I'm not familiar with all of the songs on your list but where I do know both songs in a pair a can't say that I see any similarity at all.  Perhaps you could tell me how you think they sound the same.  For example The Police Everything Little Thing She Does Is Magic and A-Ha Take On Me

Jet - What Have You Done?
The Beatles - Sexy Sadie

You kinda need to know the Beatles a bit more than just their most well known tracks, but it's clearly obvious that the first song was inspired by the second. Even the lyrics are similar:

JET
Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone

BEATLES
Sexy Sadie what have you done
You made a fool of everyone

And another new Aussie rock band, Airbourne sounds very similar to another Aussie band, AC/DC. If you like AC/DC I'd suggest checking them out.

Howdy Karen,
Yeah, if you get time, check out the other bands and their song similarites, you'll find a lot have the melody, lyrics, solos, etc that are so close, you would think they we're the same song. And I'm not talking about COVERS, I'm talking about such close similarites, likes, like Luke speaks of, however about the Police and A-ha song:

comparing them both on a wav editor, they have virtually the same melody as the songs get going. True, the police are using a more Reggae beat, however as the A-ha melody progresses with their off beat drum pattern it starts to mesh with the Police song. Plus, the way they Stop to nothing then start again, is almost identical at the SAME place in both songs, it's bizarre, you could almost over lay the songs and hear the similarities, they are fine, but they are there.

About 1:40 into both songs, you'll hear in the Police's song, there are those Steel drums playing a melody in the way background... It's IDENTICAL pattern to the A-ha's synth section... listen carefully, it's the SAME exact notes. =o)

How about these two sounding similar?

Sweat (A La La La La Long) ~ Inner Circle (1992)
Mysterious Girl ~ Peter Andre (1996)

...these are deadringers!

Well... lots of songs sound alike in terms of samples (like Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" sampled in Will Smith's "Men In Black"), but there's too many of those...and I don't think that's what he's looking for here.

One song that came out a couple years after this topic was originally started: "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5, from 2004...the chorus of that song sounds just like the bridge of Cheap Trick's 1988 hit "The Flame."

I don't know the second song, but I do know that the phrase "invisible man" is mentioned in the first song. I always thought that the first song sounded similar to Huey Lewis' "I Want A New Drug."
