Subject: A simple question as deep as the ocean.

Written By: Spirit of 76 on 03/11/08 at 1:45 am

I heard an interesting and open question as I engineered a radio program this morning. It can be as simple or complex, light or deep, as you want the answer to be. Some people might automatically know what I'm talking about, while other's might not have a clue. You may imediately know the answer or it might take a lifetime to figure out. To quote the song:

Who are you?

Such a fascinating question deserves a spirited attempt of an answer!

I am Wayne- husband, father, musician, epicurean, modern-day bard.
I am a loyal friend to some, and a hated enemy to others.
I am an '80s rock buff, an amateur historian w/ leanings to the Dark Ages & the Age of the Vikings.
I am a man who isn't generally given as much credit as I deserve, but I can laugh it off.
I am a fan of obscure rock groups, Greek food, British comedy & Emo Phillips, and 1968 Cobras.
I am a depressed, slightly off-kiltered man who just tries to get through the day.

And yes, I am a loyal member of the "In the '00s"- no matter what else is said about me.

Take it or leave it as you would- I have become comfortably numb.

The question instantly puts a song in my head. Lets see... who sang it?  no no no no  don't tell me cause I know

I'm an Idiot ( meaning fool around goofy stuff )
I'm a self thinking person and find both good and bad in many things

What would people think if they find out I'm a Jesus Freak? I have no idea how young I was when I first talked to God in hopes something would give me the love I lacked.  I'm still here and very loyal to my God. You can think whatever you want about this and I think you should continue to do whatever you think is right for yourself.

Who am I?  I don't even know.  I've kinda gotten lost over the past few years and there is no real light to the end of the tunnel coming anytime soon (or at least it's not planned anyways).

I am a loving wife, daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, friend.
I am a prude, but like to flirt (if that makes any sense).
I am open-minded, thrifty, a procrastinator, and uncertain of anything I do.
I am a diabetic, have hearing in one ear only, and am really really tired.  ;D
I'm a bit of a lunatic, but serious at the same time.  I guess that makes me a paradox.
I'm a glutton, and lazy, but am on a constant diet and have worked hard before and will again.
I'm a lover of all things 80s (well I should clarify 1980s) and it was the last time I felt confident and knew who I was for sure.
I am a video game/pinball machine addict.
I love cheese.  lol
I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam.

I am so many things that I don't even know what I am capable of until I try.

Good question.

Pretty much all I can say right now is I wish I could hear a little better.  At least I can see it for now.  Sound is distorted so it's either the ear not receiving or the brain not organizing the info.  Because I can still sing and stuff like that, I think I have some bad receivers.

Cool question.

Well on the surface, I'm a Liberal feminist from California who likes thrift stores (and most shopping), '80s music, and just generally conversing with people and being analytical about everything! I also have a passion for writing and acting/stage performing, and would like to get at least loosely into that field someday if I can. Maybe most importantly of all though, is that I now know for the first time in my life what it feels like to really have unconditional compassion, respect and love for someone who's not a relative. That's the greatest feeling in the world.

A 31 year old single male and a big fan of Nirvana, anime, Dragon Quest and catgirls/animal girls(which practically everyone on this board knows).

I currently work in retail and am also a parody author on amiright(I haven't submitted anything lately... have plenty of ideas, but haven't gotten to finishing them).

In general I'm just a intelligent, if airheaded guy who can be very shy... I can, however, be very confident at times too.

I love creating RPG ideas, playing guitar, video games and looking through anime image boards for anything I might like.

Who am I?

Sometimes I still don't even know myself.  I am a very unique 31 year old female, but I don't really feel a day over like 18 or so. I still feel like a kid at heart, even though I can put on the "grownup face" when needed.  I find myself feeling different from most people in life..and that used to really bother me, and it still does sometimes...however, I am slowly learning how to be happy in my own skin and with my own "quirky" self.  I am an introvert and an extrovert all wrapped up in one. Sometimes I can be so outgoing and silly, yet on the otherhand, I can be so extremely withdrawn.

I am very much obsessed with the past. My past, other people's pasts, memorabilia of the past....just everything. If I could transport myself back...I would take Vaughn with me and go back...in a heartbeat.  Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with the fact that the past is over...that I actually get depressed over it.

