same here, really. I cannot believe how fast this summer is going? When do your kids start school? Vaughn has kindergarten orientation starting August 13th. They go an entire week before the older kids start. He's really excited...and so am I. :D ;D

I had a good afternoon out with my Dad. They had a sale on at the garden centre we went too, it has a gift shop as well. I spent the princely sum of £13.49 and when I got home I added up what I would have spent if I had bought everything full price (a favourite pass time ;D) It would have cost £57.00 result! 8)

My neighbor across the street took a tumble down the stairs, not bad but very bruised, and she is 65. I went over to make sure she had what ever she needed, I'll go back later. Took Jake bowling, and did some food shopping.

We're off to Margate this weekend as Ian's Mum fell over and broke her knee at the weekend, she's in plaster for the next 6 weeks apparently.

No offense....but I still think it's silly to go back to school before September. When I grew up, we always started sometime in September. Usually it was after Labor Day. The only time I started in Auguest was in 1991 and 1992 (when I was entering 6th and 7th grades, respectively), and that's only because the entire L.A. Unified School District was on a year-round system then.
As a college student, I begin my fall semester the last week of the month; I made my fee payments on Monday. Sometime later this week I will look online for my textbooks, and see if I can buy them used. Last semester I got lucky, since I was able to get all of 'em used.

They have decided to start school here before Labor Day, too, and it is a big farce. They start on a Wednesday then have a long weekend. Nothing much gets done, except drag people home early from vacations.

I don't quite understand starting in August either.
I go back on the 20something'th (I really need to find out) which is kind of retarded, it's like 4 days and then a holiday I think.
Oh well, I suppose the idea is to figure out where all your classes are, ensure you have the right books etc.

The quarter system at most universities starts around when the seasons change. The semester system has to split the same amount of class time into half instead of thirds, so they have to compromise by shifting the start of fall semester to August. The plus side is that semester system allows a much longer winter break.

As a college student, I understand that totally. For the past nine years, I've attended colleges which start the fall semester in the latter part of August so that they have final exams in December a week or two before Christmas, so that in turn, the winter break starts when the semester ends. Makes perfect sense to me.

True, I think I'm done by something like December 15th and don't even have to think about Uni until the 20th of January or something.
Needless to say, I'm buggering off for a month. ;D

Around here school used to start the Wednesday after Labor Day, and go until about June 20 or so. The school year is mandated at 180 days, but the teachers union worked out a neat scheme. It used to be that 5 snow days were added, to allow for school being called for inclement weather. If they weren't used during the school year, it didn't mean much, 5 extra days. Well now if they don't use the snow days they don't work the extra days and move up the last day of school to reflect that. Then, they had it written that 1/2 days would be counted as full days, and there is at least one of those every month. Then they have what the call "Professional Development Days" they aren't mandatory and fall at the oddest times, like the Friday before Thanksgiving. Every Monday is "late start" 9:30. They keep talking of exxtending the school year, but for some reason it seem to be getting shorter.

It should be a good month at Pathmark. This month will make it 4 months that I started Pathmark and I'm feeling great. Now that I've been discharged from my program,I feel like a new man,so rejuvenated and ready to start full time hours.I'll have to talk to my job coach and then in turn,he'll talk to my supervisor which he has a relationship with.

I also ordered my books online yesterday. I only have 8 books this semester and got most of them online at half.com, and got some brand new for a little less than 1/2 price....I got one for $25 (brand new) and the school wanted $45 (used) :o There was only 1 book that I found cheaper at the bookstore and that was only because it's published by the university.

oh man...I'm obsessed with that stuff. I keep 2 bottles of it with me at work...and I use it all the time at home. (from the old thread)
Hubby has a friend whose wife is also obsessive about this stuff....we went to lunch with them and she pulls out her bottle of the stuff and makes all of the kids clean their hands, THEN pulls out a can of Lysol wipes and proceeds to wipe down all of the seats, the table, the silverware, and the glasses (which she made everyone drink out of straws so they didn't actually "touch" the glass....when one of her girls picked up the glass - that she had already wiped down - she made her clean her hands again). I've also seen her pull out the wipes when going into a store and using the wipe to open the door and god forbid her kids touch something like a railing. ::) IMO, that's a little bit overboard....
**interestingly enough, her daughters are ALWAYS sick...probably because they were never exposed to germs growing up so they have no immunity to them**

I got my list of books for the coming semester.. of course, buying them from the University would mean I end up paying around $700 (One is for a Constitutional Law class - New, the book costs about $280) ;D
Now I'll browse Barnes & Noble and Half.com and see if I can come out for under $300.

I figured out that I would've spent about $225 if I bought the equivalents at the bookstore, but I ended up paying about $130 when it was all said and done. I still have to pick up a CD of Chaucer's "The Fugitive's Tale" at the bookstore, but I can do that after school starts.

