Subject: Waterfalls in New York City?

Written By: bookmistress4ever on 06/21/08 at 9:42 pm

When thinking of great waterfalls of the world, New York City doesn't necessarily come first to my mind, but this new art project by Olafur Eliasson might change my mind.  It looks kinda pretty.

He will create 4 free-standing waterfalls, one from off of the Brooklyn Bridge.  Apparently the water gets turned on this Thursday.

He's had some interesting other projects too:

Apparently it doesn't get the water turned on until tomorrow (Thursday) June 26th.

If you click on that above link and then on the box that is purple that says New York City (arrow) waterfalls, it'll have some pictures of it.  I don't know how they got the pictures since it's not turned on yet.  I guess maybe a test run of the exhibit or something.  Then there are other pictures (click on the smaller pictures to the right of the big picture (you might not notice them as they are very faint colored...)

Since I won't be going to New York anytime soon, I won't be seeing the exhibit myself, I just thought it was neat, and I wanted to show some of the other art projects that that artist had done (namely the one at the Tate Museum in London).

I wonder if the ice pavillion would make a person think it's cooler, even though its a hot day but wait a minute. it is real ice as i see melted water underneath.  :o

Yeah that was an exhibit in Iceland, I don't know if it was winter, but I think it's usually cold there.  :)

So here are so youtube videos of the exhibit, which is probably the only way I'll get to see it.

Very Cool!  I clicked on several videos of the NY Waterfalls and it looks much better in the evening.

Of course, Mother nature can never be outdone.

last sunday i was driving back from the hamptons and of course, the waterfalls were stopping the traffic.  it was pretty cool.  i appreciate that the money for the project was privately raised...not city money in that...
but it is a refresing display in the harbor...pretty.
