Why does this have so many replies? It's not that funny.

Why does it matter?  If you don't like it, then don't post in it

I think it is more annoying to create a thread talking about how much you hate another one, ya know? ;)  I agree..if you don't like it..then stay away.

It refers to Mc Hammer's style of dress and Reel 2 Reel's "I Like To Move It".

"Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it, look what it's done so far."
  - Kermit the Frog, The Rainbow Connection

Which doesn't really explain much, does it?  But that's sort how memes work.

The Hammer/Paths thread is a local meme/running gag, sorta like All Your Base or Lolcats, and it's so local (as far as I know, it's specific to this message board and nowhere else) that even I (who signed up years ago) never really got into it... but as an armchair memeticist, I do admire it.  It's intriguing in that (to the best of my knowledge) it's never made it outside this board, but it's simmered here for years.

I'm actually rather curious myself...  I "get" the two things that are being referred to, but can some of the real old-timers on the board enclue me as to how the two concepts got mashed up together, and how it got started?

Let's give 'em the benefit of the doubt and believe that it is just a curious question.....Probably should have just asked the question in the actual MC Hammer thread though!

I can suck the life out almost any mystery the board has, so here goes...

One of the common things people like to do, is check the "Who's Online" list to see if people are online, or what they are doing.  For some reason, a thread about MC Hammer pants in the now discontinued "wanted/selling board" used to get a lot of search engine traffic (back before I banned search engines from indexing the regular board, I limit it now to the archives).  I imagine a lot of people were looking for them for Halloween parties or 80s parties.  So after awhile, the trend of spotting a guest looking at the thread got made of fun in a nonsense thread.

I think it made mention of some of the other popular topics that seemed to attract a lot of search engine visitors too.  It was a half-hearted attempt to make a topic that was "super-appealing" to the unknown guests so they might be tempted into saying hello.

The same occured with guests viewing an old now discontinued theard on the tv programmes on Nickelodeon, at one time it had the highest Post/Viewing ratio.

Yes, that was how the "I like to move it in MC hammers pants" thread came about. Two years ago, someone made a thread combining all the thread titles that got a lot of search-engine traffic, and wondered how long it would be before a guest viewed THAT thread. It was killed off in June 2006, only to get restarted a week later. These days, there are still some threads that get viewed profusely by guests, such as:

Nib Oswald
2nz Second Performance on January 12th
Old School Nickelodoeon
(...and a few others)