I wonder if the audiobook is cheaper than the actual book ???
Why does it have to be an audiobook though? Do you have to listen to the symbolism in the narrator's voice? Does he sing medieval karaoke? What gives? :D

Bit of overkill. I've never been obsessed like that, and I'm healthy. I mean, I'll do the handwashing bit after using the toilet and handling raw foods, but other than that...
And I never sanitized Jason or the cart seats at stores and he's healthy.

Never wash my hands unless they're filthy.. I don't think I've ever sanitized anything in my life.. I mix meats and everything, eat food that's way past it's expiration date (although I did have to throw out some milk with solid lumps in it this morning) and I'm the healthiest person I know.

We just got back from our first overnighter on the boat of the season and man, it was exhausting. Yesterday was so hot and humid and NO WIND. I was fine but Carlos was outside in the sun and it really drained him. He didn't even want to cook last night so we just had sandwiches. We did do a little fishing but not even nibbles. Jumped into the lake because I was so hot. Carlos doesn't really like to swim so he just pulled up some water in a bucket and dumped it over himself. Didn't sleep too well last night. serenaded by a bullfrrog and then the wind kicked up. This morning, we had one cup of tea/coffee and then headed home. He already took a shower which I need to do but I am so tired. I'm sure I will feel better after I get out of the shower.
Oh yeah, I finished the latest Harry Potter book. ;D ;D ;D

People over do it. They end up not building up any natural immunities to everday germs. I wash my hands after the bathroom, after digging in the dirt, that kind of stuff. I see people all the time with the hand sanitizers, kinda anal.

But seriously.. I don't get why people freak out about it, the only time I'll wash my hands is when I've been on scaffold, because it's made of aluminum and even I'm smart enough to know that too much of that is bad for you.
That is why I open doors with my feet or a paper towel!

Depends on whom it is. I don't shake hands unless somebody offers, and if they look very dirty, then I will wash my hands afterwards.

lots of handshaking when I'm at church and at work too, some guys see me and are all into greeting with handshakes & I always wash my hands after because too many frikken people have colds and viruses and I'd rather not catch their disease

Got my car fixed yesterday, for the brakes: the rear brakes just needed to be lubricated and adjusted. The little part I cut off on a power steering fluid line and replaced with rubber hose (like the auto parts store recommended) because it was rusted out and leaking was fine they said. I thought I was gonna get out of there just paying 25 bucks... However they said I had a bad wheel bearing which I guess would explain why the car seemed so loud while driving, so I decided to have that replaced, it is a lot smoother and quieter now. The brake pedal is no longer too soft like before, so everything looks good.

Really?
This could be one of those cultural things.. but like.. for instance, I'm going to England for Christmas.. I'll walk in to my local (the pub that one frequents) and will over the following 6 hours shake hands with probably 70 people.
Seriously, you never shake hands with your mates when you catch up with them?

I don't shake hands with anyone, unless I am meeting them for the first time (like a job interview, something of that nature).

You survived.. a major character building experience.
Shopping with women is the modern day equivalent to the rack.
I'll give you a tip.. let your mind leave your body.. just die for a few hours.. your body will probably keep walking and nodding, but your mind is on other things.
I don't shake hands with anyone, unless I am meeting them for the first time (like a job interview, something of that nature).
Where I'm from, women don't shake hands.. or at least they don't when I'm around.. just the way things are.
You shake hands with a bloke, you kiss a woman on the cheek.

I wonder if the audiobook is cheaper than the actual book ???
Why does it have to be an audiobook though? Do you have to listen to the symbolism in the narrator's voice? Does he sing medieval karaoke? What gives? :D
It's in the original Middle English (or whatever) and we have to recite some in class so I'd assume it's so we can get the correct intonation/pronuncation down ;)
You did? Even when you were growing up??
Snow days...that's something we don't have in California.
Yes. It's because of farming. School years were planned originally so the students could help plant/harvest the crops.

How cool! You guys are going to have a blast.
We are having my niece and nephews sleep over tonight and we are taking them to the Hard Rock Cafe. They went to Washington DC with my in-laws about a month ago, and went to the Hard Rock there and just LOVED it. Our entire family is really into the Beatles so they especially loved the Beatles wall. We're hoping to get a table next to it tonight.
My nephew, who is 9 plays the guitar and is REALLY good. His brother, who is 12 recently took it up, and my 7 year old niece is learning the drums. They all did a little performance for us last weekend at my in-laws house and it was fantastic. I am going to go find a picture and post it...

Everyone drives like they're not aware there's any other cars out (even the cops sucked at driving.. it wasn't aggressive driving or anything, either, it was like watching a bunch of retards try to hump a doorknob), there was nowhere to eat except this one disgusting-looking food stand within 5 blocks of where we were.. and then the damn museum didn't even have the stuff they promised in their exhibit. Took the boy to the library and the park (although I had to sit on the bench because my edema was acting up :P). Then we went to Jimmy John's for lunch, got some diapers and milk and stuff to make mango pudding. We also got my dad a little card to brighten his day. Of course, not much can brighten your day or week when the doctor tells you it's too late for back surgery since f**king Workman's Comp. never approved it, CalPers refuses to pay you the money owed, your lawyer won't do a damned lick of work, and then some idiot causes you to t-bone his car because they don't know how to drive. So now my pops is laid up at home in even worse shape, and with no truck, since it was totalled.
Hmmm, reading this back I guess I'm still angry about how my dad is getting completely s**t on by the very people that are supposed to help him.