I take things very seriously, and I am very sensitive. I am not a touchy/feel kind of person. I like my own space. If I like you..I will let you touch me...if not, then you better stay out of my space. ;)

I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up...even though I am in the midst of being grown.  I love so many things, I simply find it nearly impossible to narrow it down.

I love to write, I love to read...I love to learn. If I could be a professional student the rest of my life...I would. I love to take pictures, but I'm not that great at it. My sister Beth is much better than I am.

I have discovered recently that the love of my life....is my almost 6 year old nephew. He is the most important person in my life...and I would do anything for him.  He has made such an impact on my life....I didn't birth him...he birthed me...into a completely different person. I have never in my life had someone that totally depended on me to mold them into what they will become in life...and the thought of that makes me proud. If all else fails in this world, to know that I made a positive impact on a very special child....then that is all that I need to make me know that I have fulfilled something important. :)

Over the past 6 months or so..I have changed. I have gone through a lot of emotional issues in my life...but I truly believe that I have become a better person throughout all of it. I have come to the realization that beauty can come from ashes, because that is what is happening in my life. I have learned how to forgive, how to love my family even more than I ever have, how to overcome adversity. I have made new friends, found out that there ARE people that truly care about me. I have become stronger (physically, mentally, and emotionally). No, I am not perfect, nor will I ever be...but I can honestly say that I am getting better...each and everyday.

I am whatever you make me out to be.

Yes? Yes.

Any pretense you have does not make me pretentious, it just makes you presumptuous.

I love so many things, I simply find it nearly impossible to narrow it dow

I guess this simple question is one that cannot be answered with a simple answer. :D

Thanks for that great post Quirk!  :)

Well there's this new role that just opened up that might be perfect for you. There's this wickedly sarcastic girl whom the main character meets at a pop culture discussion forum.  :)

Step-Chan

I'm assuming you're born in either 1976 of 1977? There's a lot of us here at this forum!

I assume she's sitting propped up in bed, typing on a laptop while King of the Hill is playing and is surrounded by empty Mountain Dew cans.... hmmmm sounds nothing like me!  ;)

Who am I?
Can I condemn this man to slavery
Pretend I do not feel his agony
This innocent who bears my face
Who goes to judgement in my place
Who am I?
Can I conceal myself for evermore?
Pretend I'm not the man I was before?
And must my name until I die
Be no more than an alibi?
Must I lie?
How can I ever face my fellow men?
How can I ever face myself again?
My soul belongs to God, I know
I made that bargain long ago
He gave me hope when hope was gone
He gave me strength to journey on

Who am I? Who am I?
I am Jean Valjean!

And so Javert, you see it's true
That man bears no more guilt than you!
Who am I?

You know, I can tell you I've become alot different in the last six months myself, just from getting to know you so well. Not only have I shared in your positive experiences and knowing your fun, bright and giving personality, but maybe what's even more important is I know now what it's like to have such genuine compassion for someone who's not related to me, partially by sharing in your concerns and hardships and knowing I'd do anything I humanly could to comfort you and just make sure everything was going okay.

Think about it, any relationship that's not a family member or your parents, is something that's not unconditional love like they are. It has to be earned by how you act or treat them and the stuff you do. Well you've certainly earned that from me without even trying. I care about you not because of anything you've done, but just because you are. No matter what happens down the road (and my gosh it could be anything knowing how things have progressed up to now!), I'll always be there for you to help you in whatever way I can, just because it's what's inside my heart to do.

At the crux of the issue though, the 97% of time where it's been positive between us is something that's made me feel on top of the world. Just the fact that someone cares about me and in turn lets me care about them and makes feel comfortable enough to share anything makes you feel so special inside. And you know, the 3% of the time we have a difference of opinion or have a disagreement, I think that's made me become a stronger, more understanding and loving person myself just out of knowing everything about you in the kind of detail I've never had with anyone else. Including making mistakes along the way and learning from them.

I know sometimes you might feel like you haven't done certain things that you wish to do (and I want you to be able to fulfill them too, since its your dreams), but like you said, you're shaping Vaughn's life, again not because you have to, but because you wanted to. That's commendable right there. And as for me, you've made me feel valued and loved like I never imagined anyone ever would. To the point that I'd do anything possible for you and it makes me want to really make something of myself more than ever before.

You couldn't possibly give anyone a better gift in life than that. :)
