How close are we to having Personal Jet Packs?

How about a "Politician Filter"- which filters out the B.S. and translates their jargon in to Layman's Terms?

How close are we to having Personal Jet Packs?

Short extracts:

Wiki:

The main faults of this type of rocket pack are:

    * Short duration of flight (to 30 seconds).
    * The reasonably high expense of the peroxide propellant.
    * The danger of flying below minimum parachute altitude, and hence without any safety equipment.
    * The sheer difficulty of manually flying such a device.

Current technology

According to the USA Government, real jetpacks have little practical value due to the limitations of current technology. The United States military, which conducted most jet pack research, has declared that helicopters are far more practical. Many others have worked on devising a functional jet pack, but with limited success.

As depicted in Episode 32 of MythBusters, according to an urban legend, a jetpack or rocketpack may be affordably built from plans purchased off the Internet. The jetpack produced by the MythBusters, where two ducted fans were powered by a Rotax 583 ultralight engine, was not powerful enough to lift a person off the ground, and was expensive to build.

Even if an operational rocket pack could be built, as is the case with the Rocketpack recently constructed by the USA's only "private rocketeer" Gerard Martowlis; flying a pack is both extraordinarily difficult and extremely dangerous. Like all previous Rocket Belt pilots his recent tests of the belt are performed with the use of a Safety Tether System to prevent injury due to loss of control. It takes many, many hours of practice to learn to fly the pack and this training carries a high cost in propellant. Even when trained, the low flight time of any peroxide-based pack means that the entire flight is below the minimum parachute altitude so any loss of control or failure of the pack is highly likely to be fatal.

a time machine

an invisibility suit

something like an Ipod that is just for movies, that hooks up to your TV...it has crazy amounts of memory to store thousands and thousands of movies...therefore elimating the need for DVD's... and it would be ideal if you could either download the movies or transfer them from VHS or DVD to the machine.

I want a large spike/lever type device on the front of my car that will skewer any annoying vehicle in front of me and then flick/catapult it over the back of my vehicle (of course, carefully landing it so as not to inconvenience any others).

...and the Control-a woman device could still work with the TV as you could make her change the channels for you ... (of course, these are not necesarily the true thoughts of this writer).

There, that should save me....

Bur, imagining is half the fun, I think?

Know that remote?  I don't do photoshop at all, so you women will have to imagine it.

A button for pick up clothes, clean your mess, shut up, turn off sports games (unless the woman likes them too), bring flowers, cook romantic dinners with candles and all, and a button to make the guy go to sleep if we're not in the mood......but, if we are in the mood...full fledged, romantic evenings ending in ...you get the picture.

That's a song I care for a lot. Made it to #2 in the UK ... back in 1970 .... for Clarence Carter. Written by a member of Chairmen of the Board, who had hits in their own right. I actually shook hands with them (1972)  from the dance floor, whilst they were still on stage (was right up close to it).

The 'event' had actually occurred in early 1968 (2 years before the song ... but I WAS 13 then). I was EXTREMELY depressed for around 18 months ? Songs like the Walker Brother's 'The Sun ain't gonna shine any more' .... summed up my general mood of the time.