We also went out for a quick drink with Himself's Mum and Dad which was interesting with his Mum's leg in a full cast! I also caught up with my good friend Kay and her little boy so all round a busy weekend.

Talked to my sister last night to narrow down our plans for this coming weekend. After their visit, we are all going to go down to my mother's for a short visit. (It is so much easier on us when we visit my mother together-long story.) We called my mother (3-way calling) to ask her what she was doing on the 13th. She said that she was getting ready to go someplace on the 18th. :o :o My sister & I just laughed because it takes her that long to get ready for something-and it isn't even at her house. My sister said that it is an "old person thing". She said that her FIL & our grandmother are the same way. It takes them days to get ready for a doctor's appointment. I sent my sister an email this morning to remind her that she only has about 6 days to get ready for our trip. :D :D ;D ;D ;D

sweet! that sounds just like the HP laptop we got Julie to take with her to college. 2GB memory, and 120GB hard drive. it's got power to run everything and lots of storage. good for you. what brand did you get? we just got back from CompUSA getting her a carrying case for her laptop, a lock, and a surge protector. now her and diane are out getting a microwave and yet once again, I'm home alone. Lady Di & I are gonna watch The Bourne Identity on DVD tonight. that's all I have going
Yeah, I bought a HP one as well. I need to set up the wireless network still... hate doing that crap.

cool, we got the HP Pavillion DV6000T and the wireless set up was a pain in my arse because I'd never done it before and had to set up a wireless router first, but we got it and now she's a happy camper. good luck with the set up

Tired, aggravated, and frustrated. The past two days I've been building a wheelchair ramp at my mother's
house. My wife, daughter, son and grandson have been helping. I am not a carpenter so I am building this
on a wing and a prayer, having the help I have is hindering the process. It seems that I am getting nothing
accomplished. Two 12 hour days and all I have up is a 6' X 10' deck, stairs on the side and one section of
ramp. I still have 25' of ramp and a railing for the whole thing still to put up. at this rate it will take me a month
to finish.

I've done a wireless set up before.. and there's basically two things that can happen.. it works perfectly and takes 15 minutes. It's a pain in the ass and takes 2 days.

nothing like a little seaside rendevous :) lot's of family interaction for you this weekend Gis. My family tends to wear me out :-\\
Yeah, I am tired today. ;D Got home to find my elderly neighbour was not happy. Apparently we got to miss out on the polish guys next door having yet another all night party that ended in a screaming brawl in the back garden amazingly enough no police were called this time.

I bet you are tired after all the stuff you guys did this weekend. poor elderly neighbor probably was kept awake all night.
...so Lady Di & I watched the first of the 3 Bourne movies, The Bourne Identity & she really liked it & I'd never seen it in it's entirety. We'll watch The Bourne Supremacy later this week and then maybe Saturday or Sunday go to the cinema to see the new one. now just making some tea, and thinking about bedtime soon.

I have been soooo tired lately. I had a yearly checkup and they say I am fine, but I don't know. I start out fine, but by the afternoon it is all I can do to keep going. I am awake, but haven't any energy at all. :-\\

Have you recently changed your caffeine intake or sleeping patterns? I used to get totally drained like this all the time.. sometimes it's just a thing that has to pass, other times it has to do with how much you're drinking.. I cut out caffeinated soda for a while one time and I felt dead by the end of the day all the time.

At home sorting out what furniture etc is going to be shipped this week, what will go by air next week and what we will pack to take ourselves. It's starting to feel a bit more real now!
We found a house to rent in Glastonbury last week and we are just sorting out the final paperwork to do with that. We hope to move in on September 1st.

What will you do until the 1st? It is nice if you are able to just relax and do the tourist thing, I suggest that if you want a good place for kids and adults, take a trip to Mystic Seaport www.mysticseaport.org/

I think the problem is that I have been eating to much "healthy" I think a sugar/caffeine/high fat buzz would do me a lot of good

You should ask people to call you by a different name... Like Claire.

I am rather frustrated, for I have dropped my Sony Cybershot camera on the floor, and now it ceases to function properly. I'm hoping it can get fixed, because I don't want to think about what my dad would say, seeing as he bought me the expensive thing last Christmas and made it very clear that I should be extra-careful with it.

It says "Turn power off and on again". The only function that works is playback, so at least I have those memories. The first picture I see when I push the playback button is the last one I took:

I had a pretty good day at Pathmark except for 1 thing that happened to me.As I was doing the cart collecting, some pigeons distracted my attention and I didn't see this yellow pole headed towards me and I banged my head right into it,luckily for me,I wasn't bleeding just a small red bump but it seems to be going away slowly.Thank God for a quick healing process.
