Subject: Your Playlist Random Sample

Written By: KKay on 09/07/07 at 4:46 pm

I'm curious to see what you listen to; and the variety of music in your playlist so...if you listen on your cmputer with Itunes or something, all you have to do is sort by 'title' 'description' or 'date added' to mix up your list and then select ten in a row to print here.
Here are ten that i get from the middle of my list when i sort by title:

Orchestre Baobab - El Son De Llama
Orgasm Addict Buzzcocks
Orinoco Mount Everest Trio
Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away) Bee Gees
Our Way to Fall Yo La Tengo
Out Of The Sinking Paul Weller
Over the Hills and Far Away Led Zeppelin
Overkill Colin Hay
Pam Berry The Shins
Paperback Writer The Beatles

Didn't know that one existed lol

That's just plain ridiculous! :D Nobody over here wants to be reminded of that tune. I still don't understand how they managed to reach #30 in Dutch Top 40.

"Let's Talk it Over..." reached #23, BTW. And that's all we've ever heard from Curtie Fortune, Denise van der Hek, Judith Landry and Patricia Balrak.

I will have to d/l that one.  I love European hits that don't make any noise over here
Are/were they a Dutch group?

I have about 2000 songs on my computer on WMP (all listed alphabetically by artist, starting with the band's or the singer's first initial), which I usually put on shuffle. Even though I skip past songs I'm not in the mood for at the moment, everything I have is pretty much my best stuff.

It's obviously way too much to put down, but I have the most "deep stuff" from the '80s and '90s, and casually a bit of oldies and '00s songs.

I use a crappy shareware mp3 player cause Winamp and the popular ones don't seem to like my computer.

Foobar 2000 (no relation, honest!) rocks.  I'd also recommend oldversion.com and trying WinAmp 2.95.  That was the last non-bloated version of WinAmp anyways.

Here's the last 10 tracks I've added to my "heavy rotation" list on my local system.  I've been on a huge mash-up kick lately, either to see the latest pop-tart getting butchered or to breathe some new life into the 80s beats I grew up with.  High-bitrate/quality MP3 downloads of most of the mash-ups can be found with a little creative googling.

Retro/Industrial/Alterna-80s:
A Split Second:  Burn Out (Beat Mix)
Danielle Dax:  Whistling For His Love (which begs to be mashed up with the Split Second track!)

Alternative/2000s:
Chicks on Speed: 99 Cents

Mashups/2000s:
DJ Tripp: We Want Your Gay Dwarf - Soft Cell vs. Adam Freeland vs. Electric Six (Sex Dwarf / We Want Your Soul / Gay Bar)
DJ Andrew: More Dirty Than Human - Christina Aguilera vs. White Zombie (Dirty / More Human Than Human)
Wax Audio: Imagine - George W. Bush vs. John Lennon (Yes, it's "Imagine" done entirely out of snippets of Bush speeches.  So sickeningly wrong that it's genius!)
DJ Gordyboy: Bush Missile F1-11 - Sigue Sigue Sputnik vs. George W. Bush (A solid mix of F1-11, slightly reworked backbeat, and more hilarious samples spliced together from Dear Leader's speeches.)
DJ Zebra: Killing Boombastic - Shaggy vs. Rage Against The Machine - (Boombastic / Killing In The Name Of)
DJ Lance Lockham: M vs. Public Enemy, Ice-T, Beastie Boys - Bring the Muzik Back (Pop Muzik / Bring the Noise / I'm Your Pusher / Shake Your Rump)
Recording Industries Are Archaic: The Joy Of Noise - (Apollo 100's Joy vs. Public Enemy's Bring the Noise... but who knew that Public Enemy could be mixed with a 70s cover of something by  Johann Sebastian Bach?  Arguably, that's a 300-year span in beats -- probably the longest time difference attempted in mixing history.)

Well, nothing wrong with (listening to) Amy Grant... ;) I just wasn't expecting it popping up on your playlist.

I must have some Amy Grant somewhere on cassette...Yeah, that tape could easily be about 20 years old...Some good stuff on there, if I remember. 8)

I have cassettes too, and you're correct in that they are well over 20 years old. Amy Grant & several others were very instrumental in providing inspirational tunes that were more contemporary pop/rock style. I've got some awesome late 70's, early 80's Christian music but my first love, Classic Rock is my favorite but i do enjoy the other stuff immensely.

I've been looking for some really good Goth/Symphonic/Opera Metal for a long time. I've even asked Andy for

I'm not really a goth rocker, but I don't despise the stuff either. I was just surprised to see this act (and not Evanescence) being mentioned.
Now even if I didn't like their stuff, there would no real escaping Within Temptation over here - they're pretty big.

I'm not very familiar with either of those. I know The Gathering had a minor hit with "Strange Machine", but that's about it.

You gave me another band to look for when I'm in the record store.  ;)

Evanescence is the band that started me on my search. I went to allmusic.com and looked up like bands of Evanescence,
I found Lacuna coil. Under like bands of Lacuna Coil was Within Temptation and as soon as I heard Sharon Den Adel's voice
I was hooked, her voice is just so captivating.

I do have 'several' things plastered in various places on my hard drive...

All I'm looking for is someone to give me ten random numbers between 1 and 3000...
I'll choose #13 Paul & I hope it's one I know

Ah! Under the 'C' stack this time...

And it's a father/daughter duet (albeit a 'mock' one)...'Unforgettable' - Natalie & Nat 'King' Cole...nice!  :)

wishing I had kept my mom's LP's.  her playlist would include some old school crooners
Tony Bennet
Nat King Cole
Barbara Streisand
Perry Como
Henry Mancini (orchestra)

Classics all (although Barb and Tony's 'modern day' efforts are a bit of an acquired taste...)

No problem...

Sadly, no crooner this time, but a rock trio with a combined age of 346...

'All For Love' - Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart & Sting

It only just crawled into my list as it's a 90s record...(spit!)

Still, it was on Bryan's 'Greatest Hits' (version 2) so I threw it in!  :D

I can't say I have many 90's songs in my collection, either...

Okay...to go along with a particular song I just heard, how about #2525?  :D

Well, it's not Prince (I haven't got that far yet!  :P), but an equally popular 80s act...

Phil Collins - 'Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)'...which I used to adore when it first came out...not too sure of it now!

that's ok, I'm a fan of all 3. I saw Bryan Adams in concert in San Francisco at the Fillmore. maybe 15 yards away from him. He's a cool performer

I'm going to back it up on a portable hard drive! =D

Now mind you, I don't include these songs on my playlists and I do not put them on my mp3 player, they're just sitting on my computer... looking pretty. But once I back them up, maybe I can just delete them.

I am that way myself. I hang on to stuff mainly because if I make a CD for someone, then I can at least favor somebody elses tastes besides my own. Yet, my tastes are very varied, so I can usually cater to any generation. I've been trying to organize my stuff on Musicmatch and when I do a random shuffle of music and one sticks out as something I just don't find appealing anymore or that it doesn't sit well with the other stuff playing, then I get rid of it now. Before I wasn't like that. But, now I realise I can use that space up for stuff I'll like more in the future by getting rid of stuff I like just passively now.

You know why Adams gets first billing on that song?  They often shortened their name to ASS (Adams / Stewart / Sting) :D

I never liked it no

However though, coz of it's Canadian connection, I am glad it was a hit (just so long as I don't ever have to listen to it LOL)
