Subject: Happy Winter Solstice and Yule

Written By: bookmistress4ever on 12/21/07 at 9:34 pm

Today is the official first day of Winter and I think the Pagan holiday called Yule.

My best to our Wiccan members on this day.

Oddly enough, all the snow is melted here on the first day of Winter.  Go figure.

Thanks, Good Yule to you as well.

Yule/Solstice is celebrated by a lot of people, not just Wiccans. I'm not a Wiccan, I have no religion, but I observe Yule as a special day in Northern European culture and folklore.

The longest day here!  8)

Summer began on the first of the month for us, so today is just the solstice. And night time doesn't start get darker until mid-January, although mornings have started getting darker already.

And what lovely weather for the longest day too.

Ah, December 21st, the shortest day of the year. From here it's all downhill, at least until June 21st...

I'm happy that there will be more than 8 hours of usuable light a day now... about 2 minutes more a day.
