Subject: Music you like.

Written By: adagio on 01/21/08 at 1:57 pm

This could be any type of music.

As in classical for me....tocatta and fugue in D- by Bach and the 'little foot', Faure "Requiem" and the Rutter "Requiem" and also rock, like the Moody Blues. ELO, Sheryl Crow, 3 dog night,  King Crimson, Enya, etc.

What type do you like?

Subject: Re: Music you like.

Written By: Philip Eno on 01/21/08 at 2:09 pm

Simply putting it Beethoven.

...but if the music is pleasant to the ear, I like it. That includes Enya and main stream pop.

I love music!  8)

Some of my favorite genres are soft-rock (e.g. Bread, James Taylor), folk-rock (e.g. Crosby, Stills & Nash), country-rock (e.g. The Eagles, Doobie Brothers), hard-rock (e.g. Def Leppard, The Scorpions), new wave (e.g. ABC, Ultravox) and soul (e.g. The Stylistics, The Spinners)...

There's just so much good music...but I draw the line at the 'modern' stuff that's out now!  :P

Hawk's List Of Music He Likes:

Classical- I love Rossini, Vivaldi, and Saint Saens. I also enjoy Mussorgsky's "Night On Bald Mountain".

Jazz- My preferred is Wynton Marsalis. However, I also like Thelonius Monk, and early Weather Report.

Ska- I like Bad Manners, Madness & Oingo Boingo.

Rock- I'm an '80s buff. Not too much I don't like.....except maybe for ol' MJ.

Pop- I like Euro-Pop, particularly Scandinavian: Stakka Bo, Ace Of Base, and Oscar.

Country- I don't care much for country, since I was raised around it, but I do like John Anderson.

Comedy- Anything by Rodney Dangerfield, Ray Stevens, or stuff on Dr. Demento.

Medieval/Renaissance- I find I enjoy the style of the French Troubadour, and Gregorian Chant.

Easy Listening- Hands down: Christopher Cross and Rupert Holmes.

Rap- If it goes past 1984, I don't care too much for it.

Alternative/Progressive/Industrial- Kasabian, Peter Gabriel, and Henry Rollins (Black Flag days).

Hard Rock/Metal- Ozzy, Krokus, Spinal Tap, and just a touch of Pantera.

I like a little bit of everything: Classical, Opera, Big Band, the heyday of Rock and Roll, Motown R&B, Classic Rock, Reggae, 80s, and so on and so on. I've got a lot of Oldies (50s, 60s, 70s) R&B on my iPod though, so I guess I'm more concentrated in that area.

Some MB is OK, but "Nights In White Satin" kinda grates after a bit.
It's a song I must take in spaced doses.

Kinda like how most people feel about The Tubes's "Mondo Bondage".

I used to have a tape of "Chant", some years ago.
I rather found it relaxing.

Now, Benedictine Chant, on the other hand....THERE'S a rarity!

I've written lots of parodies using their songs.  That's what I was doing when I could have been over here building up scores and knowing people.

Ah well...it was SOME form of music.

Of these three, I like "Never Let Me Down Again" best. Maybe that's because I like the whole "Music For The Masses" album best. :)

I like just about everything.  Sure I have favorites, but there is something to be said in every genre.  I don't like Kokopelli though, kokopelli makes me very uneasy.

This from Wiki, though I don't think I am Hopi there seems to be an inborn, intuitive reason for this

Among the Hopi, Kokopelli carries unborn children on his back and distributes them to women (for this reason, young girls often fear him). I know, I know, I am long past young, but still....

Well, music is one of the biggest things I tend to talk about and analyze on here 'cause I've always liked it so much. But for the people that haven't always read my posts and/or just want a quicker answer...

I tend to like mainstream pop, rock and ballads. My favorite years are about 1981 to 1994 or maybe up to the late '90s...although I honestly like a little of everything. The late '60s are pretty good too, especially the Beatles and Motown music. For modern stuff, it's usually just selected mainstreamized rock like Maroon 5 or the Killers.

The Eighties music I like could probably be split into a few subcategories as well (since that's my absolute favorite era):

-Midtempo stuff and ballads (i.e. Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, Cyndi Lauper, Hall and Oates,  Chicago, Jackson Browne)
-Arena-style rock (i.e. Huey Lewis, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Starship, Bruce Springsteen)
-Clean cut dance songs/upbeat music (i.e. Tears For Fears, selected Prince, Paula Abdul, The Police)

Of course I have to throw in Weird Al too.

Most of my musical preferences fall under anything dance-able from the 70's to current and into different categories:

Funk (George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic, EWF, Brick, James Brown etc.)
New Wave/Synth (Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure etc.)
Disco (Sylvester, Patrick Cowley, Chic)
R&B (Keith Sweat, Rene & Angela, Yarbrough & Peoples)
Rap & Hip-Hop (Old School more than new stuff but I like some of the current stuff)
House (Crystal Waters, Todd Terry, Club 69/Peter Rauhofer)
Industrial/New Beat (Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Nine Inch Nails, Cabaret Voltaire, Meat Beat Manifesto etc.)
Old Skool Techno (early Moby, Joey Beltram, Shamen, Mickey Finn, SL2, Prodigy, Lords of Acid, 4 Hero/Manix)
Trance (Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Oceanlab, 4 Strings, Lasgo)
Drum & Bass (Roni Size, Kosheen)
Other Electronica (DJ Icey, Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Ferry Corsten, Benny Benassi, Norman Cook/Fatboy Slim etc)

I also like 70's & 80's rock as well as some 90's rock & alternative and pop music from the past 30 years or so.
