of course, since she looks older than 17, so they think she is in college already.  But being mistaken for a college co-ed isn't all bad.  :)

-Which makes me......ummmm, errrr........32, on July 14th.

Subject: Re: age?

I think the basis for 40 being "the new 30" is just that people tend to act and look about a quarter younger than their actual age. That formula actually works for pretty much anyone, especially pop culture figures or more youthful types.

Alot of 30 year olds seem early 20ish. 50 year olds sometimes seem 35 or late 30s.

I'm a weird mix of both and have always been like that - like if you mixed a 12-year old personality with a 40-year old's way of communicating or looking at the world, lol.

^I think so. ;)

In all seriousness, people sometimes put too much emphasis on that stuff. When it comes to your own personality or tastes, it's really just a number. Most of my family seems pretty youngish for their ages, so that always seemed "normal" to me.

For instance, my mom's a 1954er and in alot of ways was like an older sister to me. If I saw someone else around that age who acted more typical (like someone on TV, or even a teacher or a friend's parent), I'd think Geez you seem so old without realizing it was actually more the other way around. ;D

^ Oh, that's cool. Once I got to be around 14 and a half and sorta on the adult side of puberty, people usually thought I was my mom's "younger brother" (I look nothing like my dad, lol). I've actually assumed alot of mother and daughters were sisters/cousins/friends myself.

I'm 25 and three quarters now, and most people think I'm about 19 to 22. I used to hate being given a kids' menu when I was 12, but now I'm cool with it.

I stopped eating off the kids' menu when I was 11. Mostly because the portions on it were way too small, and I was a big eater. I would always ask for the regular menu. By the time I was 13, I think they figured out that I might've been too old for it, considering that I was already taller than my mom, who is 5' 1" tall.

It's sort of humorous now, but I used to despise when my parents tried to get me into a movie for a "kid's" price when I was 12 or even 13 because I wanted to be older and hated the kid image. I didn't want to order off kids' menus (I felt so grown-up then, lol), but I'm no longer offended by people who mistake me for being a younger guy.

I began passing up my mom when I was 12. I first noticed I was taller than her on July 2, 1993----nine days before my 13th birthday. That's just over half my life ago!

I think I may have stopped "growing", per se, at age 16. I have been 5-10 for the past 10+ years, the exact same height as my dad.

I tend to be offended when people underestimate my age, especially by five or more years. I'm almost 27, but I don't really look it, per se. :-\\ I'm with you on the "older, non-kid" image; when I was younger, I wanted to fit in amongst people in my age group. However there were some "kid" qualities that stuck with me for a while, so...what can I say?

Growing up, I was always the youngest-not just in my family but who I hung out with, at work, etc. etc. (Well, either the youngest or the same age.) Then one day, I discovered there were a lot of people YOUNGER than I was.  :o :o :o  The funny thing is, when my mother was my age, I thought she was OLD. But I don't feel old-I don't really feel young either. I feel youngish but old enough to have the wisdom that I didn't have 20 years ago.

You just reminded me of one time when just my mom and I went to the movies.  I had JUST gotten my hair cut and everyone told me that I looked older (which was a good thing at age 15 or so).  We told the woman what movie we were seeing and she just stared at me for about 5 mins.  Finally she asked me how old I was because she wasn't sure if I qualified for the child rate (12 & under).  My mom and I just laughed.  I told her that if she wanted to give me the child rate to go ahead (I had no problem saving my mom a couple dollars) but then I looked at my mom and said that I guessed that meant that my haircut didn't make me look older after all.

Oh, so she thought you could've potentially been under 12 when you were 15? I probably would've been casually offended if that had been me, lol. I guess it's funny later on when you can look back on it, though.

I used to not understand why my parents would try and get away with getting me into movies or restaurants at the "kid" rate just to save a few dollars. Like, we went to see a movie six days before my 12th birthday in 1993, and I was like "Just say I'm over 12!" lol.  But once I started working or got to the point where I was the one paying for most of my stuff (like 15+), then I understood exactly what they meant! ;)
